So originally, I had written a negative review because of two specific staff members I had to deal with before I actually went to see doctor Lo, which I will leave at the bottom of this review.
After I saw Dr. Lo, my mind has changed a lot. His office is very clean and organized. The toys available for children are kept clean and tidy. And his office bathroom is spotless. The office staff that I dealt with in person was very polite and helpful.
Dr. Lo is actually a very good dentist. One of the most thorough dentists I have ever been to. He explains things with great detail and in a way you can understand, and he is very gentle with your child. He has a lot of patience, and his assistant will watch your child while he talks to you about the results of his examination. He speaks in a very friendly tone, and is in no way the kind of dentist that scolds you or shamed you for whatever pr blend your child might have.
I would definitely recommend this pediatric dentist to anyone in the area looking for a good dentist for their child.
-------------------------------------
Yesterday, I called in to register my daughter as a new patient and to make her first appointment. I needed an appointment urgently because we had scheduled her to have her tongue tie and lip tie removed from an ENT, which requires a pre-op approval from a pediatric dentist.
I asked if the office accepted United Healthcare. The first office receptionist told me that I needed to call my insurance and find out for myself because she doesn't have that information.
Strike 1: wtf do you mean?! That's your job.
At every professional office I have ever been to, when you call in to make an appointment as a new patient, they take down all your information at that moment, asking for your name, your birthdate, your phone number, your address, and YOUR INSURANCE INFORMATION.
Why? SO THEY CAN DO THEIR JOB AND LOOK UP IF YOU'RE COVERED AND FOR HOW MUCH.
I was in a rush and I really needed an appointment, and that office is close to the ENT office and my husband's work. So I put up with her lazy attitude and called the insurance myself. As I'm talking to the insurance, the insurance says "yes they are a covered provider, but it's their responsibility to confirm with us the coverage." Which already confirms what I already know because on the back of my card, THERE IS A SPECIFIC NUMBER FOR PROVIDERS TO CALL.
I call back and make my appointment, the second office receptionist doesn't even take my insurance information, and I confront her about the incident and tell her what the insurance told me. The office receptionist's immediate response is to lie and say "I don't know what you're talking about, we don't even know how to get that information and the insurance doesn't even like to tell us those kinds of things, which is why we make patients do it. It's better the patient calls anyway, they should know these things."
Strike 2: Once again, wtf do you mean?! This is your job. THIS IS WHAT YOU GET PAID FOR! If the "insurance" doesn't like to give you this kind of information, why do they have a SPECIFIC NUMBER for providers to call?! Is this the kind of BS you tell all your patients who don't know any better?! What kind of customer service is this?!
Obviously I'm mad at this point, and I don't back down, but the office receptionist just keeps giving me more and more excuses. At some point, She's just wasting my time with all the different excuses she's giving me. In fact she could have been more productive with all the BS she gave me and just took down my information like she's supposed to and find out from the insurance like she's supposed to.
While I finally get the lazy, lying, receptionist to get me an appointment, she asks me what I'm making the appointment for and I explain to her that I need to get a pre-op authorization for a tongue tie and lip tie removal. And the receptionist starts to get defensive and responds, "what? I don't know how to do that. I've never done that before. I've never even heard of that before. Are you sure a pediatric dentist does that?"
Strike 3: HOW UNPROFESSIONAL ARE YOU?! Why would you even tell a patient that?! Why are you getting defensive? I'm pretty sure it's not my fault you suck at your job and you don't know what a pre-op authorization is, maybe you should ask a colleague or a dentist or your boss, not a new patient. It really sounds like you need some refresher training skills classes.
Then after I finally hang up with receptionist, she has the nerve to call me back and make me reschedule my appointment because "oh while I was making your appointment, someone else was making the same appointment, you're going to have to change your appointment."
Strike 4: The NERVE YOU HAVE for putting me through multiple awful phone calls, just to make me change my appointment, an appointment I actually really need. HOW MUCH MORE UNPROFESSIONAL AND INCOMPETENT can you be?! read more
