Literally stumbled in here the live DJ had us wanting to see what it was about and I'm glad we did. Brought my cousin here to celebrate his birthday. He had a hit butter drink I can't remember the name and I had two "pressed Lucks" they were delicious! Our bartender Henry made them he was attentive and had great customer service. Juan Carlos was also a good time. He was very personable and knowledgeable of the menu. The live DJ and the vibes were giving very much grown and sexy. Swig is a fun bar with live music at night. I visited with friends around 11 on a Saturday. They had a DJ, small dance floor and plenty of seating! They also have an upstairs area if you want a more intimate/private experience. It was really loud, but something you'd expect around that time on a Saturday! The drinks were good and they are known for their signature shooters (shots) which are delicious! If you're on Geary St. and want a bar/clubish experience this is the place to go! read more

We were looking for late night open places when we stumbled upon Swig. The music could be heard from outside which got us excited and we quickly made our way in. The place was empty when we got in but people started trickling in as we got our drinks. There is hardly any place to sit in here, its made for dancing I believe so the floor is open with chairs only along the bar and a small seat next to the fireplace. Drinks : The drinks are the only reason I am giving this a 3 star, since the place was very cool and open till late in the night. Our drinks were at the most average and so had to stick to beer. We had to head out to find a place that offered good drinks. Ambience : As soon as we stepped foot into this loud space, we brought the average age of this place up by at least 5 years. The crowd is young and dressy. We came here towards the end of the night when we were close to packing up but we noticed that the crowd here was just starting their night. As soon as the dance floor opened with trippy lights and awesome music, the crowd started making their way towards the floor with some cool moves. Dress up if you are looking to come here! read more

Swig is sweet. We came here after we were told Jones was reserved for some huge party... Will have to go back later and write a review about that place. It seemed pretty cool. So was the bouncer who recommended Swig to us! Bartender got to us pretty quickly. The cocktail I had, Desert Rose, was nice and strong topped with a big juicy strawberry. Definitely was content with just the one cocktail, it was so well made. I'd order it again. And then try out the rest of the menu. The drinks my friends had looked good and they finished them happily too. I've heard this place has a dancefloor but lots of chairs and tables were set up. Maybe there are certain nights when the space is cleared? Although it was Friday... I could see myself getting up to dance there, plenty of room to bust a move! Anywho, Swig's got a dark, cool, classic, lounge-y atmosphere with lots of seating. The music was great and made for the perfect spot to chill out and gab with friends. Great and conveniently located bar with long counter, upstairs and fireplace. My friend really enjoyed the drinks here and years past, we stopped here after a holiday party. If I were to judge a bar by its cover, this place would get a much higher rating. But it's a bar so... I find it more appropriate to judge by its drinks, and in that department I sadly found this place lacking. The interior is cute, but small. The upstairs was closed off on the night I went. There's a colorful fireplace and mostly bar stools and standing areas, with one or two couches. On the night we went, they were out of two of their craft cocktails (which happened to be our first two choices) and didn't have the ingredients to make my usual go-to of a bloody mary. The drink I ended up with was good, but still... if you can't get a drink of choice at a bar, where can you? Sorry, Swig. My next drink will be elsewhere. read more

Leather seating, exposed brick walls, cocktails that are on point and an impressive fireplace? Those are the reasons I go to Swig. I remember back in the day when the dance floor would get crowded on the weekends since there's no cover charge here. The contemporary space really feels more like a lounge than a bar, so you ladies can spread out with your crew without feeling cramped unlike at most SF bars. Whether you get one of their mainstay cocktails like the Spanish Pistol (tequila, drambuie, pineapple, rosemary, lemon) or their Coffee Revival (bourbon, amaro, orgeat, espresso bitters), you wouldn't be disappointed. I also tried their Negroni on draft which had a thyme infused amaro. Very interesting! Since it's located near Union Square where I usually hang out on those looong bar hopping nights, you'll most likely find me at Swig again. I love this club!!! It's seriously one of my favorite bars/clubs in the city. It's a nice place to bring a large group. It gets busy later and can have a line but if you get in around 10, you should be fine. They have great specialty cocktails - like the Rio Grande (Bulleit). The music is always on point here. They play 90s hip-hop - current rap! There is plenty of space to dance and a large bar area with plenty of bartenders. I highly recommend going to this spot! read more

