    Kumi-Ko roll

I'm really sad to write this because I was a fairly regular customer and always enjoyed the food here. During my last visit, I paid my bill by card but left a cash tip (about 30%). I wrote "CASH" on the tip line of the receipt and filled in the total without adding a card tip, since I had already tipped in cash. Later, I noticed an additional tip had been added to my card charge that I did not authorize. I'm not sure if this was a mistake or a processing error, but it was disappointing to see and made me feel uncomfortable about returning. The food has always been really good, but I recommend double-checking your bank statement after visiting to make sure your final charge matches what you approved.

Been here twice with my significant other. We like their rice dishes, but honestly, they are a bit too sweet. The main thing is that we didn't know that there is an automatic ~22% gratuity (wasn't noted anywhere and Google also doesn't know about this) attached to the bill. Good thing we caught it because when they handed us our cards back, there was still a spot to put tip and there wasn't a price breakdown then. It was going to be a scam to tip even more, especially with us being only 2 people with our food being less than $20 each. It's honestly so unfair and needs to be noted fairly.

Kumi Ko Sushi in San Luis Obispo is great! The sushi is always fresh, tasty, and well-made. The staff is friendly, and the place has a nice, relaxed vibe. Definitely a solid spot if you're craving good sushi in SLO.

Above average, not the best, but sets a standard. A lot of places have a small menu with a few sushi options. This place does justice for having various options with various fishes and making sushi correctly. However I also had some Beef Udon soup that wasn't too good. The noodles were meh, the beef were like tree bark, the broth was unflavored and I had to pour in a LOT of soy sauce. I can tell they put effort in but it's still far from great. The server was one dude always in a hurry, I didn't get sauces or the tea I asked for (it wasn't charged). Needs some work, won't try here again unless improved or all other options are worse

The food here is so good! Everything cooked came out pipping hot and the sushi was fresh and delicious. The Kumi Ko roll is by far my favorite. The Yaki Soba is great and I definitely recommend the creamy shrimp!

Oh my gosh this place did not disappoint. The lunch special came with soooo much food and was a good price. Everything was fresh and yummy and the portions were large. Lots of seating, nice music and good customer services. I will be back!

Was recommended to try Kumi Ko while wine tasting at Baileyana. I always test a new-to-me Japanese restaurant by ordering the chirashi and this one did not disappoint. A plentiful variety of fresh sashimi, tuna, salmon, scallop, ono, tamago and even some ikura! Beautiful presentation, I got to take more than half of it home to enjoy for dinner. Just a bit annoyed to see my chirashi sitting on the counter for over 5 minutes as my husband's bento wasn't ready at the same time. Then he gets his meal first! I'll get over it and be back again!

Super fresh oysters, they become my favorite now.

Go there once a week for fresh oysters. Their sushi are amazing too. The service was excellent.

Kumi Ko is my new favorite sushi spot in San Luis Obispo. We ordered three rolls, including two from the specials menu, which came with a miso soup and salad--making it a great value for the price. Each roll averaged around $20, a bit pricier than other local spots, but the quality and presentation made it well worth it. The fish was fresh, and the presentation of each roll elevated the experience. The miso soup was warm and comforting, while the salad with a ginger dressing offered a refreshing start to the meal. If you're looking for high-quality sushi in SLO and don't mind paying a bit more, Kumi Ko is well worth the visit.

My boyfriend and I have eaten at this place three times and will keep coming back to try their endless options of dishes! I typically do not eat salmon and was very interested in trying the Philly Roll. Thankfully they were understanding and very flexible in adjusting the dish. One other dish I would like to highlight is the banana tempura dessert! It's definitely must-try for first timers. The restaurant overall is very clean and service was amazing!

Wow! We were told how great Kumi Ko was, and they exceeded all of our expectations! The food was fresh and flavorful, and the only thing better than the food was the service!!! The weather was perfect so we decided to sit outside and our waiter was attentive, thoughtful, funny, and left handed (I'm biased lol) and he made our experience that much better! I would be amiss if I didn't mention we had a second waiter who was equally delightful! Hats off to Kumi Ko! We will be back...soon!!!

