I love Kettleshulme and the surrounding area, it's such beautiful scenery and walking country. Recently I also visited the plant nursery David G Ross for the first time - it's right across from the Swan Inn and I think most gardeners would enjoy a browse.
The Swan Inn is a cosy old pub that has a nice dining room extension. The menu looked great, it was a struggle to decide, but in the end we shared a baked camembert to start (obviously delicious) and then I had the bouillabaisse and my husband had the zarzuela (a Spanish seafood stew, with rice in it). Although these dishes were expensive the amount of seafood involved was really generous and they were both fantastic. The zarzuela was particularly stunning - rich and satisfying, I finished what my husband couldn't. In fact a whole bowl might have been too much for me too, but the creamy, cheesy saltiness was just perfect comfort food. I hope they have it available next time we go, but I'd also be intrigued to try one of their meat dishes or roasted fish given they have a fancy Josper charcoal oven
Staff and other punters were really friendly and the whole place had a good vibe. There was apparently a delicious tea based cocktail on the menu - hope to try it soon! There's Aspall cider on tap too, which goes well with the seafood. read more
