I enjoyed the shops and happy I got a sandwich because I missed this place Allá Venicio walking in…read moreFlorence. The sandwiches were amazing. I shared one but customs took my 2nd one w the mortella. The plane seats are so small and crowded there was no way I could pull out my giant sandwich and start eating it on the plane. Anyway I really enjoyed the other shops, there was beautiful leather shops, perfume shops and bright colored shops. It was all pretty cool. I enjoyed the Florence airport

I decided to visit Florence first, mostly because there are no direct flights from NY to FLR and I wanted to get the longer/layover trip out of the way first. After a quick pit stop in AMS, I finally reached my destination in FLR. After landing, I could definitely see why there are no direct flights from the US (maybe?) here - FLR is a pretty small airport. Because our flight was short, we actually boarded and exited the plane on the tarmac and after a short bus ride were shuffled to baggage claim. Everything was really efficient - I didn't interact with many staff members but the bags came quickly. In terms of aesthetics, FLR seems kinda dated/tired - but if you can look past that it has all the amenities that make it a good airport. Clear signs, speedy service, and a rail just outside arrivals that leads you to the city center. Overall, nothing outstanding about FLR from my perspective but also nothing negative - it got me out of the plane and to my destination quickly which I all I can really ask for.

Whats worse is the busses often pick up in dark parking lots without any seating or protection from the elements, so you could be waiting in the rain or in the dark in an unsafe neighborhood waiting for hours. On top of that, there is no phone number you can contact for support, and the online chat support is inhuman. Here's one experience I had with them, as an example: On March 7, 2024, we arrived to the bus station 15 minutes early, per instructions. The bus station was actually a dark, empty parking lot with no seats and no protection from the elements, in a relatively unsafe part of town. This was doubly bad as it was a rainy evening in Austin and there was no covering in the parking lot. After waiting and the departure time passing, we contacted FlixBus only to find out that the bus was delayed more than 45 minutes. FlixBus made no attempt to contact us via email, text, or phone. Had we been notified, we would have waited in our hotel. Instead, we were left waiting in rain in a dark parking lot. As we waited, we watched the ETA online continue to grow to 55+ minutes. FlixBus put us in an unsafe and uncomfortable situation, and we expected a full refund. I have contacted the support team, and they made no apologies for the delay or lack of communication. Instead, they stated that their policy is that refunds are only issued for delays over two hours. I would have been more forgiving if we had received any notice. Airlines, trains, and other transportation providers notify their customers about delays, and FlixBus should be obligated to do so as well. We were not about to wait in the rain in an unsafe neighborhood with all of our luggage for nearly an hour hoping the bus would come. At least when airlines or trains are delayed they notify customers and you are waiting inside in a safe environment. FlixBus customer support was entirely unempathetic and unhelpful, and seemed to have no concern for the safety of their passengers. I highly recommend against such an uncaring company.

This hotel is easy to get to from the train station, saint ..... It's just a 15 min bus ride from…read morethe 1B.. And many other buses.! Upon arrival at the hotel, you are given a huge heavy key with the room number on it. We got a room on the 2nd floor and it was so noisy. I'd estimate about 25-20 rooms on each floor. We could hear everyone slamming their doors and talking. I believe everyone was slamming the door bc this place is super old and that's the only way to make sure the door is closed. You need an actual key to turn and open your room door, as well as locking it from the inside. The tv is super tiny, like about 15-20 inches. The room is super cramped and felt really annoying and gloomy (sunlight blocked). There is a tiny balcony but i think it's the kind for u to just step out and smoke bc u basically can't step out. Lucky for us the shower head was broken and we had to change rooms bc there was no one to fix it at 10pm. We ended up on the 6th floor with a great view of the city, and with only 4 rooms altogether on this floor, there was no slamming of doors. This must be the quietest floor in the hotel! The room was so much more spacious. Instead of a tub we had a shower, and there was extra space for an extra huge chair and a ikea side lack table. I'm sure the other rooms on other floors wouldn't have room for these extras bc they are cramped as hell. There was eve a frig hidden under another table. The beds and pillows are comfy thank god! Bring your own shampoo and conditioner bc they don't provide these! The beds are not queen sized, they are just 2 twin size mattresses pushed together. I usually sleep in the middle of the mattress (husband only gets tiny space haha) so it was uncomfortable to be falling into the middle gap. The complimentary breakfast had a small assortment. You order the coffee with the waiter. There is orange & pineapple juice, fruits, yogurts, cereal, croissants, hams, & cheese. Its decent enough. The waiter definitely does a great job and has excellent customer service. He brightens up people's mornings with his enthusiasm. No free wifi. For 3€ you can get 1 hr of wifi it there are other options like 24hrs etc. This hotel is a 15-20 min walk into piazza duomo??! In conclusion, when I was on the 2nd floor for about an hr, I'd give this hotel 1 star only for its proximity to transportation and major tourist attractions, as well as the friendly front desk staff. On the 6th floor, which is where I was all 3 nights, I'm giving the hotel 3 stars. The key is very annoying but it's bc this hotel is super old and seems to be stuck in the 30s. I don't think they will be updating their key system anytime, bc the doors are solid wood and in good condition. This does meet the 3 stars that they have posted outside their door.i

The charge didn't show up until a couple days later after I paid for my stay, so I found it really shady. I kept my room clean and neat so I don't know what this was about.
