What I have sampled here and do on a fairly regular basis are their freshly made juices in a hole in the wall right in front of the store. You can pretty much take your pick from all the veggies and fruits they have on offer. They are made right in front of you and are really tasty too. This is one of the only things I have found in Oz that is cheaper than the states. Fresh cheap juice! Tara who usually juices on the weekends when I come in is always smiling and is friendly. Come in to get good hummus for cheap and a large selection of nuts. Also when Woolys across the street is selling $4 avocados come here for $1 avocados.

Customer Service: They don't really speak English. So if you don't speak Mandarin, Cantonese, or Vietnamese you're probably out of luck and won't be getting any service whatsoever. Go in knowing exactly what you want to avoid horrors. I should note that even if you CAN speak one of those languages, they still aren't very friendly. I asked a man in Cantonese if he knew where to find Hoisin Sauce and he said "sauces are over there. Just look yourself!" Minh Phat gives you decent prices as well. You can find cheaper elsewhere, but when it comes to a huge store where everything you'll need is in one place, it's still worth the few cents extra. Overall, I would definitely recommend Minh Phat for your Asian grocery shopping. It's large and spacious, the prices are cheap, and it's never that crowded. I'm a bit of noob when it comes to groceries, plus I'm lazy, which means I end up buying everything from the supermarket and never know what 'really good produce' tastes like. Thanks to Toscano's, I now do and I will never turn back. All the fruit you can imagine and all the vegetables in the world are stocked here (well, pretty much), and all for very, VERY cheap. The answer is yes, and this place. As far as asian grocers go, it's one of my favourites. They have a great selection of product, are reasonably priced and they have a large fridge section with a great choice of tofu, dumplings and thick rice noodles that are awesome in stir fries. I occasionally buy a few vegies here too. The range isn't huge but it's cheap and reliable. I come here all the time for all my sauce, noodle and novelty-size sambal needs.

Although a small store they provide the 'necessities' for a gourmet quick meal. I found the prices to be very good for a store of this type. Yes, you are going to pay $45 a kg for meat but, prices appear to be about 10% cheaper than gourmet grocers like Broadbean, Passion Foods and Essential Ingredient. Gum Tree is a great one stop shop for the time poor local resident who can make it to South Melbourne Market, with the added bonus of Toby's Estate coffee served while you shop. All very civilised :)
