Sydney Road holds many places to eat and drink. One fabulous thing in particular that it offer is bean. And not just a single serving of beans, beans in a can. And not just beans in a can, but a palette of beans in a can. And not just a palette of beans in a can, but slabs of palettes of beans in a can. That's right, the Mediterranean wholesalers is your place for slabs of palette of tins of stuff. All manner of tinned Italian vegetables can be found here - from chilies to chick peas to tomatoes to asparagus. To the back you find a deli dedicated to cheese and preserved meats. I have never seen so many cuts of meat and sausages in my life. And if you hang around long enough you can sample some cheese. The second half of the store is dedicated to the stove top coffee makers that we find some magical and other cookware, along with chocolates and treats!!! All of it so magical, and better, all of it so cheap!

Whoa, this place is huge! And very, very awesome. It is in fact the largest supplier of Mediterranean food. They have an impressive range of cheeses, everything from Parmigiano Reggiano (the king of Parmesan cheese) to Halloumi. And if you're looking for the perfect cheese to make saganaki, yep you'll find it here too. The coffee section is enough to give you head spins, or keep you up all night if, like me, you try to test as many as you can in one day. By the way, if you're gonna stock up on coffee then you have to pair it up with some of those cakes and pastries from Italy, like Siena cakes, biscotti, and even some bread sticks. The deli section features many special Italian meats, sausages and other bits and pieces that would make an impressive antipasto. Basically the general rule is if they don't have it here, then you don't want it. Expect to spend a lot of time at the Mediterranean wholesaler, not only because there are rows upon rows of merchandise to oo-and-ah over, but also because there's a café and bakery onsite. Yes, these guys have thought of everything.

Now, it can be a little confusing for a newbie so let me help you out. Upon entry, head straight to the back and ask for a plate with the lot. The staff will ask you about your dietary requirements or if there's anything you don't like and then they work their magic. Expect a giant plate of salad, haloumi, falafel, rice, tabouli and all sorts of other deliciousness that will keep you full until next Saturday. Their food is so flavoursome that their are frequent "Oh God, this is so good" heard mumbled between mouthfuls. In the words of Molly Meldrum, do yourself a favour and get there ASAP.

Moroccan Deli-cacy similar to its name sake has a slightly chaotic vibrancy, with relaxed friendly service. The cafe used to be an old nut shop and alongside tagines there are spices and raw ingredients for sale. There is a spoken menu and dishes are constantly changing. I ordered the second of the two options offered (the other was a tagine with cous cous), going with the mixed plate. My coffee was short, black and delicious, it even arrived with a sweet on the side. The food was amazing! Bread with zaatar, hummus, garden salad, pickled vegetables, fried haloumi, falafel. It tasted home made with love .. like you'd been lucky enough to be invited into someone's home and their Aunt and Grandma were cooking. Exotic, colourful, fresh, vibrant .. I used the chips to scoop up the cous cous. Just like a visit to Marrakech this cafe is unexpected and wonderful, it will leave you wanting to return .. a real neighbourhood gem. Newspapers - no Music - low and trance like. Space is not quiet given there's plenty of people plus lots of hard surfaces but you can still chat easily.
