She is now 3 and can swim the length of a lap pool and absolutely blows everyone away when we take her swimming anywhere. I can't tell you how often we get asked where she learned to swim. Most importantly, she knows how to save herself if she falls in water. Turning to her back to float when she's tired is now second nature. Both of my daughters (ages 6 and 8) have been participating in the Swim Float Swim program since they were 18 months old. That means 8 years in the program, which speaks for itself! No matter where I go--whether we are on vacation or at a local pool--people always comment on how skilled, safe, and confident my girls are in the water. My girls have learned the skills to survive and thrive in the water--and that brings so much peace and reassurance to our family. The staff and the instructors (all of whom have been there since we started) have always been friendly, patient, and kind to my daughters, and to me. They have provided encouragement and also correction when needed so that they can learn. There is a learning curve at the beginning, which can be uncomfortable for parents, but once the child gets the hang of it, they have skills for life. It's 100% worth it. I recommend Swim Float Swim to any parent who wants their child to actually LEARN the skills they need in a survival situation. PASS ON THIS BUSINESS-They have discriminated against multiple families within the special needs community. My two special needs children were swimming students at Swim Float Swim. The older one progressed smoothly through the program with no challenges. He has higher functioning Autism and is strong and exceptionally coordinated. My second son has a more severe Autism diagnosis and progressed to a certain point, when the teacher informed me they wanted to take a break with him. That was fine with us but when we reached out to restart his lessons, Swim Float Swim told me that they would "pass on him". This meant they no longer wanted to work with him nor any willingness to discuss options for him. Having been a teacher in the arts for decades, my policy has been to welcome all populations in my classes, including those with disabilities. It was unthinkable to me that Swim Float Swim would tell any family they would work with one child in the family but "pass on" the other (sibling). However, that is exactly what happened to me at Swim Float Swim. With his more severe Autism, my second son needs a little longer than other children to learn. My offers of more money or to provide a therapist to assist the teacher with his goals, Swim Float Swim still declined to finish my son's swim lessons saying "if they didn't learn within the time frame then we have to discontinue with the student, that's just the way it is." The owner of Swim Float Swim must know this policy excludes learners with delays, excludes my son from equal access and opportunities, and is illegal according to the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act.) My son was gaining skills but he didn't achieve a result within their arbitrary timeframe so he is no longer able to participate in any future classes there. After posting my experiences with Swim Float Swim on a Facebook group particular to parents of special needs children in Boulder County, other members of the group posted multiple stories of having the same terrible experience with the owner in slightly different versions. One story included the owner telling a mother "Something is wrong with your child, I can usually get them to float by now." Another family had their pediatrician call and remind the owner of the ADA law, but the policy was not changed. Each of these heartbreaking stories left the parents in tears and feeling ashamed. It is hard to believe that Swim Float Swim has remained in business with such a discriminatory and illegal policy in regards to rejecting special needs children, expelling them from swim lessons because they have special needs and take longer to learn. read more

I can not say enough good things about SFS! Our daughter is 5 and did 3 weeks of lessons. On the last lesson, she was working with the coach to dive under water for rings! She is so much more confident in the water than she was prior to lessons, and she is extremely safe! They also had me join for one of the class days and taught me how to play with her in the pool in a safe way that encourages strong swimming! Coach Joshua and Coach Darla are truly amazing, and Judy is a wealth of knowledge and support. I just cannot say enough great things about Swim Float Swim. My daughter will be joining group classes next week- and her only complaint is that they they are not "all day lessons every single day forever" read more

