I love the convenience of being able to order online. I got lunch combo A for my sushi order which included 5 yummy fresh pieces with a tiny rolled up cucumber roll. I thought the wasabi was better than most and had a kick to it which made me think it was more authentic and not just horseradish in disguise. I would def order here again. My family has long been in whole hearted agreement that this is the best quality sushi in town. It's one of the only places we order sashimi or nigiri, it's not just the quality of the fish, their chefs have been correctly trained in how to cut and prepare the slices. But in addition thanks to Sushi Market staff we actually received a Christmas miracle of kindness from this restaurant on Christmas Eve at about 1pm. Our Christmas had kind of fallen apart last minute with sick family (nothing terrible, but the family couldn't be together) So my husband and I decided to freeze the ham etc and surprise the kids with their favorite sushi. So we drove down ordered a bunch, and I sat at the bar to wait. When my order was ready they handed me an absolutely beautifully prepared tray of the sushi I had ordered! I had the chance to grab lunch at the DTM last week, and while I was wondering around looking at options.. sashimi sounded SO good. It has been a few years since I had tried the sushi at Sushi Market, so I thought I'd give them another try. I ordered the Sashimi Deluxe for $23 - it took about 5-10 minutes to put together and it packaged and sealed for me to take and eat wherever. Upon opening the large package, I was impressed with the care/ effort put into the looks of the combo. Fresh orange & lemon slices, lots of greenery, lots of white radish noodles, and a pretty flower! I was very happy to see they gave me a small side of soy sauce and not a bunch of packets! With this deluxe order you get 18 pcs of sashimi - 5 different kids of fish. I got 6 pcs of tuna and 4 other kinds of fish. I will say, I was quite impressed with the variety and all of them were very good! They all tasted very fresh and had great flavor. From what I remember, the last time I got their sashimi is was sliced very thin, these were nice, thick slices! I will admit... I ended up there for a second time that same week... GUILTY! read more

I've been going to Sushi Market for years. I have an allergy to wasabi. I always order my Lobster rolls without ginger and wasabi. By mistake, Johnny put wasabi on my order. When I got home and took a bite, I ate a few slices before eating a big bite of Wasabi. My mouth was on fire and I got hives. I called them and they said it was impossible that they put it on the plate. I told them I would bring it down the next day. I did. They admitted the mistake, Then refused to refund the price for the order or make a new one without wasabi. Bad manners and business ethics. read more

I would select a 0 star option but that doesn't exist. They wouldn't let me order sushi because I have a shellfish allergy. You have sushi rolls without shellfish but I can't bug them? I initially was disappointed there were only four vegetarian options here (standard avocado roll, asparagus roll, a pretty basic pickled veggie roll, and a 'futomaki' veggie assort. roll with egg) and I was pretty underwhelmed with my order (I ordered a pickle veggie roll, an asparagus roll, and the futomaki). They were all pretty bland and can be ordered anywhere that serves sushi. They would be wise to up their vegetable roll game. This place is one of GR's hidden gems. It's located in a really nice farmers market just off the freeway. You have to come here just to try this place out. We ordered the poke and went upstairs to find a table. We got a good serving size for the money. The ingredients were fresh and the seasoned well. They also serve sushi and sashimi plates if that's what you prefer. Overall a really nice lunch experience at Sushi Market. Do try them out and take a break from the chain spots. read more

My wife and I wanted to go out for a little date night. I had been to the Sushi Market before, but not since they moved to their bigger stall. They are located in the Grand Rapids Downtown Market. We went around 6:25 pm, close to closing so we were the only ones sitting at the counter. We ordered four rolls and watched them get made. We didn't have to wait long before the sushi chef finished our rolls. The presentation was nice as designs were created with the different sauces. The rolls themselves were delicious and filling. While we were eating, the chef made us each a spoon of fresh fish with fresh veggies and some soy sauce on the house. Overall the staff is friendly, service quick and the food good. Always looking for good sushi. And found another good place to grab some here in Grand Rapids. I had the special of 2 rolls for $8 and grabbed a special roll as well. So my lunch was over $20 but that was by choice. They also have a 3 roll special for $12 which is probably do next time. Portion sizes were very good and worth the price. Pretty solid sushi if not a little pricey, but the presentation was really nice and the fish was tender. We tried a mango something roll (see the pic), some eel and tuna nigiri and a spicy tuna roll. The tuna was fall-apart-tender and served at the right temperature but the rice lacked flavor giving the tuna a fishier taste than I expected. The eel was nice and the spicy tuna was tasty but not very spicy. I noticed that they add Togarashi to kick-up the spice level rather than some other type of spice or heat source but it was still a little weak on the heat. The wasabi was also really watered down and lacked punch. Service was fantastic but don't come expecting sake here...tea and soft drinks only. read more

This sushi bar located inside the Downtown Market seats about 8 at the counter. I stopped in on "Flight Friday," a special event at the market with different places offering flights. I did the sushi/sashimi/maki flight for $10. It came with tuna and shrimp sushi, salmon sashimi and a tempura shrimp roll. The tuna sushi didn't seem fresh and was pretty fishy tasting. The salmon was decent, definitely not the best I've had. The star was the tempura shrimp roll which was really good. They have good regular lunch specials (2 rolls for $8) so I might come back if I'm craving sushi for lunch, but this wouldn't be my first pick for sushi in town. I asked for a water and they gave me a bottle of water which was $1. I thought that was kind of weird, they should mention that if you order water. The girl who rang me up was not very friendly. Overall this is an ok option in the area, especially if you're looking for something quick and cheaper. Don't go here for amazing sushi though. read more

Awesome little sushi place in the marketplace. Their fish is fresh, their menu is reasonable priced and diverse. It exceeded my expectations for sure and was very enjoyable. A real shoutout to Britney who was so cool and gave us out of towners advice and she even saw us after her shift at another restaurant and asked us how our food was and gave us tips for traveling in the area. We've eaten here several times, but after a recent trip to San Francisco I knew I needed to take the time to write a review. I tried 2 different sushi places in San Francisco, and both were mediocre when comparing to Sushi Market. Sushi places in SF are plentiful, and if you read the reviews many of them are really good. But both well rated places were "meh" to me. So I feel blessed to have great sushi right here in GR. Sushi Market has awesome, delicious, fresh sushi and flavorful wasabi. The service is usually so fast it makes your head spin. These folks are top notch and you will be very happy here. The prices are reasonable too. They used very little fish in my sushi compared to most sushi restaurants. The servers were extremely arrogant and to make things worse about 20min after I ate there I got a horrible upset stomach that lasted for hours. To be clear i eat sushi all the time. My favorites in town are maru, rockwell and tokyo grill. I love good sushi and good service and this place had neither, i might have put up with the bad sushi and just never gone back but my stomach hurts badly so i had to leave a review. read more
