From the very beginning, I felt held by the space, the energy, and the people! Sandi was waiting for me as I booked the time with her for a Thai massage! Amazing! Through the treatments and the evening workshops, something shifted. Little by little, I was able to turn a corner, reconnecting with myself, finding clarity, and feeling strength return. The experience was not just restorative, it was genuinely healing. There was intention, care, and thoughtfulness in every detail, and it made all the difference. The first night, Jason lead a mediation which was so fabulous, and that started my healing journey. Beyond that, the atmosphere is beautiful, warm, and inviting! elevated yet deeply comfortable. The food is exceptional, vegan, creative, nourishing, and beautifully presented, with every dish made with obvious care and passion. What truly sets The Grail apart is the people. The service is attentive, compassionate, and authentic! you're not just a guest, you're seen. That level of presence and humanity is rare, and it's what makes the experience unforgettable. The suite was so comfortable, with a fireplace, such comfortable beds, and a wonderful large tub. The suites was a large size. The Grail is more than a place you visit, it's a place that supports transformation. I'm deeply grateful for the role it played in helping me find my footing again. An absolute gem, and one I will continue to return to and recommend wholeheartedly. Truly exceptional. Alana Burstein

Grail Springs Retreat Centre for Well Being fit the bill for a tranquil weekend getaway. It's a…read moresmall property that had about 18 guests over the Victoria Day long weekend - hurrah to no lines at check-in or having to hustle to find a chair. Of course, their outdoor "spa" facilities are no where near the calibre of sites Scandinave or Vetta. The miniscule jet less soaker tubs that make up the "water circuit" and warm-up-yourself infrared sauna could resemble ones you'd find at someone's cottage. Yet, that's not why you come to Grail Springs. After experiencing it for the weekend, it's the fact that there aren't too many things to do that makes the stay attractive. I didn't feel like I had to go from place-to-place or task-to-task (apart from the morning breakfast, spa treatment, then yoga timetable). It's why when speaking to other guests, they choose to go back solo for progressively longer stays. It's not about the amenities but finding time to relax and unwind. It's a place where if you go by yourself there are tons of other guests doing the same, so it doesn't feel weird. Consequently, if you're not there for the immersion pool and sauna, what is there to do? I highly recommend the spa treatments. They're pricey but was one of the better treatments I've had at an out-of-town destination. When the weather is nice and the black flies are at bay, the outdoor lake-side property and trails are also a draw. Yet, when all else fails, it's nice to just sit in their Great Room and read or talk to people. It's also a great place to BYOB (bring your own board) if you're into games. But, onto the food - my focus here at Gastro World. It's all inclusive and there's no choice so everyone eats the same meal (with consideration for allergies). Everything is vegan, but delicious thanks to a new chef that has recently joined the team. Just be mindful that Grail Springs tends to serve a substantial breakfast and lunch, a small snack in the afternoon, and ends with a light dinner. We didn't realize the progression upon checking in on Friday and proceeding to dinner, it was really scant after hours of driving. It started with a not overly exciting green salad that was nevertheless refreshing and incorporated a tasty maple balsamic dressing that was balanced and not too acidic. This is a long review check out Gastro World for the rest.

The staff was very informative, providing us a map and list of things we could do while we stayed on the resort. There's a spa in the resort, massage and facial service, a restaurant and a bar downstairs as well. You can also book water-sports activities like canoeing, and electric boating, they have a private dock that's less than a minute drive away from the resort. I highly recommend checking out elephant lake, it's really beautiful and calm. They also have bike rentals if you want to bike around the area. During our stay, we were able to reach the staff by texting anything we needed, and they quickly accommodated. The place itself looks modern and aesthetically pleasing, looks like they renovated. The room that I stayed in had all the amenities necessary for a relaxing stay. My only complaint is that the restaurant in the resort needs to work on their food, it was okay but definitely a bit lacking (check out my review for their restaurant lands 8fifty for more details). The bar was okay and had a pool table but was quite empty most of the time. They also had a fire pit out front but it wasn't lit a single time when we were there, looking through the packages I think someone would have to buy a s'mores kit or something for them to light the fireplace. I recommend that they light the fireplace outside for a few hours a day and let the people staying at the resort know since that can help gather more people to socialize at the resort and liven up the common areas a bit. Overall still a very great place to stay at and use as a base to visit Algonquin park. Common areas needs to be more lively though.

Parking lot void of any vehicles, guest or employees. Front doors LOCKED! I walked around the perimeter and looked for signs of life but alas, no luck. I knocked on front doors, and called the telephone number displayed on the front doors without an answer. I left a message asking for someone to immediately contact me as I was standing in front of the hotel in the middle of nowhere and I had a confirmed reservation. I waited until 3:10 and left. Sometime later while driving 75 miles to find another hotel, I go a call from maybe a manager who informed me it was their policy to leave the door locked until 3 pm. She started that she was a bit late unlocking the door and that she was unable to answer the phone because she was on the phone with someone else. Am I living in Bizarro World or what. Do Not believe the Fake News of the other positive post. Stay at the Overlook only if you dare

There was a bloodstain on our bedspread. The standard room is pretty small and sound carries from all of the neighbouring rooms. Worst of all, we had used a Groupon to stay here - 2 nights and a $20 credit for the dining room. They would not honour the dining room credit, because the dining room was closed for "maintenance" the first day of our visit and on the second (checkout) day, it could only have been used at dinner time, but our checkout was 11 a.m. They would not let us use the credit for breakfast or lunch, even though the closure the previous day was not our fault. So, we basically got ripped off for $20.

