Every time I go in Meijer I really do receive the most amazing experience. I even had the opportunity to chat with the store manager. But In my view that's worth a least four stars alone. Everyone in the Midwest knows this is to be preferred over wal-mart any day. Shopping at Meijer is never my first choice for shopping. The store is bright, inviting, and comfortable to shop, but the service is poor. They rarely have enough staff, to accommodate the customers and finding help who know whats in the store can be a challenge. I still stop by when i need a few items. read more

Every month I come to this Meijer pharmacy n last 3 months I wait a very long time. Told 45 minutes n it ends up being 2. I don't live here so waiting two hours the driving almost two hours is ridiculous. There's always a reason they r so late all time. After waiting over hour n half I end up transferring it to a closer Meijer. Which ends up taking my whole day. They are not proficient here. And they never let you know why something is happening. Same feedback. Terrible layout. Not much probably can be done with the department layout but please do something about the restroom situation. You really need to have centralized common restroom at the front instead of single toilets scattered around the store. The last thing a customer wants to do is go all over the place hunting for these toilets. Even the employees feel the same way. Yes, I talked to some of them. Meijer - Tucked in a corner.... - Grocery Near Me - Grand Rapids, Michigan

Long time GR residents may know this Meijers by one of several colorful nicknames it's acquired over the years. While I won't write them all out, needless to say, they reflect the wide range of customers, slow service (seriously, only 3 isles open on a weekend?!), and poorly maintained store functionality you will inevitably experience here. What saves this Meijers for me is that someone working with Meijer's once told me that this location has the lowest prices out of any other Meijer's in the area. I haven't done any direct comparing of this but it seems to be true- my bill does seem less here. Besides being cheap, I gotta hand it to them for having a really diverse world food isle and a decent gluten free selections (given the size of the store). They carry a super cheap coconut water that I found in the world food section. It's just as good as the pricey, brand stuff in my smoothies. read more

Not my favorite of the Meijer locations, but when in Rome (or in this case Michigan)... Like most Meijer there are acres of shopping, but it's the layout that's the real problem here. A very disjointed experience, so the flow of the store isn't overly conducive to browsing. This is probably a good thing as Meijer likes to offer lots of shopping possibilities, so best to go with a list and stick to it. The parking isn't ideal either but that may have to do with location alone. Real estate aside, you can always count on decent customer service at Meijer. I've had no problem finding friendly help when needed and people willing to go above and beyond to ensure I've found what I was looking for. read more

Tonight, about 915, I came in through the self checkout by produce where a customer did something to the young lady running self checkout. She has glasses, blonde hair, about 5'7. Anyways, he made her cry and as the line grew and all the self-checkouts were blinking red and others needed her assistance, she called for help and collected herself, and continued to help everyone. She's an amazing team member that should be recognized for continuing to help guests while crying because someone got angry at her. read more

The store is dirty, their self check kiosks are terrible but they will have one lane open for check out. They eliminated the gluten free allergy friendly section and selection. Pricing has gone up with quality down. Last time shopping there today-there is absolutely nothing that makes them stand out from other choices any more. What is so difficult about writing out a rain check on an Meat item you advertise? It's not like they won't be coming in, in a day or two. The meat counter guy tells me the cashier will write me one. Get thru that line and informs me the customer service has to write it out......after 30 min waiting in that line for there's only one person working.....informs me they can't write me one because of "the systems being slow", and that you don't do those anymore.....can't blame this on the pandemic, or staff, or anything else. Fix your policies. Meijer's is not what it once was.....sad!!! read more

Rude, oblivious, lazy That describes most of "those" Meijer employees here. New store, but you can't keep the riff-raff out. Littered parking lot, dirty floors, filthy bottle return room "People" out front asking for money, cigarettes, etc. (usual recycled stories they use -- even at the Meijer gas station across the street) Employees at self-serve lanes ignore flashing red lights -- you have to go up to the employee station or wave your hand. At their stations, I've witnessed them eating Girl Scout cookies and other foods. Service desk is ridiculous -- one lazy employee eating pork rinds after doing a Western Union transaction while a line of patrons wait. Oh, they also enjoy texting, that important text takes priority over serving the customer. It's the closest Meijer to me, unfortunately. During my stay in Grand Rapids, my boyfriend's one request was that we visit a Meijer's at some point because they're just insanely ginormous and don't exist on the East coast. Well, his one request I was going to comply with anyway--the other was to visit the hunting depot Cabela's, the self-reported #1 tourist destination of Michigan. Not that he hunts, he was just curious. Driving toward the Meijer's building was a bit surreal. As far as mega-retailers go, Meijer's is by far the mega-est. The pure girth of the building would impress even the most timeworn blasé porn star and the facade of the building, impressed artificially with the veneer of Small Town, USA, made it appear to be a self-contained neighborhood or movie set. It seemed a bit presumptuous to think that a store could serve all of the functions of multiple shops, but then again, I'd never been inside a Meijer's before. Stepping inside and visiting different departments, I realized that's precisely how extensive Meijer's is. Beauty department? Impeccable. They even had their own organic section. Pets? It was as if the amoeba of Meijer's absorbed a PETCO. And then a car goods place. And a grocery store. A bakery...etc. The crown jewel of Meijer's is by far the complete liquor store within the rest of the store. PA, with its weirdo prude just-the-tip-game laws about booze, could never pull this off. To top it off, all departments were actually run by people that knew what they were talking about--meaning that there was a liquor distributor with more than 15 years of experience running the department. We received excellent recommendations, gained knowledge about local breweries, and learned what to look for when selecting wines from Michigan (FYI: the best wines come from the viticultural region of the Old Mission Peninsula). The one department that was lacking was the clothing department. Target rules by far in terms of clothes, but Meijer's is giving them a run for their money in all other aspects. read more

