They maybe are good in cleaning and simple dental work, but watch out if you need a crown, bridge or any kind of serious work, before agreeing with them check under Steven Sutherland (dentist) and the office Digital Smiles, read more than 100 schoking reviews. One of them said that he was sanctioned by the Dental Board. Actually here in Google, you can find bad reviews under Steven Sutherland name. This dentist probably was a real bad student, but graduated any way. Yeah, the staff is super nice of course, even though there's a lot of them receiving trainings in your mouth. Yes, they're nice until Dr. starting to making mistakes and they can't sorry no more or the Doctor is incapable to fix. This dentist broke my tooth trying to input the bridge. Can you image a doctor that study to fix teeth, but instead he breaks. Incompetence is the name his game. He lies, when he promisses crowns and bridges at same day, but took 2 months to deliver mine and my husband's that fell off same day first time, and kept feeling off until I cannot stand to go back to reglue it and look to these people anymore. He called the security for me, when I complained about a service paid, and not received. I am going to a real dentist that was terrified to see the destruction he did in my mouth. Overdrilled my tooth (that's why the bridge was falling), I have to put a implant, he said a had a infection and extracted my tooth, pulled off good crowns I had. HORRIBLE DENTIST!!!! Paid over $2k for 2 crowns...one fell off 3x. When it fell off the 3rd time, I made an appointment and at that appointment they did absolutely nothing (didn't even glue it back in); made ANOTHER appointment for 2 weeks later for what I was told would be for a new crown. When I went to THAT appointment they had yet another BRAND NEW assistant (they can't seem to get/keep good, experienced assistants) who proceeded to numb my gum and then tried to take a successful X-ray, which she never got. The office manager, Pearl, came in and asked me what my concern was...WHAT???? I said I was there for a new crown because the other one had fallen off 3x. I asked if they had made a new crown and she said she didn't know...then she proceeded to tell me that SHE was going to get X-rays. I was very confused and upset by this time and told her so. She got snotty and I told her not to get an attitude with me. She said she was only trying to help. After another 5 X-rays she walked out and a few minutes later Dr. Sutherland appeared. HE asked me what my concern was.....the "chipped" crown? CHIPPED??? That was a completely new idea!! I said, "it's chipped? News to me...it has fallen off 3x and I was told this appointment was for a new crown!!" He replied that there isn't enough of the tooth to hold a crown and the only alternative is to EXTRACT THE TOOTH!!!! I told him he will never touch anything in my mouth again and that I want a refund! He tried to offer a referral for another dentist and I told him I already have one. He told me he will absolutely give me a refund after reviewing the new dentist's notes and diagnosis. Went to new dentist where it was determined after completing a probe of my gums that the tooth with the problem crown has an 8mm pocket in the buccal gum area (the back of the tooth) and the crown is abnormal and defective. Sutherland's office never probed the gums or the pocket would have been discovered and the crown never would have been put on the tooth to begin with! The new dentist sent an email to Sutherland...I have tried calling and he is on "vacation" and Pearl doesn't have time to talk to me and is not returning my calls. Sutherland was sanctioned by the CA Dental Board in B September 2017 for unethical practices (anyone can Google it) and was placed on "probation." When I told Pearl I read this tidbit, she said it wasn't Sutherland himself, but one of his employees....yeh, sure. But, I wonder if unethical practices include a hygienist in a spiffy white doctor's coat, who introduces himself as "Dr. Khan." I asked Pearl about it (this was prior to crown fiasco) and her reply was that he might be a doctor in India but here he is only a hygienist. Hmmmmm....and they allow him to misrepresent himself?? I will be contacting my credit card company to get a reversal of charges for the total amount of the crowns for both my husband and me (his fell off also and there were other issues). I will also be contacting the dental board and hopefully all 3 of "Dr." Sutherland's offices will be shut down!!! read more

I wanted only to take care of one cavity on his front tooth I thought it was chip. The dentist Dr. Steven Sutherland told me the next tooth showed a little decay also. They didn't disclose anything to us about any other teeth. When he started to treat the both teeth, the doctor did more front teeth then was disclosed to him. Dr. Sutherland did his part and handed my husband over to get the impressions from an assistant. I to wait for some time for the assistant to came to do the impression. Waited more when she showed up to tell him they need to do it again. Again he waited. She returned with someone else. The second person also tried unsuccessfully. At that point I started to think that the first assistant was being trained. Before the third try for the impression I started feeling pain so they had given me another local anesthetic injection. Then another person shows up, and introduced herself as Dr. Sutherland ex-wife. Evidently she was able to do the third impression within minutes. He waited for some time before they came back with the temporary crown all in one piece. Turned out they did 4 teeth. The ex-wife attached the temporary crown. At the point I had been in the chair for 5 hours. My wife called the office twice because I was there for long. After sitting the chair that long I injured his back which still hurts today. I have not been able to work due to the pain can hardly walk. read more