If you're looking for something exhilarating or adventurous, you should look elsewhere. However, if you're looking for a serene rustic retreat to just refresh your soul and enjoy life in its simplicity, you've found your haven. I must admit that my last visit was a year or so ago so things may have changed since then. It is true that they are short-staffed but I didn't find it an issue. A very nice lady named Nicole was working at the front reception and she tended to our needs wonderfully. The restaurant on site is absolutely stunning with a view of the lake. My boyfriend had the steak at their restaurant and it was pretty good. I got some sort of pasta and it was ok, wouldn't recommend it. Breakfast portions were a little small but food wasn't bad. The equipment isn't in its prime condition but still usable. My boyfriend and I also tried snowmobiling for the first time and it was fantastic! Wonderful trails and tons of fun! I am looking forward to returning to Hastings Resort and would recommend it to my friends =)

There is only one Jacuzzi for the entire place that is constantly full, never cleaned, and not very warm. There are no activities to do here, we had to leave the resort to find anything to do. There is a bar in the pictures, but is not open. I want to save others from the same disappointment I had while staying.

I feel it is necessary to inform anyone else of how awful and misleading this place really is. I hope this review saves another couple from losing hundreds of dollars and having a super shitty weekend. My husband and I had the Jacuzzi room booked for 2 nights. During our stay it was not at all lively, the lights were hardly lit up outside, it wasn't until the second night that we had seen even some of them lit up. There wasn't any music playing, no staff. The deck was not at all maintained, and when we went to use the hot tub it had a ton of sand on the seats, there was only 1 seat that the jets worked properly the rest of the jets were either not working at all or extremely low pressure. In the kitchen/common area we ran out of paper towel in the bathroom day 1, it never was filled. There was little to no coffee provided, and it was freezing cold we couldn't stay in there to have our coffee's in the morning because it was so cold in there. In regards to activities, there was a huge dent in the canoe, and out of the 2 bikes provided 1 was broken, no helmets in sight but there were notices that they must be worn, when we asked about the trail we were told it was not maintained and its over grown. In our room, the windows were covered in dust, and when I went to check under the bed before we left to be sure I didn't forget anything, it was awful, a layer of dust, dirt, leaves, and even a plate... Let alone, the website shows a bar, no where does it mention however they are not licensed. Nothing outside was maintained. I sent an email to the owners the day we got home, explaining all of the disappointments with this resort and all misleading advertisements on their website, their response, our resorts not for everyone. No, your resort is not for anyone.. I politely asked if there was any kind of compensation they can offer us after dropping more than $500 for an extreme disappointment, and not receiving ANYTHING the way it was advertised. That was 5 days ago, and they have not bothered to even respond. . . There is a photo of thier lake they advertise on their website you can clearly see has been photo shopped. This lake is about a quarter the size advertised as it is not maintained and completely overgrown. Hope this saves someone some money and frustration.

This is a four season resort offering golf, lake front activities like swimming and boating, snow mobiling, and the like, depending on the season of course. We visited during mid-July and enjoyed a wonderful stay with such friendly staff. I cannot stress this point enough - EVERYONE here is just so nice and friendly, to the point where coming from Florida, it took a day or two to get used to. John, the owner, was gracious and always there to help you find something to do in the area or a town or two away. This is a 3 story resort, with a wonderful lobby, a pub with lounge and bar, conference room, a new upcoming spa being built, and a new pool. During our stay, breakfast was available every morning served by the wonderful staff here, and always with a smile. Lunch is on your own, but dinner is served in the restaurant. On most nights, the pub opens for fun and food. One night there we met some nice folks from around the US/Canada on a fishing vacation. Myself, my wife and my daughter were invited over to a table of fine chaps along with John the owner one night (John even bought me a beer - Thanks John) and we chatted for hours about everything while consuming Famous Grouse Scotch whiskey provided by our new friends. Also on site is a lounge area with two pool tables, which we loved. The resort is located just outside the limits of Harcourt, Ontario, and sits between many other small cities which we visited, enjoying nature drives, hikes, local restaurants and bakeries. The resort allows guests the use of a golf cart if you wish to take a cruise around the golf course across the street, or down the road to their lakefront property where swimming and small boats (paddle, canoe, row) are available. This is a somewhat rural location, with the nearest town with services (bank, restaurant, liquor) is about 20 minutes away, so prepare for that. Full service gas stations (petrol) taking credit at the pump are about 35 mins away, but I believe there are some old school pumps with pay-inside just down the road 10 minutes or so. The guestrooms here are different from what you'd expect at a regular motel/hotel....some amenities like iron/ironing board are not in-room, but if you ask they are available - our room did not have hanging closets, but plentiful dresser space was available. WiFi is available in most parts of the resort, basement restaurant and bar may not get a signal...also some far corner rooms may not get signal. There are different types of room, some having suite type setups where there are two bedrooms with a dividing door, HD TV, refrigerators and the like. We had a wonderful corner room with double queens separated into two rooms....which had plenty of space. Our only complaint was that it was an eastern facing room and during the morning and afternoon the sun would heat our room up quite a bit...requiring us to ask for a fan, which mostly solved our issues. It appeared many new improvements are occurring/planned while we were there. New construction was in progress for a new spa, and what appeared to be new a bar in the lower level lounge where the pool tables were. New refrigerators, washing machines and all sorts of improvements were seen. Hopefully John can make this place all he wants it to be - from what we experienced, we were very happy and could not have asked for better staff and better location. On a dark night, we stood outside away from the building and I was able to show my 6 year old daughter satellites in orbit moving across the sky -- it was that dark....awesome....can't get that in Tampa Bay Florida.