Pub Crawl Stop #6~ No cover. A bar. But more like the club crowd. People were dressed up. Big place. But superduper packed. Great music. Would've dance but seriously waaaaay too many people. Some crazy bum was burning a cigarette box and butts while we were waiting in line. She was probably keeping herself warm since she had no pants on. Thank goodness, her shirt was long. The bouncer stomped the fire out. The bum set it on fire again. The bouncer came back to stomp it out and kicked it to the streets. That was entertaining for couple minutes. read more

To be clear - this establishment has a great layout and can be a fun time. That said.. proceed with caution. A year ago my friends phone was stolen and so much fraud was committed on her accounts, the thief of course had watched her input her passcode to take advantage. A year later, last week specifically, we gave this place another shot. The same friend forgot to close out and left her credit card there. A few days later she reached out and they claimed they had 'lost her card'.. that someone with a similar name was probably given her card instead. The bar was virtually empty when we visited so this is hard to believe. In that time.. $200 was spent between this bar and a restaurant nearby. So that is certainly not the case. The managers number we were given has the sketchiest voice mail I've ever heard.. not even sure it was in English and you cant even make out with the gentleman is saying. Extremely sketchy establishment, be careful. read more

i love swig. it's been here a long time. It's solid because.. The doormen are nice. they do their job and yes if they are at capacity they will kindly ask you to wait. there is no door cover. drinks are poured correctly and at the prices you'd expect. it's a small dance floor but it's a goooood dance floor. Top 40 and the shit you want to hear. there is no coat check but plenty of hooks around. there are different experiences here- quieter upstairs. Can chat and have a convo at the bar or by the door area (tables). Or just go nuts on the dance floor. read more

On the random I pulled up to Swig on a Wednesday night. I had a friend visiting SF and Swig was one of the few places open that had music. We stopped in a little after midnight. There wasn't any cover and sure enough there was a small crowd, a DJ and a pretty nice bar. There was enough space for dancing as well as a good sized bar. The crowd energy was pretty chill with only a few people dancing but we changed that pretty quickly. I'm not much of a cocktail guy and only order a drink with one mixer. The DJ was in their own world and although some of the song selection didn't really flow, they were able to keep the energy level of the crowd. I could see Swig getting packed and being a really good time especially with a really good DJ. They have an upstairs balcony that was open and let's you get a more VIP experience. If you're looking for a spot in the TL to get some decent cocktails and have access to a dance floor without the crowds, Swig may be the place for you! No dress code, no cover, no long lines for drinks (at least on the Friday night I went). There's a nice upstairs area good for groups. Note there's a secret bathroom upstairs that my girlfriend and I thought was for gay people to make out because we think that's what was happening. The DJ that night was spinning some classic 90's hip-hop and modern Drake R&B type songs. Rented the upstairs for a bday party. I'd give 1 star but the bartender was great! Here is what went wrong: -they ask to pay tip for the whole night upfront but most people will tip anyways, so they just collect double tip -they did not let us settle the bill at the beginning of the start of the night, waited until the very end at 1.30am when the hosts were tipsy and asked for $150 more than agreed upon. The discussion lasted 20min and we left out of resentment -the PhotoBooth was not working -there was no one checking who's actually part of the Event and random intruders that kept coming upstairs If you look for a good venue to host, check out Redfords next door! The first time I went to Swig was about 8+ years ago. My friends and I were in the area and we just walked in. I remember it being packed and having more of a dance club vibe back then, so we just drank and danced for a bit. Last week, I was walking around the TL with a friend and we just decided to drop in. It was Thursday, July 14th around 10:45pm. I've walked by Swig many times after work and the walk of alcohol has always appealed to me. A beautiful wall of liquor? Yes please! Although my time there last week is a little hazy, I remember it being crowded, but not super packed. My friend took care of going to the bar to grab us drinks. I believe we were only there for a round, but I had fun just checking out the bar. I think I'll come back one day when it isn't super crowded. I love a more chill, low key vibe.
