I stayed here earlier in the year when I was visiting Sydney and although there are a few hostel choices in the CBD this has got to the the best hostel I have ever stayed in, and like many others who have reviewed this hostel comment, I have stayed in many hostels around the world. You are a short walk away from incredible views of the harbour bridge and opera house and the heart of the CBD. It is easy to get to from the airport just get off the train at circular quay station which is only a short walk away. Of course the short walk can feel like a marathon if your backpack is heavy and you are jet lagged! Needless to say once unburdened by luggage the YHA is easy walking distance to the transport hub of circular quay, train, bus or ferry. The hostel itself is built over an archeological dig of The Rocks with some information boards detailing the history of The Rocks area which is something different and interesting. The staff at the front desk were some of the friendliest YHA staff I have come across and this is the same level as the kitchen and dining area. Such a large and well kept kitchen. Indoor seating or under cover outdoor for those wanting some fresh air and a view. The breakfast is reasonably priced but very filling and I got much more than I expected for my buck. The rooms are large with plenty of space for all in the four person dorm I stayed in. Most impressed with the sheer space afforded to the ensuite compared to some of the airplane sized dorm ensuite I have seen in other hostels. And hot water too!!! There is a storage locker for each person, bring you own lock, that are big enough to handle a proper backpack without it needing to be cut in half and then half again just to fit inside. Each bunk has a light and power plug, handy if you want to read up on he lonely planet without keeping others in the dorm up. There is a TV room and wifi. Wifi you pay for but reliable enough. The view from the roof top terrace is utterly amazing, looking straight out to the opera house provided one of those massive cruise ships is not docked at circular quay! A lovely place to stay in the heart of Sydney

This is no ordinary backpackers! It's easy to see why it has received many awards and has a great reputation. For starters, there's its prime location in the historic Rocks area, very close to Circular Quay, the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, etc. Very handy for the BridgeClimb - just a few minutes away on the same street. A huge bonus is the hostel's rooftop terrace which has spectacular views over all of this, a real treat. Like many YHA hostels, the building has a quirky aspect to its character - the modern building has been constructed around an archaeological site. I didn't have time to visit the on-site Big Dig centre or take part in the activities but it was pretty interesting just to observe the site beneath the walkways and display of artefacts in the entrance. Inside, the hostel is modern and clean and of an excellent standard. Our room itself was great. We had booked a double room with ensuite shower and WC. The room was a reasonable size and was more like hotel accommodation than a backpackers. Tea/coffee making supplies and towels were also provided. The large kitchen, dining and social space areas are light and airy and located on the same floor as reception (1st floor), and there's a café counter to the side of the reception area. If you fancy dining al fresco there's a balcony with tables and chairs or you can take the lift up to the roof terrace. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There are a number of items you can borrow for a deposit from reception like hair straighteners, etc. One thing to bear in mind is that the hostel is located atop a hill. On the map it didn't look like much of a walk from Circular Quay but it felt like a fair old hike carrying our bags up sloping pavements and flights of stairs. It did cost more than our central Sydney hostel stays but for private ensuite accommodation in such a well-equipped and high standard of hostel in an excellent area and with panoramic rooftop views over world famous Sydney harbour and its landmarks it is absolutely value for money!

This hostel is really amazing! Located in "the Rocks" neighborhood, (the nicest place in Sydney), The hostel is clean, the service is incredible, from the upper deck you can see the Opera house. The facilties are very confortable. The price is not the best value, and if you are interested try to book in advance.

location. the rocks. couldn't be better and the view from the rooftop-terrace is stunning. I don't know how they got the place but it's AWESOME! rooms/facilities. brand new. shiny. the most clean hostel I've seen in Australia worldwide only toped by Mountain Hostel Laax Switzerland. rates. reasonably low. it's still a yha :o) service. also a hostel has some kind of service but yha-like this one is forthcoming and friednly as we know it. So if you're looking for a good accommodation in Sydney this is your place. You'll find it right here.

