Lipstick on a pig - that's the only way I know how to describe "Sweetwater." Moved into the 14000 building this past January on the top floor with a water view. Most nights (not weekends but pretty much 7 days a week) people were at the dock/fire pit, drunk, blasting music so loud you could hear it in your apartment with the doors and windows closed until 5A. There's a group of 10 people in the pool now (that closed 2 hours ago) now that are loud. It grew old months ago. I've literally gotten up at 5A and saw people finally putting the fire out on a random Wednesday morning. Calling the community service officer is useless. I've called on 3 separate occasions and officially gave up as nothing was ever done. Signs were put up telling people to leave by 10P but most nights people are still outside partying way past closing time. Since the pool and new BBQ area opened, the nightly partying continues. The BBQ was such a filthy mess one Saturday morning I heard Jonathan the maintenance man cussing up a storm because he was stuck cleaning up the filth left behind from the night before. Who could blame him? Why should a grown man be forced to clean up after adults? It's pretty much a regular occurrence for the area to be littered with empty beer and liquor bottles splayed everywhere as well as plates of half eaten food just literally smushed on the couch cushions. I see Sweetwater staff cleaning up this area early in the morning on a regular basis. And if that's not bad enough - they also rent units out through AirBNB. The unit below mine is one such unit. I immediately knew something was up when the person below me moved out. Someone was suddenly downstairs who kept slamming doors. All day. Every day. Then after a week it stopped. Then a few weeks went by and another person would leave their two dogs outside on the balcony barking incessantly and then left the unit. Why not - it's a hotel for them and not their actual house. They aren't paying the electric bill. So what if they leave the balcony door open when it's 90 outside. Then another couple came in and had a MAJOR screaming match for hours. Then last weekend another couple came thru and had a screaming baby wake me up at 5A. Then this past Thursday the brand new dishwasher died. Actually is poured water everywhere to the point I thought certain it flooded the unit below mine. 45 minutes later someone finally came to my unit. I came home hoping to find it fixed but instead found a note telling me it would be 10 days before it's fixed (it was full of dirty dishes) because a part had to be ordered. Didn't receive a phone call but a note. I repeatedly requested they replace it with one from any of the 69 empty units and they repeatedly refused, never offering an explanation why this couldn't be done. Sadly the filth extends to the building and units themselves. The interior open-air hallways have been pressure washed twice in the few short months I've lived here to remove the dead bugs that litter the hallways. It's disgusting. Every kind of bug you can imagine. Dried and stuck to the walls, in huge cobweb corners of the ceilings, smashed on the ground or in the elevators. There are small and huge roaches crawling the walls directly outside units as well as in elevators DAILY. Shortly after moving in the roaches made an appearance. As I was coming in one afternoon, one of my adjacent neighbors had a paper towel in her hand as she was leaving the building. She stopped to say she was on her way to the leasing office about the bugs and then showed me the paper towel with two small roaches she found. I told her about the problems I had. My unit was sprayed but it wasn't until after that I learned the service only sprayed two rooms insisting the entire unit didn't need to be sprayed. That of course was useless because the roaches came back within days. I had the unit sprayed a second time and insisted every room be sprayed. The guy repeatedly justified spraying only a few rooms, did a half a$$ job and was in and out of my unit in less than 5 minutes. He did not spray in the laundry closet, under the couch, behind the TV, behind the dresser or even go in the bathroom. A few weeks later and still had roaches. One morning I literally found 3 within a few minutes. I then had another conversation with my other adjacent neighbor who informed me she had roaches in her unit as well. What's worse - the roaches were so bad - she literally had her unit sprayed EVERY WEEK FOR THE YEAR SHE LIVED HERE!!!! All of this info was relayed to "management" repeatedly over the last few months. I repeatedly requested they arrange to have every unit in the entire building sprayed on the same day as this was the ONLY way to get rid of them. They repeatedly refused even tho we are all charged a mandatory extra $3 a month for "pest control". Instead they repeatedly tried to schedule my unit be sprayed a third time. Lipstick on a pig! I love it! That's right Karen M. This is where rednecks go when they graduate from the trailer park. Management has zero control over tenants who leave floating trash hanging off dock (they want to call it bait traps) that are covered in seaweed; cigarette butts and beer cans on dock (even though there is a no alcohol policy). Tenants are so uncontrollable that Sweetwater had to remove the cardboard recycle bin and cover up the other recycle bin because the tenants kept throwing furniture in the recycle area. Oh, and let's not forget the fact that there is not a single playground for children BUT there are TWO (that's right - two) large dog parks. Hum....apparently Sweetwater values dogs more then children. And finally, who can ever forget the fact that they unceremoniously cut down a majestic grand oak without a single mention in the newsletter. Sweetwater has done its part to contribute to the detrimental qualities of today's so-called modern society. When will architects and engineers start to build housing for human beings rather than for profit only? This place could have been really nice but they just wanted to cram as many apartments as possible with disregard to children and left zero consideration for a nice place to walk around. It's 1:40 in the morning. And yesterday at 6:38 AM I was woken by more drunks on the dock screaming. And the roaches. Mother. Of. Gawd the roaches. Unit been sprayed 3 times and nothing. My neighbor told me before she moved out her unit was sprayed EVERY WEEK FOR A YEAR! Sweetwater is like living in a drunk, filthy, roach infested frat house. I am a recent transplant from Seattle, Washington to Charleston. My experiences with Sweetwater have been amazing. They were instrumental in helping my packages/furniture arrive in my new apartment before I arrived. All the staff is friendly and knows my name and my dog's name when they see me. I feel at home in the amazing community with amazing perks such as food trucks, resort pool, fishing area, boat launch, dog park and more. I've lived here at Sweetwater for 7 months now and it's just an incredible place to love. Moving from Ohio our biggest ticket item was finding an apartment complex that truly felt integrated in the natural setting of the south - something we couldn't find up North... while also in our price range. Being located right on Nowell Creek and having kayaks to put in is truly what made Sweetwater stand out to us. We also love being able to walk our community and sit on the docks. I am so glad we picked this community. We first looked when it was barely built and crossed it off of our list. After a friends recommendation we retried this location and fell in love. We love Sweetwater so much! We moved here from Ohio 2 months ago and have enjoyed all of the amenities Sweetwater has to offer - gorgeous quiet pool, hammocks and the docks to watch dolphins. Been living in Sweetwater since last June and we love it. It's centrally located, has some gorgeous views on the water, and for all the foodies out there, an amazing kitchen setup in all the units. Have loved living at Sweetwater the past year and a half! Just resigned my lease at the beginning of the year and plan to do so at the beginning of next. Maintenance comes right away for even minor issues and the staff is very helpful! read more
