Sweets & Treats is a sweet shop in Kingstanding which used to be excellent but has gone downhill over the last 12 months or so. It used to be really cheap with a massive selection of sweets and crisps, but now it's nearly all bagged sweets and boxes of chocolates which are not much cheaper than those in the supermarkets.
It's quite a big shop and always used to be crammed with stock, but now the shelves are sparse and there is very little to choose from.
The bagged sweets are run of the mill that you can buy in any newsagent and although the prices for these are quite cheap, they are not very good quality and the hard sweets always seem to be stuck together. The chocolate fudge is lovely, but this is hardly ever in stock at the moment so I rarely buy any of these sweets.
The biscuits are rubbish now as well, it's nearly all those 20p Crawford packets with a few Cadburys Animal biscuits and Maryland cookies thrown in. Sometimes the biscuits have only a couple of weeks before the 'use by' date and I've bought some from here recently which were horribly soft.
There are chocolate bars, almost all foreign and budget brands, and crisps for sale in here too. The crisps are good value and Sweets & Treats have quite a good selection including Walkers crisps, Pom Bears, French Fries and others. They usually charge £1 for a multi pack which is a great price considering they are almost double this price in Asda.
They have a nice selection of boxed chocolates such as Quality Street, Ferrero Rocher, Roses etc but they have recently hiked the prices up on these so you might as well take advantage of the excellent special offers in the supermarkets at newsagents at this time of year. Now Christmas is approaching they have started stocking the tins of Celebrations and Roses, but again they just cannot compete with the £5 deals that most of the major shops seem to be running this year.
The staff are awful now too, they always look bored and not happy to be there. There is little chit chat in the shop and I always feel like they can't wait to see the back of me when I'm paying for my stuff.
At one time I used to visit here at least once a week to stock up on the munchies for us all, I'd spend around a tenner and get a excellent selection of goodies to last us for the week. Now though I only bother when I'm in the area anyway and even then I'll often walk around and just come out with a 50p chocolate marzipan bar! It's just not worth it anymore. read more
