Absolutely amazing food. We came in closer to closing than we'd prefer and everyone was so kind regardless. Good price, great sushi

Bang for your buck! They're located inside the same plaza as the dollar store and CVS. Plenty of parking and you can enter from the back or the front. They have this so-called yellow menu and basically, you get the rolls 50% off if you spend a minimum $15. You buy two rolls for $20 essentially and it ranges from baked sushi rolls to regular rolls! I don't believe there's a restriction to when since we came in on a Sunday night for dinner. We ordered the spicy salmon baked roll and the deluxe roll! Both very delicious and they did not skimp out on the filing. We also offered their dinner special, the beef teriyaki, it came with rice, California rolls, salad, miso soup, and tempura. Such an amazing deal!

This is a place where you get a bang for your buck. They have a menu where you get 50% off any of the items that are over $15. The most expensive item on the menu is $19.99, so you're basically getting everything for $10 or less. The restaurant was clean and the service was quick. It's not fancy by any means, but it's a decent place to go for a quick bite to eat.

My partner and I ate here for the first time on a Saturday night. We walked in and were promptly seated. Our waiter brought our beverages shortly thereafter. We ordered an appetizer to start and it was brought out within 10-15 minutes. We followed that up with the Sushiya Boat (pictured). This took a bit longer to arrive but it well worth the wait. The boat included 5 types of sashimi, 6 pairs of sushi pieces, two sushi rolls, seaweed salad, and cucumber salad. It also included miso soup which we received before our appetizer. The miso soup was good and hot. The Sushiya Boat had very fresh fish all the way around. The service was a bit slow at times; but overall it was acceptable. We would definitely return again.

Food/Taste/Flavor : 4/5 Rice was a bit hard and smushed; didn't have the texture of sushi rice. Relied heavily on their sauces for flavor. They cut back on the more expensive ingredients in the rolls. The tempura was soggy in the roll. Good wasabi not grainy. Presentation was great and beautifully rolled! It is more americanized so the sauces are pretty heavy - a bit too sweet. Definitely hits the spot though and fulfills your sushi craving in SLO. Ambience : 3/5 - sticky tables and old-looking chairs. Dark with christmas lights. Not a uniform theme to the interior. Definitely more americanized. There is faint music playing in the background. Loud enough to hear but not loud enough to enjoy. Service : 3/5 - They prioritized an elderly couple who must've been regulars. They actually got their food very quickly. We came at 6:15pm and thought it wouldn't be too packed. They did have alot of to-go order. No one came by to tell us our order was still coming. So when it got close to 7:00pm, we were debating whether to leave. We waited for 40 minutes for just two rolls. Value for Price : 5/5 We ordered from the 50% off yellow menu. And they didn't tax and tip on the original price at the end of it. Overall, their rolls were strongly flavored but it truly satisfied my sushi cravings - just don't expect the topnotch Japanese restaurant qualities in major cities.

Didn't know I was getting a whole salad for a roll. It was alright, but way too messy. Thanks for my lettuce with a side of sushi

    Tempura Udon
    Hunter S.

Yoooooo. My partner and I have recently been on an Udon kick. We each get a small cut roll (usually salmon or yellowtail) and then an order of tempura udon. Sushiya did not disappoint. The individual cut rolls were fresh and large (only five pieces but MUCH bigger than a small, six or eight piece roll). The udon was hot, flavorful, and full of that good umami taste. The tempura was crisp and not too greasy (you get a piece of shrimp, onion, zucchini, carrot, broccoli, and squash) to dip into your soup. The soup itself is full of vegetables like mushrooms, shredded carrot, and more. The broth is subtle but full of flavor and the noodles are perfectly cooked and hearty. Udon is seriously slept on -- it's mega filling and the warmth of the dish leaves you feeling satisfied. You should try it out. Also, the service was quick and the restaurant was clean. It was quiet, not too loud, but definitely had a steady stream of customers for a Sunday night. This could definitely become our go to for udon here :)

Overall (5/5): Came here on Friday for lunch and was seated after a short 15 minute wait - it was a lot busier than we expected! The parking lot was pretty small and full so we had to find metered parking nearby as the nearby parking structure was also closed. Service was good, though it was a bit hard to hear over the noise and music. The sushi felt super fresh and we loved the portion sizes - we were pretty impressed and we hope to return if we're ever in the area!

