Been going now for a month and as such felt they deserved a more in-depth review. There are tons of…read moreCrossfit gyms in Downtown area now, here's why I decided on, and prefer RiNo: 1. Huge space with dedicated weightlifting and crossfit areas, as well as a huge outdoor space. The space is only getting better as they continue to build it out but it's huge, pretty clean, and bright and welcoming with the green color scheme. Also has a Garage door adding much-needed light and access to the huge outdoor area. 2. Despite the hassle, they're dog-friendly. May or may not be a plus for you but it's great for my wife and I to walk the dog(s) over and allow them to get some people time in the outdoor space, or even the dedicated dog run area to keep things civil. 3. Location and parking. We live in Cole and it's a short walk or bike ride over which we love. There's also (currently) tons of parking despite the area blowing up. It's also right next to Zeppelin Station and Great Divide if you want an after-workout coffee, food or beers. The location is also pretty nice for the workouts that include outdoor running-- Being a block off of Brighton it's surprisingly quiet, with wide streets and decent lighting courtesy of Zeppelin. Way better than some other "boxes" in the downtown area. 4. Staff and culture -- While they're growing their membership, everyone I've come into contact there is absolutely wonderful, staff or members. Don't get me wrong, you're going to get pushed and there are some really fit people (including the two co-managers Bailey and Ryan) but there's no douchebaggery here. Just fun, supportive people. 5. Programming -- This is extremely personal but I personally like the way RiNo programs-- Likely because it's what I "grew up with" at York Street Crossfit, but it works for me-- An early skill/strength portion to work on some basics, followed by the hallowed (reviled?) WOD at the end. You get a good 45 minutes to an hour of activity with every class which is just perfect for me. If you're looking at functional fitness and/or crossfit gyms in the area, you owe yourself a visit to RiNo.

The instructors (Ryan and Cory) were welcoming to this newcomer and every day is different, so it was easy to jump in despite not being a regular. Each class involved multiple rounds of exercises targeting different body parts of the body utilizing free weights, body weight, other equipment like jump ropes and steps, and lots of cardio. It's not easy, but the classes really fly by! The instructors were motivating throughout and blasted music to keep up the energy. I went early in the morning and street parking was easy to find outside. They have some cubbies to put your stuff, as well as a water fountain, but don't expect too many other amenities like towels or showers.

So here's what up: 45-60 minute HARD AF full body workouts. They have lots of class offerings throughout the day, and you never quite know what you're gonna get. It's a mix of lifting/body weight/HIIT that'll leave you tired and sore and full of endorphins. They have a great, small group of dedicated teachers who are super motivating--I've taken classes from Cory, Jillian, Ryan, Brooke, and Scott and loved them all. I come here about three times a week now and always leave exhausted (in a good way!). As I mentioned, I was giving ClassPass a try but am now a member at Pearl Street. They have an awesome $99 unlimited class deal if you're able to make midday weekday classes, plus some other pricing and drop in options. By far my favorite workout in Denver!!

My friend got targeted by a BOGO Instagram ad because working out is apparently all we ever do in Denver, so we decided to check out the location in Cherry Creek. I tried to be as prepared as possible, reading the FAQs on their website and purchasing my own boxing wraps from Amazon. Probably should have just gotten the glove wraps that are WAY easier to put on. Parking in this part of Cherry Creek is not too bad. Plenty of street spots a few blocks away. Rumble has boxing glove rentals for $3 and their front desk staff is always super friendly and helpful. They're on top of trying to sell memberships to everyone! Classes are constantly full and upbeat. It's just too loud to hear what the instructors are actually telling me to do, and depending on where you're stationed in the room, it's nearly impossible to see the visuals on the screen. There's two sets of rotations between the boxing bag and weights. Good variety of movement and music to keep everyone engaged. Overall I'm super glad I tried Rumble Boxing. They do a great job trying to curate a specific experience. It's just not for me. The environment and type of workout is a little too chaotic, and it's hard to understand what's going on. They seem to be doing well as a business, and I totally support anyone whose regular thing this is!

I kept driving by Base 6 and decided to give them a-go since I like HIIT classes and I workout better in group classes than alone. It's been almost a year since I've been going to Base 6. The classes offer a lot of variety. You are able to push yourself as much as you want or take it easy if you're having an off-day. I am probably one of the least coordinated people and I never feel embarrassed when the entire class is working out on their left side and I'm on my right b/c I can't follow direction. The coaches are very knowledgeable regarding the exercises and correct your form when needed. They also try to push me but know when to back off when I give them the stank eye. The class formats can sometimes be a little hard to follow, but the coaches offer great direction and explanation of the format. The owner, Brian, does a good job keeping the routine engaging and fun. There are always themed classes around the holidays and group challenges. There are familiar faces any time I show up to work out which makes you feel like a small part of a community. Even if you're afraid of HIIT- like classes, give them a shot, you may enjoy it.

I was coming off a knee injury, had a handful of other aches and pains, and felt like my training (which I had been doing consistently for years), had started to plateau. Working with Angelo has been a game changer, and the depth of his fitness and coaching knowledge is absurd. Simply put, I've made measurable, significant gains in every area of my fitness. While I don't work directly with the other coaches or attend the classes (I use the open gym for the individual training plan Angelo writes for me) everyone on staff is friendly, helpful, and most importantly incredibly knowledgeable. There's no attitude here, just the expectation that you'll show up and work hard. Additionally - I've had multiple sessions with Liliana at EDX Bodyworks (the attached sports therapy clinic) - and she's a wizard, it's a great resource to have on hand for when tweaks and injuries pop up. I've been a member of probably 6 or 7 gyms, this is the best one yet, my membership will end when Angelo and Liliana decide to retire. No matter your fitness level, if you're serious about getting in shape do yourself a favor and give the EDX community a shot.
