My first time in this beautiful theater! The theater is located on the first floor of The Symphony House building. It has a modern facade. The lobby is large with a sitting area, concession stand and coat racks. It was clean! The bathrooms were also clean. There were about 10 stalls but the line was still long. The staff were helpful in finding our seats. Picking up tickets at Will Call was easy. The theater has two levels. The seats were comfortable with some leg room. Sight lines were good as were acoustics. It was an enjoyable experience

I really enjoyed the Philadelphia Theatre Company and I'm so glad Yelp brought me here to experience an excellent theatrical experience. It was awesome to attend the opening night of the Pulitzer Prize winning stage play, "Sweat." I loved the set (really captured the essence of a neighborhood bar where regulars gather) and the acting was great. The plot was politically relevant and presented current social implications. The audio and lighting was good, and as far as I can presume, it seemed like there wasn't a seat in the theater that wasn't good and we sat in the mezzanine area. I also like the design leading into the theater. After the show, there were collations which added a nice touch to celebrate the opening night! After visiting a few theaters in Philadelphia, I'm glad to have visited here because I really would like to attend more shows!

Came here thanks to Yelp and had an amazing time with my guy friend who I've been dating for a few months. First time being at this theatre company but I enjoyed myself. When we first got our tickets we went to go find our seats- but noticed the seats weren't together so if we sat and watched it we'd be sitting away from each other which I wasn't going to be happy about since it was a date night for us. So my date mentioned maybe going back to see if we could get the seats switched so we are together. The staff were really friendly and helpful and ended up getting us seats on the 1st floor next to each other- and we had a seat where we could see everything up close. I was so happy they were very accommodating to us. As we walked in to give our tickets to the ushers, there was a bar and snack area to the left and they had live music playing. It was a really nice place, sorta fancy and was a mix crowd of people of all ages and races. We were helped to our seats and waited quite a bit of time for the show to start. The show was supposed to start at 7 but didn't start until about 20 minutes after 7, which I was a bit annoyed by- cause I was on a time crunch since I had a sitter for my daughter- but I soon was happy when the stage lit up and the acting begun. The story line and actors were great and I especially enjoyed the music- which to me was the best part of the show. They really pack you in the theatre- and you don't have much leg room on the bottom level which was a bit uncomfortable for me to sit in- but I was so glad there was an intermission that gave me a chance to stretch a bit until the last parts play. I really enjoyed this story and love that they used characters that are often overlooked in society and in films- the LGBTQ ‍ population. I loved seeing two women being able to express their love in a play- and seeing how they showed two scenes at once showing flashbacks about how different the world is now compared to that of the 1960's. If you are for equal rights of all people and especially for our LGBTQ people, I'd suggest seeing this play. There was some hot and steamy scenes of women kissing and touching, so if that isn't your cup of tea--- this isn't a show for you. Overall I enjoyed myself and I am happy and grateful that I had a chance to experience this show. Thanks Yelp! I didn't get a chance to stay after for the cocktail party, but I'm sure that was a good time as well.

This theatre is located right in the heart of beautiful downtown Philadelphia! The staff here are really nice. Everyone is friendly and there to help you out. Vince, Margo, and Matt are all very professional and they manage the teams to craft amazing experiences inside the theatre. I have the privilege of working with these teams weekly as we operate as a church location out of here on Sundays. The technology is all really nice- there has been a revamp to the sound system and they recently have a new projector which will take all of the shows and future movies to the next level. Keep love theatre and art alive, grab some tickets to the next production and head into this beautiful theatre to see a show! There is not a bad seat in the house so don't worry about sitting up in the balcony- it looks great from up there. Also, shout out to @epicchurch who meets in here every Sunday 10 & 11:30AM :) #shameless plug

Suzanne Robert's Theater is a good small and modern theater. Seats are comfy and there truly isn't a bad seat in the house. They have a nice little bar where you can purchase drinks and snacks and prices aren't exorbitant. Great place to see local and national plays at an affordable price.

Saw VENUS IN FUR (two-person play by David Ives), current offering. ****. Started off with a whimper. Finished with the bang. Mark Alhadeff (Thomas) ***. Jenni Putney (Vanda) ***. Re-acquainted with VENUS IN FUR literary saga and its 19th century author Sacher-Masoch. Aside: It's Roberts THEATRE, not as spelled by Yelp. Also is this Ives in any way, even remotely, related to David O. Ives, the WGBH-Boston impressario from long ago? Just wondering. -- Hotspur.

On a whim I booked tickets to see "Today is my Birthday" on preview for $20. I generally am down…read morefor a theater performance but I had never been here, or even heard of it. Now that Theatre Exile is on my radar, I definitely want to come back. Small shows can end up being gems and this was one of them. The show itself was geared towards late 20's but I think anyone can enjoy it. Told through a series of phone conversations, it was an interesting play. The theater itself was easy to find. They had strict COVID restrictions that included showing your vax card and requiring to wear your mask. I think people who enjoy theater don't have a problem with this kind of request but if it does bother you, go elsewhere. The riser seating section is not very big so it's a pretty intimate setting. They had all gender bathrooms that were clean. Very close to the BSL so easily accessible to most people in the city. I can't wait for another excuse to come see a show here.

