I gave it three chances ordering different items and combinations of food (thinking surely it was a fluke) and its just not very good. Was drawn to a place that has sushi and chinese options because my husband isn't a sushi fan. Unfortunately, each time the sushi was extremely bland and the chinese offerings were almost inedible. The sauces can only be described as gelatinous. The fried rice was consistently decent so if you just want fried rice this place should be fine but if you're looking for quality sushi or chinese entrees it would probably be wise to look elsewhere. You can get a lot of sushi for the price, no doubt, but every time I felt like I overpaid for the qualify I received. Stopped in for AYCE sushi lunch as they have everything 15%off right now to draw in new customers. It wasnt bad. But it wasnt good. My favorites were the Eel and Volcano rolls but most of the sushi is just bland or seemed missing something for some reason. Some rolls are small but most arent bad in size and they definitely dont go heavy on the rice as filler so thats a plus. But the filler instead comes in the form of either avacado or cucumber which is used in every roll practically. It was a filling lunch but i wont be back. When i came in for the AYCE lunch menu, i was advertised the dinner one instead. It seemed implied that it would be at lunch price by how they were offering and pushing the dinner menu during the lunch hour as she said "better value" and it wasnt dinner yet. This is NOT an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. This is basically a Chinese restaurant, with Japanese decor. If you are budget-minded and need a sushi-fix, it's "ok", but anyone having been to an upscale Japanese restaurant (or having actually lived in Japan) will definitely notice the difference. And beware of ordering green tea with the all-you-can-eat sushi special, they will smack you with an extra $1.75 for that. Kinda sleazy, in my opinion. Only reason I give 2 stars is because the food is actually really good. Sushi was excellent. However, the service is what made this place not so great. Long story short, when we arrived and were seated I filled out the AYCE sheet and handed it to Amy, the server. She didn't say "welcome" or any greeting. When I handed her my sheet she's like "you want AYCE?" And I said "Yes" pointing to the sheet I clearly filled out. She said "it's $29.99" and I said "I know." And then she questioned me again asking if that's what I wanted -- like I couldn't afford it or was illiterate. I felt very unwelcome after that. Each time she brought out things we ordered, she just placed them down and didn't even say "enjoy!" Poor customer service. Every time I thanked her she just ignored me. Then it took her a while to come grab the finished plates when they weren't even busy. There were like 2 other tables there. Then she started yelling at her coworker which made things even more uncomfortable. I'm assuming the customer service and atmosphere is why most people seem to order take out! read more

Went there for the first time with my hubby for dinner. We did the All-you-can-eat for $21.99 The selection was great and the food was good quality. I like that they spaced out the table delivery, instead of bringing everything all at once. We ordered mochi ice cream for dessert. It wasn't that good...but when our server noticed that I didn't eat it, she asked what was wrong. I told her that the outer shell was tough and not soft and sticky as it should. This is such a gem for sushi in the Chicagoland area! If you love sushi it's worth traveling 30 minutes or more! It's a shame the place isn't very busy most of the time, but don't let that discourage you. We moved to Colorado in March 2017 and cannot find anything even remotely close to the quality and price of the sushi here, especially the all you can eat (AYCE) sushi special. This is one of the only places we've been to that doesn't take the lazy route and use Siracha for their spicy tuna/salmon sauce. They actually use a sauce based with chili oil. And their rolls have the perfect amount of rice. Please give them a try so they stay in business when we come back to Chicagoland to visit family and make multiple trips there! read more

Went to this place on a whim. My husband and I had a craving for sushi and wanted to try somewhere with all you can eat. I was excited to see a pretty large array of offerings for the AYCE menu, that was a positive start. We had ordered appetizers: Gyoza, tempura vegetables, salt and pepper squid, fried shrimp, fried scallops, seaweed salad, crab Rangoon, spring rolls, edamame and miso soup. I was so excited to try their rendition of Gyoza (and while I know they would not be the same as I make them at home), I found them to unfortunately be soggy. The miso soup unfortunately did not have any flavor to it. Overall most of the fried items needed a little salt finish; however was they were the saving grace and the reason for giving it 2 stars. The sushi: we had the nigiri (item on top of rice) and maki rolls (princess roll, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, volcano, rainbow roll). The rice was NOT seasoned with the vinegar, sugar, mirin solution and the rice was slightly gummy (maybe it was forgotten and accidently over cooked). Thank you sushi kings for making it right. We ordered our sushi about an hour and half before they were about to close, and unfortunately the driver could not find our address. We live in condos in carpentersville. It can be kind of tricky to find us. After about 30-40min of the driver not being able to find us, we gave up and told them to cancel our order. But By the good graces of god, we hear our door bell ring at 10pm. Keep in mind they close at 9:30pm and it's freezing outside. They're this beautiful lady is, with our order and it's on the house. Good food, okay service. We went last Saturday night and, at most, we saw five other people in a restaurant that could easily hold 50. The language barrier was challenging, especially as they tried to explain the two menus (one menu was only for the All You Can Eat), and warn us that there's a $0.15/piece penalty for any sushi you don't eat if you order All You Can Eat. That said, my husband reminded me that the language barrier is a good sign that it's authentic! The All You Can Eat was a good deal at $20.99/person when many of the specialty rolls were $10+. There was a decent variety on the All You Can Eat menu, including quite a few specialty rolls. And the food seemed very fresh. I've had better sushi, but not often. First off I want everyone to know the food and the service was fine. Me and my wife had the all you can eat for $21.99 each. The sushi was very good the server did not ask if we wanted another drink but that was OK because we didn't. The food came out quickly and the presentation was very nice. My problem came a few days later when I noticed my bill on my account. The original bill was $63.04 I had left a $13 tip bringing it to $76.04 and you know how they divide the bill from the tip so I noticed my Tips charge was $13.29 instead of the $13 so I figured it out that this restaurant is secretly charging you personal income tax on the tip you're leaving them which I believe is fraudulent. I just moved to the area and I am looking for my new go to sushi restaurant. Sushi King is right down the street an I was hoping it would be the place. My boyfriend and I opened the door and got blasted in the face with a nasty smell of wet dog and yeast in the vestibule. Gross pungent smell. We thought maybe it could be dirty mop water from "cleaning" the entrance, so we continued into the restaurant and the smell permitted the entire restaurant. We turned around and walked out. No way we could eat sushi with that smell! Plus, how clean could the kitchen be with that smell taking over the entire place? So we went over to Kumi. We walked in there and were greeted with the delicious smell of panko and seaweed and said to each other "Now this is the RIGHT smell!" So glad we walked out of sushi king. read more

Idk how to give zero stars but oh my. I'll just say the food is good. But on their menu there isnt an all you can eat option so my boyfriend and I went and ordered rolls which we thought was about $5 a roll but We ended up paying way over. When going in someone waved us away to tell us to sit wherever. Our waiter also never introduced herself, explained how the restaurant worked and just said in a rude tone "what do you want to drink".
