One of the many huge roaches at SweetWater

I lived here for a year and could not be happier that my lease was up. Let me start off with the office staff is friendly and professional. Also, maintenance responds fairly quickly if needed. My biggest complaint about the Sweet Water are the mosquitoes. These are not any ordinary mosquitoes... these mosquitoes bite through your leggings, thin jackets, socks and even thin pairs of skinny jeans! OFF bug spray rarely deters them. My friends who came to visit and myself got bit initially when moving in which formed knots that came with redness and then 1-2 weeks of bruising. Having a pet and having to walk them made every few hours was absolutely MISERABLE - especially during the Charleston summer heat! I had to wear thick heavy clothing to protect myself from mosquitoes bites. At least two pairs of sweatpants, a hoodie so they couldn't bite the back of my neck or ears and thick socks. Sometimes I'd still get bit on my face or hands because those are the places that were difficult to cover. I had to stop wearing perfume and run to my car if I had shorts on. I complained to the office and they suggested that I change my detergent, deodorant, shower gel, hand soaps, lotions, shampoos etc to a scent free option. How nice of them, right? I'm paying over $2,000 a month...Now, I have to change and go buy all new products so I can live here comfortably? Exceptional. The office must have gotten many similar complaints because they hired a company to spray pesticides throughout the neighborhood weekly at at dusk (I'm guessing so the community wouldn't be alarmed). I saw the pesticides being massively sprayed when a large truck passed me when I was walking my dog and I saw a film in the air which landed and felt sticky on my face. There was no notice that anything was even being sprayed, what it was, or a scheduled time so people could avoid the outdoors. I got caught in the mist a few times. They used to spray Thursday nights. The spray would work for a few days (not if there was a following rainstorm). By the beginning of the week the mosquitoes were back in full effect. The pool is no exception. You can't go simply to the pool without a can of bug spray. Especially when there isn't a breeze outside by the water, you will get eaten alive! The place is extremely overpriced considering. The 'luxury living marsh community' has a trash valet that has no option for recycling. In addition, the walls are NOT soundproof/ sound resistant as they claim. You can still hear when your lovely neighbors pooch barks, a midnight sneeze/ cough or when someone decides to flush a toilet. Overall, the community was very deceiving. I wouldn't live there again, even if they offered free rent if that says enough. If you like camping 24/7 then this might just be the community you're looking for. The amenities are truly beautiful but if they are outside... be prepared! Do not get stuck without doing your research, especially if you have small children and or pets. Side note: I didn't break lease and payed every month's rent on or before time. This is my honest opinion and experience of living here.

You will not find a single leaf on the ground. Here's the most important benefit, to me: you cannot hear your neighbors. I'd say that once a month, I'd hear my neighbors drop something, but that's about it. It's VERY quiet. No footsteps, snoring, conversation eavesdropping, or music can be heard (unless your neighbor is having a party of course, but this doesn't happen at the Jasper.) The building is hurricane proof and from what I'm guessing, would be the last thing standing in the event of a nuclear blast - it's top notch. Tenants are comprised of the mid to older age range, with some graduate students sprinkled in. No ragers, no pre games, no screaming. Everyone is nice, and every pet is nice. There are shops/restaurants underneath that are 10/10 and convenient. There are monthly resident events that are well worth the time to attend (sunset paddle boarding, sunset ferry rides, weekly Wednesday happy hours, wreath making, candle making, food trucks, all FREE). The internet is lightning fast. The location can't be beat - with Colonial lake across the street, and the historic district a 1 minute walk away... makes me want to move back! Rent for my 1 bedroom was $3600 monthly. It's steep, but if you spend 95% of your time somewhere, it's worth the money. There is no better apartment in all of Charleston, and I've seen them all! 5/5 10/10 - no complaints.

The community atmosphere here is one of my favorite parts. There's always something going on, and it's a great way to meet people and actually feel connected to where you live. The amenities are a huge bonus--clean gym, study spaces, and the clubhouse is perfect for hanging out or getting work done. My apartment has been comfortable and well-maintained, and any maintenance requests I've had were handled quickly and professionally. If you're looking for a place that's more than just an apartment--somewhere with a community feel, great staff, and awesome amenities--Summit Place is definitely worth checking out.