I was really excited to try SFS because I had a few friends who spoke highly of the program. Unfortunately, they would not let us join because my daughter was born with a disability. I understand that she may not make traveling soccer teams, but not being able to participate in life-saving swim classes seemed like a violation to me. My daughter's doctor even called the owner and requested reasoning and assured the owner that a parent would be present at each lesson. Since the owner is aware of ADA (I'm sure since she has discriminated in the past) she told us that maybe she would reconsider in a few months. We've decided to reconsider her and her program. The lessons provided are very good and provides the safety and skill set that children need. However, during these current times, with parents unemployed and the world turned upside down, there is no consideration of refund, discount etc. for those that have paid for Months of lessons. I cannot recommend Swim Float Swim enough. My daughter went from not wanting water on her face to not wanting to get out of the water. Mae was amazing from her first lesson to her final lesson and made her and I feel at ease everyday. At 20 months she is now completely comfortable and couldn't be happier in the water. Not only does she love it, but we love it and now have confidence that because of this 6 week course she took she has the fundamental skills needed if ever in an emergency. Swim Float Swim teaches survival swimming. It has not always been something my kids have loved and at times I think it is tough for some parents. As older students, they are enjoying it. I have always appreciated that I felt completely confident if my kids were around water. I knew if they fell in, they would know to flip on to their backs and float. I know this because I have seen it. They are not just comfortable in the water. They are competent. read more

The method used to "teach" children to learn to swim is completely barbaric. We had one lesson and will never go back. Hysterical crying on the part of children is built into the model. When children cry because they can't swim/have a fear of the deep water and are repeatedly plunged under by the instructors, the instructor continues to "teach" despite the emotional distress of the child. Parents are told that crying is a natural occurrence when children are learning a new skill. There is nothing natural about what is happening at this facility. Children don't cry and cry and not stop crying when everything is okay. They cry when they are frightened, stressed, overwhelmed and in need of help. Parents are instructed not to interfere with the lesson by approaching the pool and offering comfort to their child. I believe that this program indeed teaches children to swim, but the cost is psychological and emotional trauma. It uses fear-based methods to trigger survival instincts on the part of the child so that they don't drown because they are perpetually dunked into deep water and expected to figure it out even when they are crying hysterically and calling for help from their parents. I witnessed a very small baby subjected to this unethical practice as she was endlessly crying and the instructor plunged her under over and over and over throughout the entire class. 10 minutes of pure hysteria and nervous system overwhelm for this little one. My daughter, 4.5 years old, wasn't instructed at all. She was taken into the deep water and told to open her eyes and reach for the bar. She had never put her head under the water before and was afraid! She wasn't told to hold her breath or how to keep water from coming into her nose or mouth. The teacher dunked her under and then she came up coughing, choking and crying. She was still doing all of these things when the teacher pulled her off the bar and dunked her again! I intervened as quickly as possible. The instructor said, "if I had to wait for her to stop crying I'd be here all day." The instructors and staff are desensitized to the emotional well being of babies and children. They push past any resistance or fear. Children are capable of learning aquatic skills without being treated so inhumanly. Children need trust, connection, comfort and care to learn. This method is unethical and cruel. Parents, your children's cries are not a sign to push forward, they are a call for help and dysregulation. This is not normal. It is not healthy. It is not okay. Keep your children away from this facility. There are swim programs that teach survival skills without fear and trauma. read more

With the Covid virus affecting people medically and their businesses you would think that the small business community would be sensitive to customers paying fir services they are not receiving. Swim Float Swim is still keeping the money they charged people for services not rendered starting in March. I have 3 grandchildren that SFS is still charging lessons for. This is larceny and their reasoning is they still have rent to pay. They are no different than any other businesses that are affected by the virus. I hope that our family and others will remember this when SFS opens up again. This is an outrageous way to run a business. read more

