My favorite secret gem in Southern California. I think it is the best beach in this region. There's plenty of parking and it is $12. There's also overflow parking across the PCH in the camping grounds. (You can pass under the bridge because PCH is dangerous). There are many picnic tables and barbecues that you can use. Fire is a allowed. Beach is very nice, a little rocky. There are clean restrooms and there are several showers. During the summer times, there's always a lifeguard. Great not so crowded beautiful beach location to play, watch the sunset, bbq, and even have a bonfire. It is a little secluded so that's nice, but if you live near the city it is a little bit of a drive. We went there to meet up friends for a BBQ at the beach and bonfire. We had lots of fun! One word of advise is that the parking pass expires at sunset and the rangers do close/lock up the parking lot. After sunset we parked across the street in the camping site lot, but it was about a 10 minute walk to get back to the beach. read more

A friend and I adventured to the Sycamore Canyon Beach one evening in July 2018 to watch the sunset. We were staying at the Sycamore Canyon Campground inland a little bit and followed the signage/trail to the beach. It is a short walk 5-20 minutes depending on the path you take, if you know where you are going, and if you get distracted along the way. The beach is sandy with rocks bordering the ends of the sandy stretch like book ends. Waves gently rolled in while we watched the sun set. More people arrived the closer to sunset it got. I decided to roll up the bottoms of my jeans and put my feet in the water. Going down to the edge of the water was a little steep, so a side shuffle may be a good option if you don't want to faceplant. It was windy on the beach, which was nice when returning to the campground to be all wind blown. read more

This is one of my favorite beaches in Ventura County. It's a great beach for families and groups. The day fee is $12 or closer to sunset, $3 hourly parking. There are open fire pits and plenty of benches. During Friday nights, some folks gather for religious services. I enjoy the underpass at the edge. It's so cozy and adds something to the experience. This combined by the soft, corse sand and the sunset to create a memorable experience. During sunset you can see Malibu Rock in the distance as the window sweeps mists on your face. read more

Everything was nice except the forest rangers. That's why I'm only giving 3 stars. I wish they had a separate star scale for rude people lol. They are super rude. The have favoritism on the vehicles that can enter when the lot is full. My family and I waited over an hour on the side of the road waiting for a spot. One of rangers approached us and said we had to go across the street and he would signal us when something came available but he would not guarantee the car behind me would enter first when all the cars on the side of the road were clearly all waiting for the same. Another 30 minutes passes and another forest rangers approached us and sad if we wanted to enter we would have to drive up the road do a I turn and wait on the lane to turn left in order to let us in. I told him that the cars before us didn't have to do that. He continued to say he was at lunch and if I wanted to enter I would have to do as I mentioned before. read more

This is a little beach that I would say is a 'last resort' kinda beach to hit up..There is no 'line-up' space to wait for departing cars.. the parking lot fills up quick and there's always a constant flow of cars coming and going, so you've gotta do a u-turn(so super safe!!) to get into the 'left turn lane to wait...AND the 'parks n rec' guys at the entrance are total jerks! Must be the 'LA County' kind of high authority attitude!! We had a very nice time on this beach about 3 years ago and came back to celebrate a birthday just yesterday. We like that this beach is great for BBQing. They have picnic benches and BBQs scattered along this small stretch of beach. Parking is limited and costs $12. If you are going here on a weekend and plan to use a picnic table and BBQ, arrive when they open at 8am or get in line and wait earlier. It gets full fast. By 8:45am on a Saturday, people claimed almost every picnic table. The parking lot was full by 10am and the park rangers turned away all cars trying to enter the lot for most of the remainder of the day despite the lot having a handful of available spaces as people left. People coming for our party were told that the Rangers won't open the parking lot although spaces opened up around noon. As for the condition of the beach itself, we set up next to lifeguard tower 6 and there are porta-potties nearby. The "sand" in that area was more like dirt. It was very fine, brown and dusty. There were tons of rocks, pebbles, sharp black pieces, sticks, trash, etc in the sand/dirt making it very uncomfortable to be barefoot or in sandals. Our feet were filthy from the dust rather than just sandy like at normal beaches. The wind was blowing making the water rough, surf was brutal and rip tides are common. The dirt/sand turns into rocks just under the surf so if you dare go into the water, be prepared. Bare feet and legs will get cut up if the waves knock you down. We liked walking along the beach where the sand was more normal and it was clean. There were two lifeguards on duty just for tower 6 and they were actively watching the beach. Thankfully they were trying to keep people safe and watching the rip tides. All in all, this isn't a beach that is the cleanest or the best for getting wet, but if you get there early and can claim a table and BBQ, then enjoy a nice lunch here. We've seen dolphins out in the water. Please don't feed the birds or leave your trash and leave the place better when you leave. Three years ago this place seemed much nicer. We don't plan on returning anytime soon if at all. read more

