When you step into this shop that's been around for over twenty years, you might be a bit surprised…read moreto see the old porcelain items and gift ware, the old casio and Seiko watches or the old jewellery that line the shelves, most of which seem like they're out of the 90s, but these are the items that make this store special. The fact that you have to ring the bell outside in order to enter and once you're in you have a group of elderly ladies and men chatting in the back of the shop, makes you feel like this is what's missing in most department stores, that homely feel where you know the person running the store isn't too concerned about selling you the newest ipod or about getting you in and out so they can serve the next customer as quick as possible. I usually go into this every couple of years for a replacement battery, that they usually charge about $8 for, but I also looking at the other items like the silver and gold digital casio watches, that are now becoming retro. The only difference is here the prices haven't been hiked up just cause they're in fashion.

Previously known as India Fox (a name I adored), Tree of Life is a store I love visiting, even if…read moreit's just to window shop. Simply put; they have everything you need in order to look ethnic, besides a tanning booth. Kaftans, flowing skirts, loose blouses, loose, baggy pants, colourful bracelets, patchwork totes (aka jholas), shawls, wraps, scarves... if it's found in South East Asia, it'll probably be here, at a (relatively) affordable price. They also stock some of the most beautiful silver jewellery I have ever seen. Sadly though, this jewellery is a bit on the expensive side. Around $30 for a pair of earrings, for example. Still. A girl can dream. *wistful sigh, nose pressed against the shop window*

To the lovely Claudia who assisted me, I am beyond thrilled with my engagement ring! It's taken me…read moreso long to find just the right size, color, and design to fit with my plain gold wedding band (we bought our wedding rings first, funny enough). Upon entering the shop area, I was taken aback by just how delicate and beautiful all of the items were. So cute, so precious. All of the glittering treasures distracted me for quite a while. I couldn't help but look at every item on display. I knew instantly that I would find what I had in mind. I was searching for something simple and classic yet not quite the norm. There was no question that I'd end up with an emerald (considering that my last name will soon be 'Green'), but just a matter of whether or not there would be a jeweler that had decent emerald rings with yellow gold bands rather than silver. More often than not, if a location did have rings that met those standards, the rings seemed somewhat cheap-looking. Stone too big, setting too strange, dull gold, etc. To top it off, I have large knuckles and rather bony fingers to consider, making ring sizing a major issue. Not only did Claudia give me an accurate ring sizing, she let me try on the ring that caught my eye, along with one of the plain gold wedding bands on display to mimic how my wedding band would fit beside it (we had ordered our wedding rings but they wouldn't arrive until later in the month). She gave me her honest opinions and was incredibly patient, explaining the processes of care plans and resizing within the business, as the ring only came in larger sizes and would have to be made from scratch to fit my finger. I was given a strikingly accurate wait time for when my specially made ring would arrive, and only just picked it up. It was late evening when we left the shop, and the setting sun provided a stunning warm light which made the emerald glow nicely. I shall definitely be returning for more jewelry in the future!

Personally, I am in romantic love with Magnolia's jewelry. No lie, I would marry this company if it…read morewould have me. They have such variety, such craftsmanship, and such creativity, it damn near boggles the mind. Whether you like chunky, or dainty, I'm pretty sure they have it all. Whether monotonous, or multi-coloured, solid or fragile, you'll find what you're looking for, if you're anything like me. Magnolia predominantly features silver jewelry (as the name might have suggested), and it can get quite pricey. Which is why it's a great place to go if you want to get a present for any female you know! The only problem; they're horribly stingy with the tiny little silicon earring-stoppers (is what I call the rubber backings of earrings so that they don't fall out). They charge $3 a pair! For the tiny little silicone things that probably cost 1 cent to make! It's a little ridonkulous. I mean, do you even know how easy those little suckers are to lose? You keep 'em on your desk for a second while you put your earring in... and if you happened to breathe in its general direction, it has now rolled off and entered your carpet, never to be found again. If I was made to spend $3 every time I lost some of these, I'd... like... be really broke. If you, unlike me, are able to keep possession of these earring-stoppers for more than 24 hours without losing them, you probably won't have a problem with Magnolia. And you should also probably lend me some earring-stoppers.