WOW!!! What a HUGE store!!! LOTS of food! Lots of stuff. Clothing, meh... but MAN, this place could give BevMo a run for their money in terms of booze and other beverages!!! =:-O They also have a reasonable drug store area too so I can get all the sample toiletries I needed during my stay in Grand Rapids! :) They even have a German shelf that has a gift I was looking for all over Grand Rapids -- almond cookies! :D They have sampling stations so that I'm not starving as I'm shopping around. :) Price is also very reasonable! This location is always crazy busy, be warned. There is no breathing room, and not enough cashiers to checkout. It's faster to use self check assuming the mouth breathers aren't stuck like a deer in the headlights trying to figure out how to weigh a banana. The shelves are well stocked though, and they have a ton of variety. The produce section has improved lately, I picked up some amazing strawberries today that were fair priced even though they were out of season. No Deli Deluxe Kraft Singles though? That's all my fiance asked for when I went in, they had every other Kraft Single except that one. read more

Using a wheelchair is hard enough. When the doors are locked without notice, (the east doors) at night. Please use signage so you patrons aren't surprised by the locked doors. I parking handicap at the East end by the pharmacy, shopped, and to my shock, the doors were locked and I had to go all the way around in the rain and weather. Not cool. Please post signs as to when those doors will be locked. As to the status of the store overall.... Services are great and store is laid out well. Staff is the best. read more

I give this store a 3 star rating for three reasons: 1. This store is smaller than the other Meijer stores 2. This place has less items than the other Meijers (comparing to Grandville and 54th st in Wyoming) 3. You have to go to the west end of the store for dairy and frozen products. read more

I like the prices, variety of goods, convenience, and size of Meijer stores in general. I've found that the cleanliness and good customer service of the Grand Rapids area Meijers aren't universal, the Meijers stores in Illinois pale in comparison. This one is very convenient if you're visiting and staying in one of the many nearby motels. If you're not from around here and never been to a Meijer's Thrifty Acres, you're missing out. If you are from around here, then you already know there are a couple of Meijers that are even bigger and newer, and just might be worth the extra drive if you have lots of shopping to do. read more

I used to be a HUGE brand advocate of Meijer when I lived in Grand Rapids and stood my ground the first few years I was in DC. However, now that I've seen other stores across the country and world, I know just like Meijer, not love. It's your basic store in between Target (on the higher end) and Walmart (on the lower end). One thing Meijer has going for them is that it's cheap and they use very simple large signs to help guide you through your shopping trip. Staff are friendly as well. read more

Harassment at Meijer on 28th st - Apparently Meijer on 28th is screening folks that look a little different - having tattoos or whatnot - because while leaving Meijer last night my fiancé and I were stopped by some Meijer security guy and told that he had to check out receipts and bags (keep in mind this is before we got through the doors and no door alarm was activated). I did not see anyone's bags being checked before or after ours. I asked him "are you doing this to everyone now?" and he said "no that would be impossible" so obviously we were singled out. I keep thinking "what if I had purchased some personal items that I would not have been comfortable with him shuffling through?!" Wont be going back again!! read more

This is the Meijer that's closest to my house, but I rarely visit it. It is unusually organized, and hard to casually shop. Meijer would have done better with a smaller shop--maybe grocery only?--in this location. read more

The building is nice because it was just remodeled. But don't let that fool you, there is still some odd things that go on here as far as where they stock things. I wouldn't say it's as bad as the one on Alpine, but we drive 2 miles further to a different location. (68th and Kalamazoo) read more

While I love Meijer, in general, they really need to "beef up" security at the Kalamazoo/28th St. Meijer in Grand Rapids. I just had my wristlet/wallet stolen out of my shopping cart. Luckily, I was able to cancel all of my banking and credit cards quickly, so all they got was $13 and a nice wallet. But ... it makes me think twice about shopping here. Have heard that parking lot security is also an issue. read more