I love this beach so much. I've been coming here with my family since I can remember. We come out here during summer time for bbq and it's the perfect spot for it. They have a lot of picnic tables. A lot of people say you need to wake up bright and early to find a picnic table on a weekend, but that's not true. The last couple of times we went, there were a lot available. The two things that I hate: 1. The parking situation. Their lot is always full. 2. The sand wasn't all that great...it hurts to walk barefoot because of all the rocks and sticks. It still doesn't stop me from coming though. There is another parking across sycamore beach that I believe is also a $12 fee. We ended up unpacking our stuff and then parking on the other side. I think the parking lot across is for the camping grounds. read more

It's a nice quaint little beach, it has barbecue pits, a fire pit and picnic tables and the ranger station is right there so there will be likely no riffraff. The only downfall is the pit toilets are pretty nasty. Too bad they don't keep them as clean. as Thornhill broom up the street. read more

I think this place might also be called sycamore cove? Anyway- love this place! What's different about is that there is so much more to do than just sit in the sand and go in the water. The sand is pretty clean and not a lot of seaweed floating around-- much cleaner than santa monica. Its hidden and not a lot of people know about it because it always seems to be pretty empty-- I almost didn't want to write the review to keep it all to myself! If you want to walk down along the coast in wet sand you can, but you can also go climbing on the huge rocks and get a really good view of the water going in and out between them. Parking isn't too bad either. You can either park in the lot adjacent to the beach (its gated) but it closes at sundown. If you're planning on being there a little bit longer there is a strip that has parking right on PCH right before you hit the big rocks. If you find parking up there, do be ready to go down a somewhat steep hill. As long as you're paying attention and there's light out you will be fine. read more

One of my all time favorite beach spots! They have limited parking for $12. There is some street parking on the south west side of PCH but be very mindful of the parking signs as they will ticket and tow. The beach is a nice size cove of white sand. They have bbq pits and bench tables. There are several small and large trees in the back toward the parking lot for those that would enjoy the shade. There is one permanent structure that houses a men and women bathroom on the north end of the parking lot, as well several pot toilets on the south end. They have running water with several spickots around the grounds. Because it's a State Beach with a campground, alcohol is permitted. But no glass containers! And please drink responsibly. We love that we can enjoy a cold beer or glass of wine at sunset. Don't screw it up by being the wasted kook who ruins it all for us responsible adults. It does tend to get windy here and there is absolutely zero cell service. So plan in advance if you are meeting friends. I'd Love to be able to check in here, But I haven't found a spot yet that'll let me. So this review will have to take that place. They do have several lifeguards on sight. Waves are fun but ripe tides are common so swim carefully and responsibly. Across the street is a small STATE campground that is lovely. They have hot and cold showers for money and flush toilets. The sites are beautiful and you will sleep amongst the Sycamore trees. The camp host does sell firewood for about $8 a bundle. But don't solely rely on that as the hosts do change, as do supplies. There are no other amenities. And the gate entrance closes at 10 or 10:30pm, so if you're hanging about Ventura or Malibu for fun, you better be back in time to get your car in as there is NO PARKING allowed on PCH at night. Couple of tips : closest store north is in Oxnard. And south there is Neptune 's Net, which is a great and now very trendy beachfront eatery that caters to beach goers and is also popular amongst motorcycle enthusiast. It's casual and kick back. You can buy beer and some snacks. (Not the cheapest place but certainly the closest) Next stop Trancas where there is a market (new name not sure of) which is south from county line. Best advice is to shop at your local store and don't forget drinks, ice, snacks, sunblock and food! The sunsets are always amazing. Park closes at sunset. Enjoy this little gem. This place is more 3-3.5 stars depending on what you're looking for. If you're trying to find a picnic place and have older kids/adults- you should check out this place. Beautiful scenery, pretty cozy beach, plenty of picnic tables and parking (parking is $3/hr or $12/day). If you are more going for a beach day or have small children, I would go further down to Zuma Beach. Here, the waves are pretty rough and there's a lot of trash littered around. I have 2 little ones and I felt I spent more time making sure my little one does not put discarded beer bottle cap in his mouth, or touched a dirty discarded sock nearby. It really is a beautiful place (plenty of instagram worthy photo opportunities there), but not the best place for toddlers and very small children. read more

