Been here a few times and the gelato has always been great with rotating seasonal flavors at great prices for the quality. The place is quaint and inviting with indoor and outdoor seating. However, my two star deduction is for the service. We walked here because we live in the area. I walked in first with our daughter while my husband tied our dog outside. Inside a gentleman was being serviced by one of the two girls. As I was waiting, three other people walked in immediately behind me. The blonde girl not helping the guy in front of me immediately says hi to them and completely ignores me and doesn't even address me. She then tells the girl who was already scooping the guy's second order that she will take over and she can help the next person i.e. me. I didn't put two and two together until after I sat down and ruminated. Being the only minority customer I hate having to think that had anything to do with it, but it's not a great feeling. There's no reason she shouldn't have greeted me or helped me when she was available. Very disappointing considering it's not an environment I want my mixed race daughter to grow up in. read more

It is made every morning...it can't get fresher than that. The owner will think every morning of the flavor he wants to sell that day. So everyday you might get some new flavors. The gelato was super creamy and light. The best thing about this place is that my favorite flavor has a consistent day...that is the pistachio flavor. That is only sold on the weekends. The portion is super huge here and my sweet tooth is very very happy with me every single time. I usually order one size smaller than the actual size I want. So if I want a large cup of gelato I will order a medium. Why? Because the medium will satisfy me as much as the large...but every single time I am tempted in going back for seconds. They also sell cakes here. I looked through their cake catalog and it looks like they make a bunch of fancy cakes. The pictures usually have two to three tiers. Probably great for big celebration like weddings or even a big birthday party. Great place and the person who works here is super friendly. Totally worth coming here over and over. read more