Private room, third floor…read more Pros: Nice people, good location. Wifi is good. Lots of sponsored and structured activities. Clean. Safe. Cons: No air conditioning in the rooms, only central. No way to make the room dark or open the windows. Bed is horribly uncomfortable. Not enough power outlets. Showers suck, you have to make out with the wall to get under the spray. I did not enjoy it but it was bearable. A good place if you're looking to get laid, save money, or what to share with some very close friends. The beds were awful, and having no in-room air con puts this on the no list for me, but others may find it perfectly suitable.

Men & Women bathrooms, along with laundry room, on each floor. A bit noisy, with doors closing loudly and the window from outside (as it really is super central Sydney), so maybe some updated noise cancelling in those areas. They do at least offer free ear plugs as requested. Attached bar for dinner and drinks / fun, and cafe for breakfast / lunch. They sell the basics if you forget - locks, adaptors, etc so that is a perk! Vending machines downstairs just in case. I never felt dirty anywhere. Friendly front desk and a few of the items listed on website and brochure they don't have currently but they do offer some cool free activities - yay city guide walking tour! Pretty fairly priced for location / accommodation. I spent about $150 USD for the 4 nights (with a breakfast voucher included - hot drink & a toastie). I would've spent that on 1 night in a hotel. You give up a little privacy and you save some money. I'd stay here again.

Pretty clean too. Shared bathrooms, of course, it is a back packers, but really cool place. Bathrooms were ok. I did have to change showers because one shower refused to give me any hot water, but the next one was fine. You can go up on the roof and have a barbeque, and get the big city Spiderman feeling, or go out onto the street into the Big Smoke and be surrounded by shops and cinemas and the like. Event Cinemas across the road had a premier the night I was there, and I'm pretty sure Hugh Jackman was in attendance. Staff were cool too, and the room was as dark and sealed off as a bats cave, so I was cut off from the world. Good for hangovers. If you want cheaper than a motel room, and most of you will, as it's a back packers, then you can share with others for a better price - I paid extra to get a room with only two beds. The mystery was that there were signs in my room saying no drinking, which left me asking, why did I come? It's a back packers!! But then, maybe all back packers have those signs as a precaution, and we don't necessarily have to follow it.

Free breakfast was simple and the eating and tv spaces were spacious and pretty nice. Bathrooms and showers were individual, so it's nice not to have a dorm style bathroom and they were typically clean. As a female, I would maybe stay in a female dorm next time to try to help with the smell of the room, but other than that, it was a nice stay!

It's located in a very good location next to train stations and (30 min) walking distance to a lot of the attractions in the northern part of Sydney. The staff are extremely friendly and offer up some great advice on where to go and the best method of getting there. There is an open kitchen and lounge area with wifi where you can cook up a meal and meet other travelers around town. The dorms themselves are a bit aged, but they get the job done. I opted to stay in an 8-person dorm which looked like they had some longer-term guests hanging around. Shared bathrooms were okay too- make sure you bring your own towel and toiletries because this is a no frills hostel. Overall, good place to stay, but don't expect too much else. They do offer a A$15 shuttle to the airport at whatever time you want, so take advantage as it'll end up being more expensive if you take the train or taxi yourself.

Honestly, we were both a little nervous at first since this was our first experience staying in a hostel but any fears were immediately put to rest upon check-in here. From the moment you step inside you can feel the sense of family here. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming! It was a great relief to us. We chose the 10-bed room and were completely satisfied. Of course this is a hostel so the accommodations were very basic but the bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean enough, and everyone was friendly. No issues with bad roommates here! Free Wi-Fi is a perk worth mentioning, though the use was cut-short at times due to their contract for a limited amount of data use daily. One of the main reasons we chose this hostel was the location. Potts Point is a fantastic neighborhood filled with open cafes, shops, and business people during the day while at night the neighborhood turned into more of an edgy bar district. Lots of fun within a few blocks of the hostel but walking into the more central part of Sydney wasn't bad either.