My children and I went for a stroll on the beach. The moment we got off the car, the kids were already disappointed. My 5 year old said it was "yucky". There was a lot of rocks, seaweed, and dirt as we headed to the water. Also, they didn't like that in order to "run away from the waves" they had to run up a little hill of sand. Finally, to make things worse we stepped on globs of tar. Our sandals were covered with tar and junk. My son got a bottle cap stuck on his shoe. Now I have to do an online search on how to clean tar off shoes. I ended up writing this review on my children's request. From their perspective this was a horrible experience. If you're an adult who wants to have a picnic or BBQ with a beach as your back ground, great. If you have kids that want to enjoy a beach without being worried of what they step on , then I don't recommend it. FYI: the globs of tar are found as you head southbound on the beach. read more

This is a nice beach except parking should have been more accessible. A lot of people co tubule to park where the signs say "NO PARKING AT ANY TIME" the rip tides at this beach are really strong. First of all, Google sent us on a wild goose chase via GPS to some little housing complex across from Port Hueneme (about 20 minutes north of Point Magu) so we ended up getting to our BBQ late - darn it. When we did arrive safe and sound, the parking lot to the beach was full and a couple very rowdy park rangers quickly told us to get off the side of PCH where we were trying to find our bearings to park. Turns out you can park at the campgrounds for $12 for the day or $3 per hour. We opted for the later as we were already late due to the poor Google instructions. We payed on machines at the lot and then proceeded to huff it about a half a mile on the beach path under the bridge with all of our stuff, around the hoards of beach goers to our party's spot. My brother had gotten there about 10am to reserve a spot with a BBQ grill. We had a great time grilling up some steaks and beans (which cook rather well if you leave them in the can and place them directly on the grill, mix them with salsa and pickled jalapeños - yum ;). Everyone was really respectful of their own areas and overall it was a pleasant day despite Google maps sending us astray with bad directions and a bit of difficulty parking. read more

My husband and I recently camped at the campgrounds nearby and spent a few hours at this beach. Loved it. The waves get a little rough due to the shape of the coastline but there is plenty of space to picnic, play in the sand, and body surf. You can also walk under PCH via a tunnel into the campgrounds and explore. Definitely coming here again. read more

The waves are STRONG, not recommended if you want to actually get in the water to cool off since they drag you in with huge force. Apparently this is also a campsite or something of the sort so I had to pay a $12 parking fee, not to mention there are no showers or actual bathrooms; they're porter potties. The sand turns into dirt at a certain point and a horrible experience trying to change out of wet clothes while not getting dirt in the car and not having anywhere else to change but in public. This beach is also more than an hour away from me, so I definitely will not be coming back. read more

Received a parking citation for not paying right when we entered the premises. So as a precaution to people, make sure you pay BEFORE parking; it's not like a toll road or grab a stub and pay as you leave. And there is no sign as of April 2019 explaining this. We had every intention of paying but due to our own fault, did not see the pay station when we came in. Ranger who was near us did not stop us or alert us for not paying. Then as we got ready to leave and went to pay, were told the machines closed and now we had to get a citation. We appealed it but just want to let yall know how these hidden processes work. read more