Food: decent sushi for slo, definitely not the best though. Decent prices as well Service: polite and quick! Ambiance: clean, lots of seating, calm and quiet but good music too

Where to begin.... Kitchen items are ok. The fried rice lacks flavor. Soft shell crab is ok as well. Sashimi and Rolls were good. I would it again if I ever come back. Service is not bad at all. Our server was attentive and pleasant. The only thing I don't like is the automatic gratuity in our bill for a party of four. I must have missed this notice. It was not on the menu or anywhere in the restaurant posted. I don't like the auto gratuity especially we were only a party of 4.

Two house specialty rolls. They were on the pricey side $23.

No complaints at all about the staff or the meal. The problem came afterward. After we finished eating, we decided to walk downtown to meet a friend at a nearby restaurant before heading back. We got back around 12:45 PM and my car was already gone--towed from the restaurant's parking lot. Technically, there is a sign posted in the middle of the parking lot that says no parking between 11 PM and early morning hours (I think 7 or 8 AM). But the sign is not easy to notice unless you walk right up to it. It's not visible from most spots in the lot, especially at night, and it definitely wasn't clear enough to warn customers who just finished dining there. I totally understand if a business needs to manage non-customer parking, but towing paying customers right after they finish eating--especially with barely noticeable signage--felt extremely frustrating and really put a damper on the night. Great restaurant, great staff, really good food... but the towing policy and poor visibility of the sign are something people should be aware of before parking there. $645 to take it out that same night...

It honestly felt like they were trying to fill people up with oversized sides instead of quality food. For example, the cucumber salad was one of the worst we've had--basically two whole cucumbers drenched in vinegar. A good cucumber salad usually has a balance of sweet, salty, and tangy flavors, but this was overwhelmingly sour and left that taste lingering all day. We also ordered the teriyaki chicken with rice, which was another massive portion--far more than one person could reasonably finish, especially when ordering multiple dishes. Then came the ramen. We ordered two different kinds, and both were extremely bland. The noodles tasted like instant packaged ramen, with very little flavor in the broth. To make matters worse, the table next to us kept passing gas throughout the meal, which made the dining experience even less enjoyable. While that's obviously not entirely the restaurant's fault, it definitely added to an already disappointing visit. My suggestion: stick to the sushi rolls. If you're looking for quality over quantity, the non-sushi items were a disappointment. If you're preparing for an eating competition and don't mind huge portions of tasteless food, this might be the place for you.

The sushi chefs at the sushi bar DO NOT say "Irasshaimase" when entering. We got as appetizer- spicy grilled edamame. 5 stars. Small portion but had a nice kick unique to what I've had. Unagi 2 piece ($7). 5 stars- no complaints. Maybe a thin cut was fine with me Super Dragon Roll ($10, normally $19.99) - was a cali crab meat plus shrimp tempura with unagi on top. 3 stars - I liked their sticky rice held the sushi together. Middle of the roll pieces had very little crab meat and shrimp compared to the ends of the sushi roll where the tail of the shrimp tempura ends. Not bad but very Ricky. Chicken teriyaki combo - 3.5 stars. Vegetable tempura had one shrimp, one onion roll, one yam but could be two. Decent but nothing special. The menu said charbroiled but I was expecting something else. It was chicken breast meat. And thin cut- sauce was nice and thinck but longer you eat, the sauce gets more thick and sticky. I'd much rather have discussed my disappointment with management by email or phone call but I found no way to talk to them so feel forced to make this one bad experience public. If someone from Poke Chef reaches out to me I will happily remove this review.

Having lived in Japan for many years, I'm picky about quality and authenticity--and Poke Chef nails it every time. The fish is consistently fresh, the flavors are spot-on, and the menu offers that perfect balance of traditional Japanese touches and modern poke creativity. The service is exceptional. The team is warm, friendly, and incredibly attentive, making every visit feel seamless and welcoming. Whether you're grabbing a quick bowl or settling in for a comforting Japanese meal, they make you feel like a valued guest. Convenience is another huge plus--Poke Chef is ideally located right near Cal Poly and US-101, making it an easy stop for students, locals, and travelers alike. And for all this quality, the prices are extremely reasonable. It's hands-down the best value for delicious poke and Japanese food in the area. Highly recommended--Poke Chef is a standout you'll want to return to again and again.
