Second time here and this time I wasn't as impressed. I got a bacon cheeseburger with fries and they were both good, but not the best. One thing that did impress was the fried pickle spears! Amazing with ranch! If you like dill pickles, I definitely recommend. Our service was good and ambience was fine. I think under new ownership.... Went about 6 months- 1 year ago- service and food great. Went yesterday and meh. Not busy and took almost 1.5 hr for a burger and fish fry. Burger was not even close to being as good as the prior visit. Maybe they are trying to figure it out with new ownership but I won't be around to find out. read more

I keep giving them 2nd chances but today was the last for me. The coffee was cold. Then the food came out, also cold. You will usually have to wait way too long for your food. The server, although really nice, never came back to refill drinks. And good luck getting your bill when you're done. For the prices they charge it was not good. Mattie our server was the nicest young lady who recommended the Brosted pork chop special for lunch. That came with farmers potatoes (fried potatoes with onions and peppers), and a salad and rolls. Everything was delicious right down to the hot buttered rolls. The ambiance is that of an old Irish pub with lots of primitive memorabilia around the walls. We stopped here on a busy day in this town. When we arrived the place on the main side was half full . We had a seat and I had to try their burger. Tons of choices for different burgers. If you like burgers you will find one that you will enjoy. I ordered the quarter pounder instead of the half pounder. My only complaint was that the bun was twice the size of the burger. The bun was meant for the bigger burger, but both were good nonetheless. Perhaps a different size bun for the small burger. The other order was a sandwich and was good. The appetizers were good. The waitress was friendly and quickly brought us drinks and took our order. I ordered the western burger, being the burger enthusiast that I am, I expect great things. I'm very strict with my burger criticism and what goes down the ole hatch. The cute girl ordered the bacon cheeseburger. We both got beer battered fries with our order with honey mustard to boot. That combo is god tier! The food came quick as it wasn't too packed yet with people. The burger looked gorgeous, head to toe deliciousness, alluring to the eye with an accompaniment of beer battered potato goodness. The burger was fresh and the toppings not overwhelming but combined together equaled a fantastic and unforgettable meal. The bun was soft like a mother's touch, hypnotic to the point of ecstasy. The fries were in abundance and the honey mustard sauce was a naughty little combo. It's important to note the cute girl and I are both root beer snobs. That was our drink of choice for the night and it was incredibly tasty. We finished our meals and ordered two peanut butter cakes to go. Let me tell, if you've never felt the tender touch of someone's loving embrace, than this is the cake for you. She's a thicc girl but don't let her intimidate you, she's the one and you know that tonight is the night. The frosting flirts with you seductively edging you closer with each bite. Swany's is the best bar in Saint Johns. The old woodwork is beautiful and the staff is great. If you really want a "bar" experience go to Swany's. And as I've stated before, the Olive Burger is better than any I have found in the Mid-Michigan area. read more

This place is the best in Saint Johns to get some quality food. This pub has a bar, but not that dive bar feeling. There is nice woodworking and renovated bathrooms. Around lunch and dinner times, this place is packed, and for good reason. I have eaten here dozens of times, and have never had anything I haven't loved. From fresh soups, salads and sandwiches, to the expected bar food of fried everything and burgers. The buns are from a bakery and the meat is all top quality, locally raised. The owner is a St. Johns native and takes pride in the quality of her business. This is a place people of all ages come to get good food, play pool or watch the game with friends. FACT: Swany's offers the best burger in town. In addition, they have a variety of homemade soups on a menu that changes regularly. When chili is available, try the chili cheese fries - they're killer! Great place to grab a bite and a brew. While it's far from a gourmet experience, it's obvious that the owner and staff take pride in the quality and careful preparation of their menu's offerings.
