A friendly café that ticks the right boxes, you could say it almost Le-roars!
Leroy's has a lot of elements going for it. It's right next to Newport train station, a large park and a playground. It's easy to get to and there's heaps of space, play area with a blackboard, toys and small seats for the little ones to enjoy.
It's split into three areas which allows for different views and accommodates many customers, thankfully, as it can get busy.
There's an all-day breakfast menu that's extensive with all the usual suspects.
Coffee is smooth, creamy and hard to fault, which is paramount for a café and the chocolate milkshake is delicious, full of chocolate flavour.
We ordered the Baked Eggs on Fire with Spanish style sauce, trio baked beans, tomato, chilli, red peppers, chorizo, fetta and eggs with toast and The Leroy burger with wagyu beef patty, cheese, relish, tomato, aioli, mixed lettuce, pickle on a brioche bum with fries, of course I added bacon for $2.50 more.
Baked Eggs on Fire buries the eggs under all the magic on top, this ensured the egg was cooked and not super runny as my wonderful partner pointed out. The taste and explosion of spices and chili is all there, leaving no room for criticism for this wonderful creation. It's large by the way, perfect for those that love a big breakfast.
The Leroy burger was surprising. Everything worked well except for the mixed lettuce which left a bitter taste in my mouth. The good old fashion iceberg lettuce would have been a perfect substitute instead. The mixed lettuce was also under the beef patty which continued to cook the lettuce. However, the wagyu beef patty was sublime, with a unique BBQ taste and juicy. A bit more sauce and iceberg lettuce and we might have a contender on our hands. The fries were crunchy and well-seasoned.
We were too full to try anything else but my eyes took note of the Nutella muffin that was succulently peaking at me. I will come back for you.
I enjoyed my experience at Leroy's, the service is attentive and the price is standard for a café. My recommendations are to improve the burger and to include freshly squeezed juice.
There's so much to try on this menu (I'm looking at you Nutella muffin, I haven't forgotten), that I would be looking forward to on my next visit. read more
