Mango specialty roll
Mike E.

Stopped in during our visit to the Christmas market and was pleasantly surprised . Great offerings , low cost rolled in front of you . Great stop for a lunch or snack while visiting the Grand Rapids Market . The spicy Kani salad and the mango specialty roll were very good . Lava roll was pedestrian, but it is very simple . We really enjoyed the staff there as well , very friendly and kind.

a variety of sushi in a bowl

My family has long been in whole hearted agreement that this is the best quality sushi in town. It's one of the only places we order sashimi or nigiri, it's not just the quality of the fish, their chefs have been correctly trained in how to cut and prepare the slices. But in addition thanks to Sushi Market staff we actually received a Christmas miracle of kindness from this restaurant on Christmas Eve at about 1pm. Our Christmas had kind of fallen apart last minute with sick family (nothing terrible, but the family couldn't be together) So my husband and I decided to freeze the ham etc and surprise the kids with their favorite sushi. So we drove down ordered a bunch, and I sat at the bar to wait. When my order was ready they handed me an absolutely beautifully prepared tray of the sushi I had ordered! Like the kind of tray you specialty order for catering. I almost cried, kindness is always a lovely thing, but sometimes it comes when it is particularly needed. Thank you!

Sashimi Combo - April 2021

I had the chance to grab lunch at the DTM last week, and while I was wondering around looking at options.. sashimi sounded SO good. It has been a few years since I had tried the sushi at Sushi Market, so I thought I'd give them another try. I ordered the Sashimi Deluxe for $23 - it took about 5-10 minutes to put together and it packaged and sealed for me to take and eat wherever. Upon opening the large package, I was impressed with the care/ effort put into the looks of the combo. Fresh orange & lemon slices, lots of greenery, lots of white radish noodles, and a pretty flower! I was very happy to see they gave me a small side of soy sauce and not a bunch of packets! With this deluxe order you get 18 pcs of sashimi - 5 different kids of fish. I got 6 pcs of tuna and 4 other kinds of fish. I will say, I was quite impressed with the variety and all of them were very good! They all tasted very fresh and had great flavor. From what I remember, the last time I got their sashimi is was sliced very thin, these were nice, thick slices! I will admit... I ended up there for a second time that same week... GUILTY!

There are so many great options in the downtown market and this one fell flat today. I love sushi and frequently dream about great sashimi. This fish was cold and crunchy, as though it had been taken out of the freezer just minutes before they served it to me. Because of it being so watery, I couldn't even taste any flavors of the fish. The only saving grace is their sushi rice but I wouldn't have paid $16 for that.

California rolls, shrimp tempura and spicy King Crab Avocado Roll

Amazing my 6th order , fresh and the presentation is exquisite. The variety of seafood prepared by them is extraordinary, there's a solution for ever palate rather it's raw or tempura you will not be disappointed .

Hands down best sushi in GR. Sushi Market is clean, fresh, delicious, and fast. They offer a full sushi menu and bar seating. The drinks here are bottled or canned. The staff are friendly and polite. You can see the quality of the fish. Don't just take my word for it, try it for yourself. You won't be dissatisfied.

Takeout meal w/ Puppycat bc eating solo sucks! First roll on left is 'futomaki' (egg/veg) roll, pickled veggie roll, and asparagus roll.
Mason A.

I initially was disappointed there were only four vegetarian options here (standard avocado roll, asparagus roll, a pretty basic pickled veggie roll, and a 'futomaki' veggie assort. roll with egg) and I was pretty underwhelmed with my order (I ordered a pickle veggie roll, an asparagus roll, and the futomaki). They were all pretty bland and can be ordered anywhere that serves sushi. They would be wise to up their vegetable roll game. The non-vegetarian sushis looked very ornate and interesting, it would be nice if they could get that creative with their vegetarian rolls...perhaps some fun sauces and a sweet potato tempura roll or asparagus tempura roll would be a good start. Also was a bit on the pricey side for three super basic veggie rolls at about 5 pieces each (my order was about $16-- it would've really sucked if I had to pay gratuity too). Bored and will most likely get my takeout sushi elsewhere next time I'm in the mood.

Poke so good.

This place is one of GR's hidden gems. It's located in a really nice farmers market just off the freeway. You have to come here just to try this place out. We ordered the poke and went upstairs to find a table. We got a good serving size for the money. The ingredients were fresh and the seasoned well. They also serve sushi and sashimi plates if that's what you prefer. Overall a really nice lunch experience at Sushi Market. Do try them out and take a break from the chain spots.

My wife and I wanted to go out for a little date night. I had been to the Sushi Market before, but not since they moved to their bigger stall. They are located in the Grand Rapids Downtown Market. We went around 6:25 pm, close to closing so we were the only ones sitting at the counter. We ordered four rolls and watched them get made. We didn't have to wait long before the sushi chef finished our rolls. The presentation was nice as designs were created with the different sauces. The rolls themselves were delicious and filling. While we were eating, the chef made us each a spoon of fresh fish with fresh veggies and some soy sauce on the house. Overall the staff is friendly, service quick and the food good. Prices are around average $47 total with tax for four special rolls. Definitely recommend.

An eel sauce panda....! I dig it.

I can dig it, though, because sometimes I am that person. But also, sometimes I am not that person, and I'm especially not that person when I just want to find a fully stocked aisle of children's medicine (Tylenol in bubble gum flavor, in fact) at a good price. Thankfully, Bridge Street Market is a little bougie, but not so bougie that it loses its Midwest Meijer roots. Anyway, I picked up my children's Tylenol, but I also stopped by the wine section before I checked out. Bridge Street Market has a large and fun wine area. I say fun because they take the time to label some of the wines on display with tasting notes and other descriptors. I was in the Italian section, so I picked up a bottle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, just based on how it was displayed on the shelf. The merchandising people at Bridge Street are doing a good job -- they made me pick up wine on a whim! (Which, to be honest, isn't that difficult, but still.) All of the checkout lanes are self-check-out, but there are people standing by to help.

This review is for Tom in the Meat Department! I'm in town…read morefor a short time and needed a standing rib roast for a small group celebrating a birthday. I called ahead of time and asked some questions, he was very informative. Later that day, I showed up with even more questions for Tom. He patiently answered them all and cut what ended up being the perfect amount of meat. I had just a little left over for some amazing breakfast tacos the next morning. In other stores I've been to, I don't usually get the kind of service he gave. I walked out confident (never having cooked a prime rib myself) that everything was going to be great. It truly was. Thank you, Tom and D & W!

Racks and pallets blocking entire aisles, product and merchandise on the floor, areas under construction that just look awful. Either complete the work overnight or temporarily close the store! There are usually minimal employees working and often the only option for checkout are the self-serve lanes. I liken the experience to the kind of place you would be sent on a side quest in a first-person zombie apocalypse video game. It's creepy, you waste time trying to find what you're looking for, and you are only happy when you gtfo. The best thing I can say about it is that it offers the local high school kids on off-campus lunch a place to buy a cheap meal or snack and now that the local Rite Aid is closed, it's the only place to buy package alcohol in Gaslight. The semi-recent overhaul and renovation of the Breton Village D&W made the Gaslight one look even worse by comparison. How this store managed to get THIS bad over the years is mind-boggling!
