You may be a uni student and strapped for cash, so you turn to two minute noodles and eat like crap…read morefor three years, but maybe you set aside that one day where you think you will treat yourself to a uni lunch. Realfoods offers a super healthy and affordable alternative to the other cafes around campus. I often look at the other cafes and feel a bit ill, gazing at the amount of oil some of their pasta dishes offer :( A cafe with vegan and vegetarian options founded by the university union, RUSU, this place is actually pretty good. It is run by volunteers which is surprising because the food and coffee is of a high quality unlike some other places which are volunteer run and the staff are just learning the ropes. The food at realfoods is delicious, and my regular favourite is whatever they have on the stove tops. Usually a flavour filled quinoa and Dahl of some kind. They also offer an assortment of wraps and salad options. As I mentioned the coffee here is great and they also offer interesting concoctions such as a tumeric latte - not a popular choice among my friends haha All in all, I recommend this place if you are on campus and looking for a healthy lunch with friendly service :) It can get quite busy during peak times but well worth it. You also have the option to join the Facebook group and gain some sort of discount with every purchase.

This is so far from an accurate description of Cornerstone, you probably won't believe the following paragraphs. But as over the top and neurotic as it sounds, it's all true! I go to Cornerstone and have been there many times as my boyfriend lives walking distance away, I even added them to Yelp so I could share their greatness with the community, because I had this unreasonable fear that they were in an unusual location and they were at risk of being unnoticed so I had to help get people in so I could keep going there! I've had many things on the menu, some pictured, some not. All perfection- honestly- and I've looked high and low for the most minuscule faults. I've had poached eggs in countless different dishes and I am yet to encounter a yolk that isn't gooey and oozing with salty, buttery goodness that only an immaculately cooked egg yolk can provide. The side salads they put on your plate, suit the meal you are eating and are creative and perfectly dressed, rather than your cafe style 'green salad' that breaks down your soul with the lack of effort put in to it knowing you paid $22 for a plate you could have made at home. Did I mention I'm in love with Cornerstone?! For meals between $10-$25, you're bound to find something to satisfy you. Deserts are very reasonably priced too. If Cornerstone was open for dinner, I wouldn't go anywhere else. They have a set menu with Italian/modern Australian/Asian fusion dishes and weekly specials that will blow your mind. They use Organic coffee. BonSoy. Their bread from an organic bakery. Their vegan and vegetarian options are plentiful plus their desert cabinet is always full of fresh, new and exciting options that tempt you into submission! The staff are attentive, knowledgable and quick, plus friendly! The owner- Michelle- is an absolute delight, I could just sing their praises day and night. Cornerstone is a fantastic addition to Hampton, Melbourne and in my opinion anyone not up to that standard is officially failing. Next time you're in or around Hampton, try out Cornerstone, there is no possible way this impressive establishment will let you down!

Traumatised by the ominous yellow glow emitting from Veg Out's Bain-marie, I had avoided this venue…read moreuntil a few weeks ago, often opting for the consistent burritos next door or the occasional heart stopping burger on the other side. I'm glad I overcame my terror and ordered one of their wonderful made-to-order tofu and vegetable dishes with brown rice. I'm a big fan of their curries with brown rice. Portion sizes are so large I generally manage to get tomorrow's lunch out of it as well. They will gladly give you a take away container with a bag and extra rice if you ask. The staff are always extremely friendly. My favourite meals are the fresh roti with satay sauce (made to order) and the yellow curry with ginger veggies from the Bain-Marie. All their curries are packed full of flavour with big chunks of veggies or tofu. There's a sister store in st kilda also, however they have a different name. From what I can gather though it's the exact same recipes. All meals are either vegan or vegetarian (marked on the board and window) and many are gluten free.

I went in there to get a toasted sandwich for lunch and ordered a chicken and avocado. I was waiting for 10 min for this sandwich and I watched the chefs. They slapped on "some" avocado and "some" chicken and that's it, no cheese no nothing. Over cooked it, slapped on some butter, shoved it in a bag and threw it near the counter. Then I had to wait until the girls found it to give me said sandwich. And what I paid for this service? $11...for a toastie...$8 I understand because chicken is expensive but $11? I never complain but seriously, this isn't the time of age to be like that.

From the same talented group who created The Kettle Black, you can expect some magical looking brunch at Top Paddock! But first getting here was quite tricky. It involves some navigating unfamiliar streets, as the venue is kinda off the grid. The experience, however, was certainly worth the effort to get here. Upon walking in, I was instantly in love with the Interior - it was a spacious dining area with sunlit windows and green surroundings - the kind of cafe that offers you a little piece of solitude. Top Paddock most iconic menu is their Blueberry and Ricotta Hotcake. It is a beautifully plated thick hotcake infused generously in maple syrup, topped with fresh fruits, seeds, cream and garnished with eye-popping edible flowers - It was nothing less than scrumptious! Portion wise it was ginormous and easily last me through my next meal. For my coffee, I ordered their flat white; it was gentle tasting and smooth. I could drink this all day! Short to say, Top Paddock does not disappoint in any way. From the gorgeous food to inspiring atmosphere. The price is as what you'd expect to pay at a fine cafe in Melbourne... heavy on the pocket! But if you're looking for a gratifying cafe experience with Instagram worthy food, Top Paddock surely delivers.
