Everyday we hiked, we talked about a dessert we had earned, then we'd laugh because there wasn't any around to be easily had. But I knew.... Leaving the park and heading into Three Rivers, there stood an adorable red and white "chalet" of delights where we could have some ice cream next to the dancing waters of the Kaweah River. We entered the ice cream shop, the furthest to the right when viewed from Hwy 198(Sierra Dr.), and were immediately hit with the aroma of their freshly made waffle cones and bowls. After reviewing their in-house made ice cream flavors, my friend opted for Blueberry Pomegranate Gelato and Three Rivers Wild Blackberry in a waffle bowl and I chose the Wild Blackberry and Raspberry Cheesecake for my waffle bowl. We made our way through the gift shop, the furthest building to the left, and out to sit on the covered deck, where 2 red Adirondack chairs waited for us. For me, enjoying an ice cream treat whilst sitting on the back deck overlooking the river is a part of visiting Sequoia. Reimer's opened this flagship location in 1956 and it's a special place where hand made confections, created with the finest ingredients and proudly displayed, are offered alongside delicious ice cream, sherbet and gelato, with seasonal flavors highlighting local fruits, like our wild blackberry this day. The gift shop carries some local items featuring Sierra motifs, in case you need one last souvenir from your trip. Sparkling ornaments and decorations are available all year and add to the happy and festive nature of this classic gem of a roadside stop. The ice cream hit the spot, but the waffle bowl is a true standout. I don't know the secret recipe, but notes of vanilla hit my nose and hints of cinnamon danced on my tongue. SO good! Until next time, Reimer's.... Cheers! "CC"

But luckily we were able to visit finally. When we entered, we were greeted by an employee behind the counter. As we browsed through the store, eventually another employee manned the cash register. This employee had told us that they currently have some specials going on, which included some of their yogurt covered flavored raisins $3, in addition to the dark chocolate covered raisins bag for $3 (funny enough, I already had that bag in my hand, planning on purchasing when she said that). I ended up purchasing: Dark chocolate covered raisins- As I have gotten older, I have grown to appreciate the flavor of dark chocolate (before I really only liked milk chocolate and semi- sweet chocolate). But I actually have not tried this yet but getting this at $3 (prior to tax) is a steal. Vanilla yogurt dipped covered raisins- This container was also only $3. My husband and I really liked the raisins and actually made a snack mix of this with added nuts and edamame that I brought with us on our road trip. The added sweetness from these yogurt dipped raisins was very nice. Strawberry yogurt dipped covered raisins- Also got this container for $3 and did the same thing with the vanilla yogurt dipped covered raisins and added it to another snack mix with nuts and edamame. I actually liked the strawberry yogurt dipped covered raisins a little more than the vanilla yogurt dipped ones. Mini vanilla yogurt dipped covered raisins, box of 10 individual bags- My husband thought this would be good to have some ready to grab yogurt dipped raisins to have on hand for our road trip. The taste just like the other vanilla yogurt dipped covered raisins but just in a smaller portion. ------------------------------- (Total= $13.61 after tax and current special) After I paid and was offered to have my items placed on a bag, I was asked by an employee if I wanted a poster map. I said sure. If you like all things raisins, then this is a nice little store to visit. They also sell nuts and dried fruit (apricots and figs for example). They also sell Sun-Maid shirts and other memorabilia. Customer service was friendly and I would come back the next time I pass by (as long as it is during their operating hours). Please note that there are no restrooms here but around the corner is the visitor center. However during our visit, the visitor center was closed. But you can see the world's largest box of raisins around the corner and also a large mural cut out of the famous Sun-Maid mascot.

Anyhow, my Son and I finished up our work business day in Selma early, and I suggested this shop though neither of us had been before. Really cool multi-colored decode in the Mexican manner. Bright and cheery. YUGE selection of ice creams and sorbets as well's as paletas (I think)/bars. Also many other Mexican style treats. We hot single scoops each and enjoyed them. I mistakenly ordered the mango. Discovered it was a sorbet/ice instead of ice cream but it was cooling and refreshing with good mango flavor. Son had Walnut ice cream and said it was good. Both scoops together were $7.50. About in line with the 30+ Flavors folks. Some flavors were not familiar to me (will try one of those next time). Only "complaint" was the labels on the glass in front of the buckets were very small. This place is a quiet browsing spot, you don't really have workers asking you often if you need help, which is great for my fellow introverted people. Parking is pretty crazy though, there's a tiny parking lot on the one way street before getting to the building but since there are other local businesses right next to the store the parking gets pretty full most of the time. Grab a coffee across the street and browse, you can easily blow through 2 hours just looking at everything they have to offer. Since a lot of the goods are imported I would personally say the average cost of something would be around $22, so if you are planning on splurging make sure to save a little bit (or else you'll get torn between choosing what to buy, like I have done before ) The environment is also very communal, having a trinket trading box outside of their storefront (not owned by Sour Milk but heavily appreciated) AND a Sonny Angel/ Smiski trading station, and also vending art created by local Fresno artists!
