Yesterday, I had the chance to pick up lunch at Las Montaneras Bakery. The beef empanadas were maybe the best I've had in town. Quite large and stuffed with beef and potato, they were excellent, especially with the hot sauce. I also had the star shaped strawberry pastry which was good, but next time I need to try the Pan de Bono to compare with other places. Today, I stopped in at Ohh Que Rico Colombian bakery for the first time. This is a really nice bakery right on Blackwell Street. Whether it's hot food or bakery items, everything is right there in display cases. I got takeout, but there are tables to sit at also. I ordered a couple of beef empanadas, Pan de Bono, and a cup of coffee. Everything was delicious! The empanadas with the spicy sauce were very good, but the stars of the show for me were the coffee and Pan de Bono. The Colombian coffee with steamed milk is just so good! I ordered the butterfly tea, and it was perfection; light, fragrant, and just the right amount of sweetness. My husband had a coffee and gave it his full approval, which says a lot since we're used to bringing back premium coffee beans and chocolate from Cartagena, Colombia during his business trips. So yes, our taste buds are very spoiled. Our daughter was the only one who got her hands on the chocolate Bar we purchased, and let's just say... she devoured it within the day. Her exact words? "Best chocolate I've ever had." So yeah, that bar never stood a chance. While waiting for our drinks, we were treated to samples; mango lassi and lentil soup, both incredibly delicious and culturally authentic.
