    Sausage,cheese &egg biscuits

First of all this is a biscuit shop so if you wanted traditional breakfast this is not it . Not a keto friendly stop . This remind me of the hotel breakfast at holiday in on steroids. I had a sausage egg and cheese biscuit, it was ok the staff was real friendly. Place was clean and the assortment of bake goods was great. Quiet nice spot . I can tell this is a spot for regulars. Had that "cheers" vibe Norm !!!!!

Sweet Mama's is a St. Simons Island tradition. I was referred to this restaurant by one of my good friends whose wife's family is from St. Simons. The recommendation was spot-on because the food I tried was delicious. I visited on a Saturday morning and the restaurant received a steady stream of customers, mostly locals with a lot of take-out orders. The restaurant can be hard to find if you don't know where to look. It's in the Winn-Dixie shopping center and it faces away from the street, so you won't see the restaurant until you drive into the parking lot and explore a little. If the 1627 Frederica Road address doesn't work for you, try 98 Retreat Plaza. This is a simple, casual, no frills restaurant. There isn't much to speak of when it comes to atmosphere or ambiance. The interior amounts to a single office-like, strip mall space with a glass display case for baked goods and pastries, an ordering/food prep counter, and a bunch of easily movable small tables in the dining area. Sweet Mama's is only open for breakfast and lunch, Monday-Saturday, 6:45am to 2:30pm. The menu consists of sandwiches (breakfast and lunch), muffins, buns, danishes, doughnuts, bagels, cookies, and cakes. They also have salads, a soup of the day, and housemade chili. Expect to spend anywhere from $2.50 to $4.50 for most breakfast items and $6.50 to $9.50 for most lunch items. I had a "Meat, Cheese & Egg Biscuit" ($4.50) and some Pork Pops ($0.60 each). The meat, cheese, and egg biscuit consisted of a flaky biscuit with a round sausage patty, a thin slice of cheese, and a thick egg patty. The egg wasn't prepared in typical egg breakfast sandwich fashion. It looked steamed (or something). The sandwich was fresh, delicious, and filling. The sausage meat was savory and the egg was light and fluffy. The Pork Pops are a Sweet Mama's signature item. They are small, almost bite-sized pieces of bread, sausage, bacon, and cheese. I saw customers ordering this by the boat load. Well, maybe not boat load, but plate load. 12 pops here, 12 pops there. They were tasty and addictive. At one point, the kitchen ran out of pops. I noticed some of the foods were reheated in a microwave prior to serving. Service is, for the most part, efficient. You pick up your order at the counter no matter if dining in or taking out. If on St. Simons Island, I recommend this joint.

Our trip to St Simons would not have been complete without a stop at Sweet Mamas. The food was delicious. A nice hearty biscuit complete with butter and the fixings started us off. The Pork pops are what drew us there and they did not disappoint!!! Really delicious!!! But the topper to it all was the sweets. The cheese danish was amazing and the sticky buns were so good we couldn't stop at one. . Very delightful place. We will be back!!!

Sweet Mama's has great small town vibes. The sweets are tasty and look homemade. AMANDA WAS THE SWEETEST! She was so intentional with her service and deserves a raise;) pax et bonum

We bought a few sammies: chicken salad was great, roast beef was delicious, pimento cheese was okay but could've benefited from something crunchy, and the turkey one was pretty good (we ordered a ham; this was labeled H but was actually turkey). Their selection of beverages was also great, clearly in line with what beach goers would want/need. Girl behind the counter was super sweet and helpful. We loved her. So why the four star review? There was a gentleman who was either the owner or manager. We asked about covid regulations and not only was he unfamiliar with local, state, or federal regulations, he seemed to not care in the slightest. (Cue a nonchalant shrug, arrogant smirk, and a "I dunno," as though it's preposterous that a patron may be curious as to policy during a pandemic.) He also was not wearing a mask, despite the girl at the counter wearing one the entire time. In sum, great concept with a fantastic clerk....but the leadership needs some work.

There were some great options which made choosing difficult, but we tried the biscuits and gravy (go ahead - get 2 biscuits!) and the fried chicken and biscuit. Both were great! The sandwich wasn't huge so it was a perfect amount for breakfast. We sat inside - it's very cute - with a market and to go as well as the tables. Food comes up fast and is really reasonably priced! The chicken was perfectly fried - not greasy - and the hot honey was a nice touch (and thankfully, not too hot). Good bathrooms and lots of tasty looking items in the refrigerated cases (including various types of seafood to cook).

I decided on a grits bowl . I was shocked at ghe size of the bowl when it was delivered a short while later. Huge is an understatement. The grits were well done, the bacon plentiful and lots of cheese. I could only finish about half of it. Really nice dish I will get again. There's not a lot of tables, and it would be hard for a large group but even if you have to wait for a table, it is worth the wait! I will return!

We sat at the bar but learned the Tuesday special was a flight of three bartender choice wines 2 oz pours for $15. Evidently the Wine tasting thing was not current. We've seen many restaurants don't update their web site so it's always a gamble when you show up. Not sure if it was an open table thing or the restaurant. Either way we enjoy wine so my wife ordered a red flight and I ordered a $6 happy hour Italian Pinot Noir. The Pinot was fine and decent pour and my wife sampled the flight. One of the wines was a little off and we both thought it may have soured. She mentioned it to the bartender and he shrugged it off and said it wasn't an old bottle. Mentioned it again and no big deal. Might have been nice to at least offer something else. I'd recommend ordering a glass of what you like rather than waste the $15. For dinner I wanted to try the seared pork ribeye but they were out of stock so I settled for the short rib sandwich on ciabatta bread. My wife ordered the beet and goat cheese salad which she enjoyed and thought was fine. The short rib sandwich was tasty enough but the bread was soft like it came out of a plastic bag. I was hoping for a better quality bread which is important for a sandwich. It wasn't something I would order again. Overall it's a really quaint place with isles of olive oil and items to purchase but the experience was a 2.0 and the food average 3.0 at best. I really expected a bit more especially from the look and feel of the place. Not sure I could get around to wanting to go back to try anything else on the menu. Bartender was nice but overall just not a good experience after a long day of work. I feel bad to leave an unsatisfactory score but I upped my 2.0 to 3.0 as ratings are important and it's probably at least a 3.0.