Would you pay top dollar for a professional swim coach to teach you how to swim only to have one of their students teaching you? I wouldn't when it comes to my child's safety! From time to time you will most likely have an inexperienced person with their hands on your infant during your session because this company also teaches people to be an instructor which you the consumer lose valuable teaching/lesson time with her stopping to explain everything. There are many positives about this survival training and I didn't really want to get into how rude and unprofessional this place is but it's hard not to when you walk up to the front desk and aren't greeted when someone is sitting right in front of you. I'm waiting for a hello, can I help you? But nothing! The person at the front desk just kept on doing what they were doing without a care in the world. If this was a franchise and I went Undercover Boss I would for sure fire the owner because they aren't teaching the people at the front desk to be nice, oh wait... the owner was at the front desk! My first day when I brought my son I got this weird vibe and Judy (the owner) was being short with me and just being rude so from the start things were not good. Then I noticed the instructor thing and how much time this was taking away from my son which made me uneasy. Then the unannounced cancelations suck! Once or twice is okay but after a while, you get a little frustrated. I can't believe there aren't more negative reviews but for me, it's taken years to write this because I really don't care about blasting a company but a friend of mine recently had a similar experience with Judy which prompted me to write and this is only the half of it! We now take our kids to the Rec Center in Erie and if you want a breath of fresh air with a great owner who works with our special needs daughter weekly and our newborn soon, head over to Blue Dolphin with Stacy. Don't even THINK about registering your child here if you haven't started them out from infancy! I just spoke with Judy, the operator of SFS. She happily promoted the program ONLY for families who have been enrolled and have "worked their children up" through the program. She wouldn't consider taking my 4 and 6 year old as classes are quite full and they don't have many offerings for kids over 5. I feel the website is misleading as it is welcoming and informative, but the operator of the business wasn't interested in accommodating my family (we're new to Longmont) and said there aren't any swim programs she could recommend (of course!). So only families that have spent thousands of dollars on this business are welcome to continue to pay into the program. I'm very disappointed. read more

Both of my children started their first set of private survival lessons at 9 months. My daughter is now 3.5 years old and she can swim completely independently. Though I would never leave her unsupervised in the water (because I'm a mom), I have absolutely no concern about her swimming ability or her ability to survive if she were to fall in the water. My son also started a 9 months and is 20 months old. He is now capable of swimming independently and surviving if an accident occurred. When you have been doing this program for so long, you just kind of take for granted that your kids can swim. It doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me. However, we were recently on vacation and the reality set in of how special this program is and how much of a privilege it has been to watch my children learn to swim at such a young age. While staying at hotel recently, adults and children alike marveled at my daughter who was jumping off the edge of the pool and swimming across it with no adult assistance. While staying with family, my children were the only ones in their age range that were able to swim. They were the only ones not wearing some unsafe float device. It was honestly bizarre to me. I just wanted to yell "Just Teach Your Kids to Swim!" I will forever be grateful to Judy for having this program available near us. Please take your kids (the younger the better) and trust her and trust the process. When you toddler is not only capable of surviving but can swim at a level light-years ahead of their peers, you will realize how valuable this program actually is. read more

