Will did an amazing job with my hair. I was an unusual client since I am a woman and my gender is…read morefully woman. Having had 4 children, and loving it. My need for going to Will is cancer related for since my chemo treatments it has left me with extreme pain and dysautomia, full body neuropathy, so nerve pain in the entire body and my automatic system no longer works properly heart rate, blood pressure, etc. Due to this illness, and still having cancer, I had to have my hair cut really short because the weight of the hair and even lying my head on the pillow caused me much pain. I had tried to get my hair as short as I needed to be, but without looking unfeminine. However, the people I had gone to twice before Will, would not cut my hair in that short of a pixie, I think because my hair was pretty long before they did cut it in a rather long pixie-bob look, but still too much pain for me. I told Will what I wanted and he went straight to it. Will gave me the perfect haircut for my needs, though I do hope one day to be able to go longer again. That being said both the vintage style look , and appeal of Will's shop along with his two dogs, made an extremely difficult choice more bearable. The shop had a very nice, comfortable vibe, you feel totally at home while you're there, and Will is so easy to speak with. It turns out that my family had done business with Will's family when both of us were very young and it was wonderful being able to talk to him about those days when we used to visit WAUCONDA. The fact that Will could understand where I was coming from in my cancer issue , I don't feel it my place to say why, but he knows very well, the problems related with cancer.. thank you Will, for your kindness and dedication to your job regardless of who comes to your shop. I look forward to seeing you at the next trim!!

I've waited a full week since getting this haircut to let it properly mature before I judged it…read more Would it turn out like a LaBeouf or a DiCaprio? Only time would tell. Well, time has passed, and it's a... I don't know, Topher Grace? Maybe that's a bit too harsh. More like a Joshua Jackson. He gets the job done, and you know you've got some good feelings about him, but man, I was hoping for at least Josh Hartnett. Child-to-adult actors aside, it's a fine cut. I went in with a mop of hair and left with much less. It's all even, nothing was missed, and I know it's only compared to the length I arrived with that I feel like I left with it a little short. But you could chalk that up to me not effectively explaining what I wanted. Here's a fun fact about barbers: you're stuck sitting in that chair no matter where the conversation goes (you can't get up with one side done). And since you're there for a trim, the barber has no indication of whether you like sporting a tin foil cap. You might have colorful conversations here, is what I'm saying. But I'd rather have conversations than silence and stares. Only two chairs, but I called for an appointment and had no trouble getting one the same day. Not much for rustic barber decor, but that also means it's a lot cleaner looking than most barbers. Now, one key metric by which a barber is measured is the straight shave on the back of the neck. I got it, and it was good. But this was the first time I've ever had a straight razor taken to clean up the temples, moving what I'd probably give a solid three stars to up to at least a 3.5, and that being the case, rounding it up to a four. The price is right, it's close. I may be back, looking for an Elijah Wood or better.

Sports Clips has a somewhat unique setup, presumably to cater more toward the "outcome-oriented"…read moreman. To start, they do NOT take appointments; customers are seen purely on a walk-in basis. Sometimes, you will get lucky and there will be a hairdresser available right as you step in. Other times, they will be busy, take your name, and ask you to come back in X minutes. (I typically take advantage of the Walmart across the street to get some shopping in if this happens.) The first time I came here, the whole getup seemed a tad too impersonal for me. It's very time-oriented and efficient, with less emphasis on building the personal rapport I'm used to having. Don't get me wrong: the hair dressers are all wonderfully nice and friendly. It's just that there's no guarantee you'll get the same person one time to the next. At the same time, the prices for a man's haircut are some of the cheapest around - $16 regular and half price between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on weekdays. I also find it somewhat freeing to go in for a hair cut whenever I have time, as I don't have to worry about things coming up last minute like if I were to have an appointment. All and all, it's a trade-off of being personable for efficiency and cost. There's nothing right or wrong about it. You just have to decide for yourself if their "style" works for you.

Geannine was my stylist, and this time I did want to go a little shorter (key word, little.) I brought in pictures so there was no doubt about how short. Instead, my hair was butchered. My hair is short, so if I walk out of a salon with a cut that's too short, it's really no big deal, it will grow. But when one's hair is butchered, and cut so short, almost like a clipper cut with scissors, that there is NOTHING that can be done with it, the only option is to wait for it to grow out, it's disheartening, maddening and money NOT well spent. Every time I started to question what she was doing, she basically shushed me and told me not to worry. Do you ladies even LOOK at the photos your clients bring in?