Swindler!!! I have dental insurance his treatment plans for root canal and pulling a tooth $8,276 of which my insurance would pay $2,408.30 and he expects me to pay $5,867.70. Are you kidding me.... complete swingler, they know we care about patient they only want to Triple or quadruple how much money they should be getting paid in the first place. Dr. Sutherland botched my dental work and took four months to deal with the issue. A crown broke in December. He replaced it on December 14, 2021 for $1444 (and I have insurance). The same tooth developed an abscess in the process. When I went back to the office on January 4, 2022 (the earliest they could fit me in during the holidays) with a swollen face and pus-filled gums, only the hygienist looked at me although Dr. Sutherland was present and she went to tell him that he needed to take a look at my abscess. I could hear him tell her in a very condescending tone--"can't you see that I'm watching this?" Whatever he was watching--be it an Instagram video or a dentist training video (who knows?)--couldn't he step away to take a look at the damage he did to my teeth, gums, and face? No. The hygienist drained and treated the abscess on her own and made a third appointment for me. At that third appointment, January 6, 2022, Dr. Sutherland told me that sometimes a crown won't work, but he tried his best and at this point I would need to lose the tooth and wear either a bridge or get implants. I opted for a bridge. He said that the payment that I already submitted for the botched crown work would apply to the new work. I thanked him, and then lost that tooth that he couldn't save. He charged me another $2,585.60 (plus the amount that my insurance paid). At that time, I was told that all my expenses were paid and no more would accrue. I received a temporary bridge and did not see the Dr. again for the remainder of my treatment. I returned again for some reason on February 3, 2022. I thought that I would be receiving my permanent bridge, but did not. I was told by one of the hygienist that because of my abscess, they couldn't order my bridge until I was fully healed, so now they took measurements and molds of my mouth and ordered the permanent bridge. On March 17, 2022, I finally received my permanent bridge--which did not fit well and did not match my existing teeth in shape or color. At that point, I was so traumatized by this work that I moved on and decided that I would leave this business for a better office. A few months later, of course, I received a new bill of $1387.60. Surprise! This brought my total for a painful, long, and poor-quality bridge to $5,417.20 (plus whatever my insurance paid). When I called the office to say that I was repeatedly told that my balance was $0, the office workers told me that they didn't handle billing and that I would need to call another office, which I did but no one picked up. I left a message and a few months went by without any notice of the bill. Then it popped up again in my email. I again called, but no one from either office would pick up the phone or answer an email. I left many messages, but no replies occurred. I work fulltime and I take care of my mother who has advanced dementia. I have no time to visit the dentist office to address this new bill, but I will now find the time. However, no matter the result of that bill, I want to warn everyone out there--do not put your dental care into the hands of this dentist. He's a disaster to the wellness of your health, look of your smile, and stability of your bank account. I can't imagine a more incompetent and thieving dental office. read more

Buyer beware there is no actual dentist here just a dental hygienist and they don't take x-rays unless "they see something unusual". So no surprise to months later when I take my kids to a real dentist & xrays are done...they each have a cavity! We had to even ask the hygienist to do a fluoride treatment otherwise she was gonna skip that too! read more

Horrible. Dr. Sutherland couldn't care less about his patience. You have to wait at least an hour in the lobby every time you come and then after they put you in the chair you sit here for up to another hour before you are ever seen. Don't bother complaining. Instead of an apology Dr. Sutherland said "it's he cost of healthcare today". Huh? Skip this dentist and find one that cares about the business and their patience. read more

I've been with Dr. Sutherland for a long time the service has gotten worse and worse. If you make an "appointment " you should keep it, nope! I have taken off work only to find out when you get there you've been rescheduled. This was the third time, I am done with Dr. Sutherland. read more

Dr Steven J. Sutherland is the dentist for this office in Rolling Hills Estates at 927 Deep Valley Drive, Rolling Hills Estates and he has another dental office less than 5 miles away in Torrance called Torrance Dental Arts 23326 Hawthorne Blvd Suite 190, Torrance, CA 90505. His patient reviews are horrible. Its shocking to read how many bad ones there are and consistently about the same problems. Either he is blind or doesn't care. We wait for hours, had painful problems with every single piece of work done, got messed about with their scheduling as they schedule us for an appointment on a day "he isn't at this office today" or "he left early today" or "he is overbooked today so Manny will see you instead". Dr. Sutherland, would you expect your own family to be treated so poorly by a doctors office? Then why would you put your patients through this at your own office? 100's of patients can't all be making this up. And the reviews only represent the complaints from people using Yelp. Imagine how many more poorly treated patients you have telling their friends and neighbors not to go near your offices. For us, our days of poor treatment have come to a close. No more hours of waiting for your badly organized scheduling front desk person who we wish was as good at her job as she is at giving your patients a hard time, bad attitude and useless information. read more

He deserves ZERO star but unfortunately not available. Both my husband and I have insurance and we where refered by the provider. He is taking advantage of patients and the insurance company by brining people in and refusing to do the covered work by the insurance and telling us loud and clear he is not compensated well and therfore we need to pay lot more for the work and copay. My husband's work consisted of a crown over a tooth with cavity that caused him pain.... to make the long story short, the bill started with $2126.00. When negotiated, he dropped it to $912.00. Just got off the phone with my insurance, they said our copay should have been $200.00. Shame on him. In my case, I went for cleaning, after examination he decided to sell me work that I don't need but would benefit in the future and convinced me that I will benefit from the work done early. So the bill was also close to $2000.00. When I asked to do just the cleaning, he refused to have the hygienist do it due to low reimbursment from insurance and they would only allocate the assistant to do that kind of work while telling me it wont be good/deep cleaning done and only surface work. Really..... This dentist is simply taking advantage of people and thinks he can get away with it read more