I enrolled my 2 girls, ages 3 & 5, who had previously been so terrified of the water that they refused to get near it. I'll admit that the first couple of classes are difficult for them to endure and for a parent to watch, but after a few classes they were gaining confidence, and by the end of their sessions they were both swimming around like little otters and loving the water. Judy and the staff at SFS take a very personalized approach and tailor a program to each and every kid to ensure that each and every kid gets basic survival skills out of their session. They'll even keep your kid in individual one-on-one lessons at no additional charge after the paid package is completed if that's what your kid needs to graduate. Why bother with any other swim program? This place equips your child with the tools necessary to actually SWIM and be able to save themselves if they ever accidentally fell in. I took my 2 year old son to Swim Float Swim after trying the mommy and me type lessons. I ended up quitting those because they just made my son "comfortable around water" without actually ever teaching him how to swim. Which I though was actually dangerous and counterproductive. So we came to swim float swim for the 6 week intensive, and my son learned how to float and swim within only 4 weeks, and we have been coming to continue developing his skills once a week. We get tons of compliments at the neighborhood pool on how good a swimmer he is and I feel like should he ever accidentally fall in water he would be able to float and call for help or swim to the side without panicking. Full disclosure, the first couple lessons were hard to watch them basically dunk your kid under water. Some parents find this controversial. Like I said, it was hard at first, but then it became absolutely amazing to watch how quickly their method works!Plus the teachers are all so patient and kind as well as professional. Now my son can float and handle himself in water. There's no replacement for adult supervision, but I'm totally confident that if my son fell in a pool or pond he could float and call for help or swim to the side and grab on, or even get out if possible. Best of all, now he has an absolute blast at the pool swimming with us. He loves swimming and is really good at it thanks to this place. I can't recommend it enough. I had heard good things about this swim school from other moms and we decided to splurge on these outrageously expensive lessons. It was a mistake. Of course, once you start, you can't get any of your money back, so we did the whole 6 weeks. I should have pulled my toddler out though because she really didn't have any lasting skills after the 6 weeks. They guaranteed that she would be able to do the "swim, float, swim" sequence after her 6 weeks, or more private lessons would be free. She couldn't do it, and they didn't offer more lessons. I didn't push for it because she cried through every single lesson and I felt that it was torture for me to watch and maybe not a good situation to have put my child in. My 18 month daughter had the owner as her instructor, and a trainee. They made it sound like that would be an advantage, but then spent the whole time talking to each other and not to my daughter. I tried to tell them that she was very verbal and they should talk to her, but they didn't. The instructor would tell me at the end what she needed to do differently, like put her head in the water, but she never once told my daughter that. It was a truly terrible experience and I would not recommend it at all. I kept telling myself that at least my daughter would have the skills to save herself if need be, but she didn't get that, she just had a terrible time, day after day, for six weeks! read more

I've only heard rave reviews about Swim Float Swim, but even so, I was stunned at how effective their teaching methods are. Last summer, at 4 years old, my twins took a beginning swim class through the city of Longmont. At the end of those lessons, they would still gasp and flail, after barely touching their face to the water in a quick dip. Fast forward a few months, and at their first private lesson at Swim Float Swim, each was again flailing when they put their face in the water. Then by the end of their second, 20 minute lesson, both of them were jumping in and kicking part way across the pool, then flipping to their backs to rest and breathe. By the second week, they were swimming across the pool with winter clothes and shoes on. How is all of this possible? It still seems unbelievable to me. The instructors make it look so simple. Yet, I speak with other moms who feel the same way: "simple," but it never happened with weeks and weeks of traditional lessons. The instructors are firm, but kind. They get the kids to work hard, and the kids are so proud of themselves after each lesson. Another bonus: the water is warm, so if your kids spend most of their traditional swim lessons shivering, that won't be a problem here. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Totally. I had planned to do only the intro, 3 weeks of private lessons, because of the cost, but we just signed on for a season of group lessons, and plan to continue for at least another year. This is substantially more expensive than the rec center lessons, but my kids actually learned to swim. So the cost-to-benefit ratio makes Swim Float Swim vastly the better deal. I got my money's worth, and my kids now love to swim. read more

The money we spent on the classes at Swim Float Swim is some of the best money we have ever spent on our children. I have three children and started coming to Swim Float Swim in 2011 when my oldest son was 3. He started taking swimming lessons at 6 months somewhere else; however, even at 3 he was still unable to do much more than play in the water while being held by an adult. After my son completed his first set of lessons at Swim- Float- Swim he was able to swim and roll for breath and swim and do this to the side of the pool. It was absolutely incredible. It is the only class that my children have taken where I have seen actual results right away. What is even more amazing is that what he learned is a life skill. No one will ever need to play soccer to save their life....but they might need to swim to save it. Judy and her team are wonderful with children. They are highly skilled, extremely organized and incredibly passionate about what they do. This works and it works fast! I also want to comment on how well they teach swimming strokes. They use an incredibly well-thought-out method to layer the strokes so young kids develop into strong swimmers. I am so dedicated to this that even though we do not live in Colorado we come every summer just to do these lessons with Judy and her team. Thank you for all your great work! read more
