Warning signs everywhere
Sun L.

Parking everywhere, free and plenty Time: Sunrise to Sunset, please be respectful of the surrounding nature Be on the quieter side, don't overstep or destroy the pathway, clean up after yourselves Right next to the coastal trails where you can see Marin and the Golden Gate, another great walk Dog friendly and seen many visitors of many ages, kids and elderly There is the long staircase down to the beach, a secret cave!! and some rough rocky spots, but overall an okay walk

We had a lovely day at Sutro bath ruins where there is an amazing view and beautiful patch of calla lilies. It's quite a drive to get here but well worth it for a nice hike by the ocean and a view of the Golden Gate Bridge as well.

Beautiful scenery. During the colder season, the fog gives it a Silent Hill vibe, which made it even more memorable. I was also happy I got to bring my furbaby. Definitely a place I'd come back to.

Parking is off the side of the road, but there are warnings signs not to leave valuables in your vehicle due to frequent break-ins.

We didn't make it down to the Sutro Baths; only saw it from the top of the hill. I can only imagine how it looked back in the day, but now it sits abandoned as the fog eerily rolls in. The National Park Service has information on the Sutro Baths, including historical photographs and links to other sites where it goes into more detail. Worth a visit to learn about this historic landmark. Parking is located off the side of the road. Signs are posted, warning not to leave valuables in your car due to theft. But other than that little warning sign, it's a place to consider dropping by and checking out.

ruins of the once amazing bath house

At the turn around point of the Land's End Trail, we had the opportunity to go a little further. Down the hill we went and explored the remains of the once massive indoor public bathhouse built in the 1890s, which housed salt water pools, museums and gardens. Unfortunately there is not much remaining of this seemingly once amazing structure, but realizing what once stood here, and seeing the massive foot print of a structure built over 130 years ago was humbling. I'm sure it would have been an amazing site to see in the day, with a glass roof, and just the massive scale, built right at the edge of the ocean. While down exploring the ruins we also found a cave in the side of the cliff. We explored this as well, and experienced an indescribable sound reverberation as the waves pounded the exterior of the wall of the cave. Very cool experience. Again, there is not much to see here, but I'd still recommend exploring it if you have the chance!

Loving the DJ pop ups here now. So lucky we live here

I've been going to Sutro baths for decades. It was cool then and it's even cooler now. Love the trails and the updated structures. Loving the dj pop ups! So lucky to live here and be surrounded by all this beauty

Historical landmark, a public bathhouse that was huge in 1890 ish, too bad it doesn't survive till today, else it could be a very attractive tourist destination. Went to the visitor center to read the history of the area, you will be amazed how pretty the architecture was

Sutro Baths is gorgeous if you happen to come here late June when the flowers are blooming and the hillside is green!

Renee L.

A few of my friends took me here and we got to see an amazing view. There's a hike nearby that people can take but if you want a spot to lookout at this place is perfect.

This place is extraordinary. You can really see the vision that was here before it went into ruins. This place was really a cool and truly gigantic facility. The caves around to explore and ruins are truly amazing. You get to see the scenery that Mother Nature leaves behind. you can even walk down this hill to the ocean. I would go here any day to relax and sight see and explore. So much graffiti too! This truly gives the place so much character.

I never knew the historic significance of Sutro Baths. Such a unique concept and an eccentric site... If only I could go back in time and see the Baths in its glory days. Initially I thought an earthquake demolished the buildings. However, according to the NPS the entire site was slated for replacement with high-rise apartments. Boo! Well in hind sight that's just business I suppose. Either way it was an interesting piece of history, For more information check out the homepage: https://www.nps.gov/goga/learn/historyculture/sutro-baths.htm Also don't forget to pay Lands End a visit since it's around the corner...

Sutro Baths is always beautiful and a good choice to bring guests visiting from out of town. I prefer it when it's sunny but when it's overcast it has a brooding mysterious look. The walk down the ruins is short but has 141 steps, so you get a little workout. There are a few paths going into a cave and the remains of an old bathhouse. It's extremely popular with photographers and I see a lot of photoshoots here. It's nice for a short walk but for something longer, continue on with the Lands End Trail for a 3-mile walk. Worth noting, be mindful of leaving anything in the car as that parking lot is a known hotspot for smash and grabs.

Maruko X.

The Sutro Baths was once a large saltwater swimming pool complex in the Lands End area. It used to be a classic Greek portal opened to a massive glass enclosure containing several swimming pools at various temperatures. Even nowadays I think the coastal ruins are still impressive, overlooking Seal Rocks, with ramps and stairs descending down to the collapsing walls and sea cave, and I would recommend visiting.

Ask the Community - Sutro Baths

With the frequent break ins in SF, is there someone patrolling the parking lot?