I can't say this enough for Philadelphia Theatre: Prepare to be surprised by the performances and…read morethe venues. Theatre Exile put up a great production of "Glengary Glen Ross" in Spring 2007 and the space was another hidden treasure. The cast was filled with tenured actors that gave unique performances that came together in a singular production. It was my first show with this production company and if it was at all representative of their other shows, you'll definately see me going back to see more productions in the future. The mission of this company is to "produce risky and challenging plays that contain a sense of true Philadelphian grittiness and passion" by staging both new and established works. In addition, their focus is on letting tenured and up and coming artists work their craft while trying to find themselves as theatre artists. After speaking with someone on the phone over at the Theatre Exile box office, it was confirmed that they have and will probably continue to use the theater at the Christ Church Neighborhood House at 20 N. American Street. Ready for another suprise venue like Latvian Society theater (see my review for Pig Iron Theatre Company)? Well, on the THIRD floor of this church, there is a former basketball court that has been transformed into a black box theater. Imagine, the half court line is the edge of the stage. One half of the space is a platform with folding chairs as seats (nearly 100 or maybe more), and the other half is all space for the actors to play. It was rather stunning as the bare wood frame for the building is exposed and painted black. So, now for the things to watch for: This theater is NOT handicap accesible. No elevator and a lot of walking (check to see if everyone in your party is capable of walking up several flights of stairs). Bathrooms for men are located in the basement meaning that you'll be going down four floors. Late seating is often not possible as the stage is only 5 feet away from the front row. This company is one of the major players in the Philadelphia area. Make sure you make it to a show if you're in the area. Tickets are normally priced between $15-$40 and there are discounts available for students/seniors as well as Philly FunSaver discounts.

The theater itself is somewhat…read moresizeable but not like Academy of Music or other big venue playhouses in Philly, and I liked the vibe of historic character and a size that once housed a much greater portion of the city's theater crowd than it does proportionately today. Old balconies and the upper mezz tier were full of charm as they keep the theater updated while retaining Victorian-meets-Deco motifs. The view from Orchestra left, row J, far outside aisle seats was beyond expectations. I was wary of being on the outer aisle but visibility was absolutely perfect! There was also an actual live orchestra playing every score from a pit under the stage. A couple of things were drawbacks. One, I understand that the production company is a separate entity from the theater so when our performance was delayed due to "technical difficulties" it could be a cast issue or an actual issue with the house. If the latter, then shame on WST for not having their sh!t together to be ready for the show. I have a gut feeling that a cast member missed a train and was late. Why? I've been to a lot of theater and when they wait until TEN MINUTES past showtime to disclose a "technical issue" it's usually a late cast member or last-minute need for an understudy. In this case, not only was the announcement past curtain, but after the 40min delay, there were zero technical issues throughout the performance and usually technical issues don't completely resolve if they took that long to rectify in the first place. That said, regardless of whose issue was delaying showtime, the house ought to have been on top of hospitality for their patrons and ought to have announced this delay 10 min PRIOR to showtime rather than after. Not only that, but when finally announced, they had had us packed in like sardines in the very small lobby and everyone was hot, miserable, and coughing on one another. Inexcusable. The fact that most of the patrons were Baby Boomers using senior decline as an excuse to behave narcissistically abusively (a trait they've championed their whole lives) made the situation unbearable. They were covert-aggressively knocking into us and others, trying to push toward house doors that were not open for anyone to sit. One old man stepped on my foot! This is disgraceful for drunk rugby hooligans and worse for senior theatrophiles! So while so many other elements were 10 stars, THIS knocks a TON off my average. Another negative, I'm all about supporting the arts and concessions help keep this theater afloat. But an airplane snack bag of pretzels for $4, and single whiskey (44-50ml, probably 44ml) for $17 is not even affordable to me! Sheesh! A half pint (200ml) of Maker's is $9.99 and 375ml is $15.50! I enjoy max 1-2 drinks about 2-5 times per YEAR, so I am not UTD on bar rates but Google says a half-pour at a bar on average is $5-$12, and I was actually expecting $10-$12 but wow, not 850% markup! Worse, no prices are posted for anything so they waste time lining people up when half of them either forfeit a ridiculous sum for the cheapest one little thing out of guilt, or walk away insulted like I did. Many positives with the structure and character of the old theater, and great views and sound, including authentic orchestra pit, but mismanaging delays, and bilking for concessions made the experience disappointing in ways it doesn't need to be. Hit Wawa across the street for snacks and hide a flask in your bag if you want a drink.

We sat in the 4th row, and it was perfect! The set design, props, and concepts were excellent, and the actors' execution was outstanding, resulting in spectacular fun! Even though there were only 6 actors, it felt like a full cast ensemble, and they worked tremendously hard to pull it off. The musical follows the 1st book and A Tale of 2 Kitties puuuurrrrrrrrrrfectly, word-for-word! After the show, the actors did an impromptu meet and greet on their way out. Despite being tired and sweaty, they stopped and chatted with the children who were still around, asking how they enjoyed the play. The actors were incredibly gracious, taking lots of photos and signing autographs for the kids. It was a wonderful close to the show. We've been to many shows for our children, and none have been able to capture their hearts and attention the way this show did from beginning to end.
