This is a great library because of the staff and volunteers. Hands down, they make this place great. They breath life into the aisles and shelves. Let's count the ways: 1. Awesome CD collection - Ok. I get it. CDs are dying and downloads are rising. I am a raving fan of Spodify but not all my bands are on it. So there are some CDs I need to get to upload to iTunes. SPL helps me. 2.) Spectacular DVD section - another thing that has gone the way of streaming but most everyone still has a DVD player. They offer a nice taste of everything: foreign, documentary, independent and major studio. There's a nominal fee required but it's a pittance compared to the theaters. 3.) The Shelves - they do a nice job stocking books I enjoy reading in subjects that I'm passionate about 4.) The Delaware County Library System - I can request books and CDs from other libraries if Swarthmore doesn't stock it. And they are usually delivered quickly. Their website and ordering process is great. 5.) Their sales - used books, CDs, DVDs and delicious baked goods. Worth seeking them out! read more

I wish the children's section had more things to keep the interest of children. But other wise I go to this place often because it's one of the few libraries that open before 10AM. I wish more of the libraries opened earlier. It's also a bonus that this is within walking distance of the swarthmore tot lot. Although the tot lot could use a bit more landscape maintenance. read more

Right now one of the main thoroughfares, rte 320, is under construction just south of the Swarthmore Train station to our in a traffic rotary to accommodate the new Swarthmore College Inn that is in the works. read more

Can't believe there are such good reviews here! The workers here have been incredibly rude to my mother on several different occasions. It doesn't cost anything to be nice to people. Not sure why the librarians are so high and mighty and unwilling to help others. Really sad because my mom loves libraries and loves the selection of items they have here, but is always treated badly so she doesn't like to come :( Try a different library in the Delco library system if you're looking for a friendlier experience. read more

As far as local libraries go, Swarthmore has it set. Unexpectedly, this library is one of the most up to date and active ones I've ever experienced in a small suburb. 1. They have the most recent DVD releases. This is big. $1 for 3 days for the Life of Pi? Heck yeah. This is a better deal than you will find in any other company, anywhere (redbox). 2. They have many new CD releases. Nuff said. 3. The librarians are old ladies volunteering. Totally quaint, and very nice. Never hesitated to answer a question I had. 4. Their online offerings are pretty on par with that of even the Free Library of Philadelphia. They have access to magazines, newspapers, and many other online treasures. In terms of size-to-offering ratio, Swarthmore library is the most feature-packed library I've ever seen. You go! read more

Came in to this library to use the computer but was told because I owe $15 in fines from 5 years ago I cannot use the computer. The woman kept saying " well pay the fine". And my response was, " if I could I would don't you think". Just plain mean! I will not go back there ever again! Very un welcoming read more