But what we experienced was on another level. Course after course was assembled in front of us. I love to cook, so watching and engaging was really special. Learned about every fish, salt, oil, cut. At this time, Nomo Domo offers six varieties of ramen (one is gluten-free). As their menu states, "FROM BONE TO BROTH EVERY BOWL IS A CULMINATION OF TIME PATIENCE, AND THE ART OF LAYERING FLAVORS". We started with three appetizers: Enoki Chips, Karaage Chicken and an order of their Ebi Shumai. The Enoki Chips are delicate enoki mushrooms fried until golden crisp and they had a rich umami. Nomo Domo's portion of Karaage Chicken is not large in the number of pieces, but the appetizer consisted of large, thick and juicy pieces of chicken. Even though they double-fry the pieces for a perfect crunchy treat, the chunks are not overcooked as so many eateries tend to do - crispy outside with a moist, tender inside. The Karaage is served with lemon and wasabi mayo. If plumb, well-filled dumplings are the comfort food you crave, the Ebi Shumai will fill that need. The serving size is four well-filled pieces. They are served with hot mustard and pinzu vinaigrette (on the side), and topped with a shrimp. Our middle course was the Hon Maguro Bluefin Tuna shashimi. It consisted of five pieces of seasonal Bluefin Tuna from Nagasaki, Japan, which is prized for its buttery texture and refined flavor. Of course we had to try their ramen on our first visit here, so we chose their Seared Pork Belly Tonkotsu ramen. The creamy pork bone broth was mild in flavor. The ramen was missing the listed Mayu Black Garlic Oil ingredient on the menu, however overall the ramen was excellent. Nomo Domo has fantastic menu selections - be sure to check for the most up-to-date online menu for current offerings and price point. The interior and patio seating area's atmosphere was upscale, clean and very delightful. The staff is wonderful and friendly. Roast Duck Breast Truffle Shoyu: The most important thing to me when ordering anything truffle is to know how long the taste of truffle lasts throughout the meal. The smell of truffle was there, and the taste lasted about a bite and a slurp of soup. Although disappointed, I can't say that I'm not surprised. The shoyu broth was pretty stock standard. It wasn't too powerful, and I think the noodle they used did its job by keeping hold of the broth, well. The duck was good as well. It would've been nice to get another slice or two of it, but the current portion size will have to do. Ambiance: I love it. It's definitely giving a vibe of a clean city that's not afraid to let customers feel the outside environment, while keeping the modern Japanese restaurant feel. Service: It's pretty good. No complaints at all about the staff or the meal. The problem came afterward. After we finished eating, we decided to walk downtown to meet a friend at a nearby restaurant before heading back. We got back around 12:45 PM and my car was already gone--towed from the restaurant's parking lot. Technically, there is a sign posted in the middle of the parking lot that says no parking between 11 PM and early morning hours (I think 7 or 8 AM). But the sign is not easy to notice unless you walk right up to it. It's not visible from most spots in the lot, especially at night, and it definitely wasn't clear enough to warn customers who just finished dining there. I totally understand if a business needs to manage non-customer parking, but towing paying customers right after they finish eating--especially with barely noticeable signage--felt extremely frustrating and really put a damper on the night. Great restaurant, great staff, really good food... but the towing policy and poor visibility of the sign are something people should be aware of before parking there. $645 to take it out that same night...

It honestly felt like they were trying to fill people up with oversized sides instead of quality food. For example, the cucumber salad was one of the worst we've had--basically two whole cucumbers drenched in vinegar. A good cucumber salad usually has a balance of sweet, salty, and tangy flavors, but this was overwhelmingly sour and left that taste lingering all day. We also ordered the teriyaki chicken with rice, which was another massive portion--far more than one person could reasonably finish, especially when ordering multiple dishes. Then came the ramen. We ordered two different kinds, and both were extremely bland. The noodles tasted like instant packaged ramen, with very little flavor in the broth. To make matters worse, the table next to us kept passing gas throughout the meal, which made the dining experience even less enjoyable. While that's obviously not entirely the restaurant's fault, it definitely added to an already disappointing visit. My suggestion: stick to the sushi rolls. If you're looking for quality over quantity, the non-sushi items were a disappointment. If you're preparing for an eating competition and don't mind huge portions of tasteless food, this might be the place for you.