Well there goes the New Year's diet!! Why did I discover this place after my resolutions were made? I would give this place 10 stars if I could. 10 delicious stars. It is a small unassuming shop off of 33rd that you could miss if you blinked. But the inside was adorable and filled with tempting sweets and smiling faces. The friendly woman behind the counter with an Italian accent began to describe all the mesmerizing flavors with expert knowledge. She enthusiastically wanted us to sample anything that we wanted...tiramisu, white chocolate, almond, salted caramel, coconut. There were sorbettos too. I tried the pear and the dark chocolate sorbettos. How did they get the dark chocolate sorbetto so creamy? I wound up settling for only two: malaga (rum raisin on Sicilian steroids) and stracciatella (rich vanilla with flakes of chocolate or Italian chocolate chip if you will). Really you could not go wrong with any of the flavors here. As I enjoyed my gelato, I closed my eyes and pretended that instead of looking out onto 33rd south, I was gazing out onto some piazza in Firenze. The creamy mouth-feel of this gelato was just heavenly. Like eating a cloud heavenly. It was served at the right temperature too...slightly warmer then regular ice cream, which lends itself to a perfect taste sensation and provides a smooth consistency. Nobody in Utah even comes close. Did you know you can even get your gelato in a cannoli shell? Mind blown. If you can bring yourself to step away from the gelato case, you will notice that they offer espresso drinks (they even have affogato), pastries, custom cakes and an ice cream sandwich made from a warm brioche bun with a scoop of gelato and a smear of Nutella if you wish. Dreams do come true fellow Yelpers. FYI...I have a weakness for cannolis. I have been eating them since I was a bambina. And the cannolis here were some of the best I have ever had. Top notes of orange, little candied fruits and the filling was as creamy as the gelato. The shell wasn't soggy at all, which means they were freshly filled. I even got to practice my Italian a little and talk about where my family is from in Italy. It is these little touches (plus the amazing food) that makes you feel good about supporting a small local business run by a nice family trying to find a little bit of that American dream. Owner Bio: Francesco (a U of Utah alumni) and his wife left Italy to Utah about 5 months ago, after witnessing the decrepit state of the Italian economy (both as a businessman and citizen). Sweetaly serves authentic Italian gelato, made from fresh and delicious ingredients. The store is small, and the parking scarce, but the passion and interaction from Francesco more than easily makes up for those 'issues,' if you can call them that! My friends and I finished lunch at a nearby (also delicious, keep your eyes peeled for that review) restaurant and headed over to Sweetaly for dessert! What impressed me was the man behind the counter who shared his story with us (and let us sample the goods!) of his wares. I ended up getting a half and half (2 flavors of gelato in a cup), and THEN ordered a pint of another 2 flavors of gelato to go! Am I a fattie? Yes. There's a new king of the gelato hill in the valley and its Sweetaly IMO. While the location may be a bit off the beaten path, it's worth it. I like the later hours so it gives people a chance to experience all they have. The flavored are constantly changing and genuine. Pear is my favorite, I could eat an entire bin of that. But they now have other items as well, be sure to check those out. And if you're lucky enough, you can watch them make some extraordinary custom cakes. This place is the real deal--authentic and decadent Italian gelato. The owners, both from Italy, make their own gelato and it is the stuff of dreams. My daughter had peach/mango and lemon, my husband had the cookie gelato (I forgot the name) and pistachio, and I had the dark chocolate and cherry. They were all good but I made the best choice. The gelato was smooth and creamy. The cherry one was not too sweet and the tartness of cherries came right through. The dark chocolate was just...heaven. So rich in chocolate taste with that slight bitterness of dark chocolate and just sweet enough to enjoy from the first to the very last bite. The cookie gelato was really good and next time I may order it with Nutella gelato, or maybe I'll do dark chocolate and strawberry. I don't know what I'll try next. Best gelato in SLC. Their mojito lime in the spring is one you have to try. Lemon is the perfect level of sweet and tart, hazelnut is creamy, and their rotating flavors are each a new and delightful surprise. Also, the almond cookies at the checkout are a must. We were pleasantly delighted by Sweetaly's unique flavors of gelato and sorbet. Tonight we went in for my son's birthday, because I'm tired of the artificial flavors at all the ice cream shops. We were promptly greeted by a sweet lady, who we found out is one of the owners. She was so kind to let all seven of us sample every.single.delicious.flavor. We were seriously blown away by the flavors! Between all of us, we ordered the lemon biscotti, salted caramel, Nutella, banana, black cherry, almond, and mocha gelato. They also had super tasty dark chocolate, raspberry, and lemon sorbet. Yum. Their gelato was smooth, delicate, light, yet incredibly flavorful. I love that this is a locally owned, Italian family operated gelato shop. Five stars. We will be back to try all their other flavors!! OMG this was the best gelato we have had in a very long time! The dark chocolate was smooth and tasty - not too sweet and made with good quality chocolate and cream. There were 13 of us and we all enjoyed the selection of flavors. The candy cane gelato was different and excellent - it had all the flavors of a candy cane without the heavy sweetness and the mint flavoring was perfect. There is parking our front - don't blink as you come down 3300 south or you could miss it but it's worth it. The setup is simple but the product excellent and the people very helpful and nice. What a delicious treat for a hot, summer day during our quick, one-day visit in SLC. We just had dinner and the summer sun was beating down on us, so we were craving a sweet treat. This place entirely satisfied those cravings. The shop is very tiny - just a few seats for people to enjoy their gelato or other sweet treats. I opted for a combo of the coconut and the lemon. The flavors were some of the freshest tasting gelato I've ever had. You could taste the lemon zest throughout the entire flavor as well as the shredded coconut. The service was very friendly, although I'll add that the overall area was a little run down. A lady walked in, pretended that she was going to order, then stole out of the tip jar. I was so annoyed, but the service was so nice, calm, and collected about the situation. Highly recommend. read more

Having never visited Italy, I can't talk about the "authenticity" of this gelato. But it's made by Italian dudes. Having visited many a gelato shops in my day, I can definitely say that this stuff ranks up there. It's quite good! That's the thing--you just have to know what you like. You have to go after it. The guys who started Sweetaly have embraced that, and it shows in these reviews. They love what they're doing and they're going after it. Now they're opening a second shop and daring to dream. They're bringing gelato to the people, the way that they do it. And as for me, I may not know what's right, wrong, or in between when it comes to what's authentic, but I genuinely like this stuff so that's what I'm diving into here. I'm behind it 100%. The Ferrero Rocher flavor was great, with bits of the candy mixed in. The pear was outstanding--I've only had pear gelato on one other occasion and it was tremendously good. Color me a fan. There are a lot of juxtapositions in this town, a lot of them. Given by the food offerings in Salt Lake City, you've probably picked up on the fact that the most premier eats are in the most avoidable places. Such is the case with Sweetaly Gelato, although this is a place that is far from the avoidable. I just wanted a quick dessert, something to satisfy my need for a pre-dinner sugar rush and this my friends, totally blew my sandals off! Talking about the place, it's nearby the old Granite High School, in a grey building (think kiddie corner) along 3300 South. Inside, you'll have a warm welcome, smiles, and samples if you please. I opted for a smaller serving of Frollino gelato. I'm sure a couple of you can school me on what it is or I could google it to be a poser, but nah, this taste didn't register in my brain for several minutes, hence the review.
