For those of you not born and raised in MA you might not understand my shock when I was surprised…read moreat my reaction after being dragged to a Spirit game this summer. I actually said the following out loud. "Who would have thunk it. There actually is a good reason to be in Lynn after dark" This club/team are a hidden gem for the Boston area. I love the Red Sox and will support them to the day I die, but unless you are some big wig at Mellon Bank with box seats or the Perini Family the games are wicked expensive and almost not worth it. Tickets to the Spirit are cheep! You get to sit close to the field (really close). They have tons of activities for kids. You can get autographs from players, hear the crack of the bat and even the smack of the ball against the leather of the first baseman's glove. Sure the players are sub-pro standards and you may not ever see one of them on a MLB roster. But they have heart and play because they love the sport. These guys play for nothing (something like 6K a season). They love the fans and want to win your approval. Even the team owner is dedicated. He can be seen working hand and hand with the field crew ( I saw him doing it) and has turned this place into a baseball oasis for fans. While there are many parts of Lynn you might not want to be in after sundown this place is safe and full of life. This is the place where real baseball is played and fans can be fans.