I visit about once a month (mornings). And every time I park in the lot it seems a park ranger/or someone in a security van loops around. I can't say for sure how frequent it is but I see them every time I'm there.

Do you have to pay to get In?

This is the site of the ruins of Sutro Baths. It is free to visit.

The Presidio is such a cool part of SF, and this is a great spot to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and catch up with friends or family. The East Meadow is also near the recently opened Mess Hall, which makes it a convenient location if you're planning to spend a little more time in the area. You can keep things simple and just hang out, or plan ahead for a gathering. There are picnic tables available to rent, and you can even reserve part or all of the East Meadow! Definitely something to keep in mind if you're looking for an outdoor spot to bring a group together. What I like about this area is that the setting itself is such a big part of the experience. You have space to gather and those classic San Francisco views right around you. Whether you're planning a picnic or just looking for somewhere to enjoy an afternoon, the East Meadow is worth checking out!

It's spacious and right in the heart of the mission district. Used to be huge cemetery until they moved the bodies to Colma, and then after the 1906 earthquake, this area served temporarily as an official refugee camp. Today the park serves as a site for local community events. The weather here is superb and we both enjoyed our grounding time together. Because this isn't my pup's usual stomping ground, I didn't let him run off leash. He had a great time anyway. Located in a square from 18th St - 20th st; Dolores and Church.

I recently visited with a friend from Texas who had heard great things about the park and couldn't resist seeing it for himself. He was thoroughly impressed by the positive and healthy lifestyle activities taking place there. People of all ages were engaged in various activities, including soccer, volleyball, jogging, and even a dance party. Some individuals were participating in a meditation circle, promoting mindfulness and relaxation. My friend was particularly drawn to the emphasis on health and fitness in this park, which he believes contributes to California's healthier environment compared to Texas. After visiting Dolores Park, my friend expressed a strong desire to move to San Francisco. He was captivated by the idea of living in a place where people prioritize their physical well-being alongside socializing. He envisioned a lifestyle where everyone values their health and fitness, making it easier to maintain a balanced and fulfilling life. While I had visited Dolores Park once for an event, it was a truly enjoyable experience. I came without any specific agenda and simply relaxed on a bench, engaging in conversations with friends. We talked about life, dreams, and the importance of connecting with one another. It was an uplifting and fun experience that left me feeling inspired and motivated.

Also did a little rollerblading at the Skatin' Place which happens on select Sundays. It was pretty chill. We even skated along the JFK Promenade to check out the artworks (old and new) and live music happening in various locations. I regularly visit this park because there are so many awesome events that happen here, some that I've attended include music festivals, Symphony in the Park and Bandshell concerts at the Spreckels Temple of Music, the SF International Chocolate Salon, and the Entwined Lighted Forest. There are also plenty of trails I've taken advantage of for running, and lakes and waterfalls I've explored and set up a mat for lounging nearby, like the scenic Blue Heron Lake that offers pedal boat rentals and Lloyd Lake with the Portals of the Past monument, a unique memorial and piece of history. A huge variety of trees and plant life surround you wherever you go, along with waterbirds and other adorable creatures, and lots of grass for picnicking. There are also beautiful gardens galore including the SF Botanical Garden where the annual Flower Piano takes place, the Conservatory of Flowers, the Japanese Tea Garden, and a bunch that are free to visit like the Shakespeare Garden, Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden, Dahlia Dell, and Fuchsia Dell. Countless public art displays and projects can be found throughout the park, some of my faves being the Rabbitwoman and Dogman sculptures along the Golden Mile pathway and the sea serpent "Naga and the Captainess" at Rainbow Falls. I've also checked out a plethora of museums and attractions here over the years, such as Cal Academy of Sciences, the paddock bison, and the dutch-style windmills. I never seem to run out of interesting things to see, do, and experience at GGP. We were in the area for a festival and read that this park was great for dogs and had a dog park…read morearea. We walked up the HUGE San Francisco hill to the park, and then the whole park is a hill. The park is beautiful, there are sidewalks throughout, a nice playground for kids, a dog park area with a fence around it, and a summit area. Near the summit there was a coffee truck, Native Twins Coffee, that was perfect to grab a coffee or matcha. The dog park was a good size, it's long and fenced in, but on the hill so if you're planning on playing fetch/catch with your dog it'll either be throwing up hill or chasing it downhill. There were some trees, so there was some shade in the area too, plus a water fountain in case your dog gets thirsty. I will say, there were dogs all over the park off leash, not just in the turfed dog area. The dogs that were off leash were well behaved, but we kept an eye on our dog (on leash) and the others around us just to be safe. The summit is really pretty with some areas to sit down and plenty of shade. The view was great, and there were groups of people there for a birthday party. The playground area also had some seating nearby and another party was happening in that area. Despite the giant hill, this was a very cute park. I'd definitely stop by again.
