Lola and her team were exceptional with the Chinese details. Our loved one was living in Quincy, but her roots were in Brighton. We appreciate that Lola and Hamel were able to secure the use of a Newton/Brighton funeral home. This venue allowed elderly friends to pay respects locally. Lola and her team had every detail covered. The amenities and services provided to our loved one and our visitors made the experience exceptional at this time of sorrow. Chinese snacks and refreshments were provided for the day. The car service and police detail were excellent. Hamel did their due diligence by driving out to the cemetery and our funeral route in preparation for the day of the funeral. Lola also dealt with the cemetery and the florist on behalf of our family. At the funeral, Lola explained both in Chinese and English for our visitors the particulars of the day. We were extremely pleased with Hamel and would highly recommend them, but especially their Asian services.

Our family lives in Newton and made a hasty decision regarding a different local funeral home as our grandmother passed in the middle of the night. This other funeral home we chose did not have any guidance to offer regarding transportation of cremains to China and so we called Hamel Lydon. Though we did not conduct funeral services or cremation through them, they were extremely kind and helpful regarding next steps for our family and even reached out to this other funeral home to help coordinate. This process is never easy but it was a relief to speak with someone who was well versed and willing to help.

The most unprofessional funeral service I have ever witnessed!…read more Did not introduce the deacon at the service. The casket was not closed and the funeral Director called the deceased 's husband to the front of the room to discuss charges that they forgot to bill - to open the Grave for an additional cost of $5,000. They locked their keys in the limo and announced to the family in front of everyone that they needed to get their own ride to the cemetery. The funeral procession was taken on the highway when there was a direct back route. They were going too fast and it was diifficult to keep up. The casket was filthy, dinged up and faded. And finally they are supposed to wait for the guests to leave the cemetery and the casket placed in the ground before the funeral limo leaves the cemetery . They took off before anyone else. Unprofessional entity who does not know ethics or manners.

I can't leave a review without at least one star. You do not deserve it. Thanks for terrible…read moreservice. My family has been through numerous funerals at the Mortimer Peck Funeral Home. Yesterday, we buried my 94 year old father. For many reasons, our family will never use their services again. Russ Peck, you were an offensive, vile man who has no right to be dealing with grieving families, and despite our family requesting that you no longer be a part of it, you had to speak?! We did not care that you lost your father 3 years ago or that you knew my uncle, but not so much my father. You stated that he attended a college that my mother attended and were the most uncouth man by the way you spoke to my sisters. How dare you insert yourself into this when specifically asked to walk away. This is not over. Official complaints will be made. How dare you.

In 1854 when Hancock Cemetery in the center of the town had been filled to near capacity, a committee was formed at a town meeting to determine the site of a new burial ground. The committee chose a plot of land in the town farm, which had been donated by William Coddington and was located just west of the site of Quincy's founding spot, Mount Wollaston. The first two plots were ceremoniously purchased on May 5, 1856 by Charles Francis Adams, Sr., prominent attorney and son of the late former President of the United States, John Quincy Adams. An area known as the Veterans Section, located at the main Sea Street entrance to the cemetery, features several monuments honoring members of the military. The Civil War Monument, dedicated June 25, 1868, features a large granite monument surrounded by four period cannons. Other memorials include a Spanish-American War Memorial, World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Memorials and statuary monuments dedicated to the city's firemen and policemen. Notable burials include several Congressmen and politicians as well as Ralph Talbot (1897-1918), first United States Marine Corps aviator to be awarded the Medal of Honor. The cemetery is in excellent condition, well mowed and maintained. It's an easy walk and there are a few shade trees throughout. [Review 15225 overall, 727 of 2021, number 1087 in Massachusetts.]
