My friends and I were very happy to find a Japanese restuarant in Qualicum Beach during our visit! Considering there aren't many Asian influenced restaurants in the area the food here is pretty decent with reasonable pricing. We ordered ebi mayo, salmon oishi, beef teriyaki and tokoyaki. The salmon oishi was decorated very cute with a bunny shaped quail egg and there was good flavour and amount of fish in each bite. The tokoyaki was but undercooked but I liked the crispiness of the outside. It was a nice stop to temporarily fulfill our sushi cravings, but not a lot of places can compare to the sushi we have in Vancouver!

Based on reviews we decided to give this place a try and we were not disappointed. We each had a Hama box & ordered a sushi roll & nigiri on the side. Way too much but at least we took our leftovers home for later. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious. We're here on vacation and plan at least another visit before we leave. Prices are amazing for what you get! Service was excellent & the place was busy with takeouts & dine in customers.

My two kids (5 and 8) and I were visiting Qualicum Beach for the day and were looking for a good place to stop for lunch. We weren't thinking of sushi (who goes to Qualicum Beach to have sushi???) but we just happened to walk by Sushi Hama and ran into one of the staff outside. After a nice chat we decided to give it a try and boy, were we glad we did! The staff were really friendly. The chef, who is Japanese and trained in Japan, created a flower out of a cucumber end for my daughter! Nice blade work. We ordered a bento box, chicken udon, and 4 rolls. Ingredients were fresh and tasty. The chicken in the udon were grilled first and there were lots of fresh veggies in the bowl. To top it off, they provided us a complimentary dessert - deep fried banana! We've been to many Japanese places in and around Vancouver and Richmond and this is definitely one of the best experiences we've had. This is a small restaurant and just opened last week. Judging from this experience I'm sure they'll be around for a long time. We will be back for sure!

Had a craving for sushi on our weekend getaway on the Island and decided to try Sushi Hama as it was recommended by our Air Bnb host. Made reservations on the day of and when we arrived around 7pm, most of the tables were taken. It's a nice family friendly, casual restaurant with cute monthly drawing contests for children. Staff was attentive and friendly. We shared a few dishes including the Salmon aburi, ebi mayo, takoyaki and beef teriyaki with rice. The ebi mayo had a nice sauce but the prawns were a bit overcooked. I liked the texture and taste of the takoyaki and the beef terriyaki was tender and flavourful. The aburi was good but not the best I've had. Worth a visit if you're in the Qualicum Beach area!

The Spicy Roll combo was excellent! You can taste the freshness of the tuna/salmon

By far one of the best sushi experiences I've ever had! The Bay Island Roll is absolutely astonishing. That same roll in Toronto is $30! It is a must have roll if you come to this lovely, warm and friendly establishment. The service was great, the taste was amazing and the memories of the dishes were lasting. Put it this way, once i'm on my way back from Tofino and passing by Qualicum Beach... i'm stopping by for another Bay Island Roll!

Had wonderful sushi. Service was really good. Limited seating, people were turned away when we were here. We tried our first deep fried roll and it was delicious. I would go here again in a heartbeat.

Never had a Takoyaki like this! It's so great! Prob the best Takoyaki on the island!

Chef made this while we were paying for our meal! Crazy knife skills

Having tried sushi from every restaurant on vancouver Island South and North Island we were surprised when this tiny restaurant served us the best Bento box we have yet been served. Staff are lovely and genuinely concerned about your satisfaction. We have been back 5 times since they opened and can't wait for the next visit! Long live sushi hama!

The food was great and the service decent, but the place could use some paint, decor and music.

We finally had to find out what all the hype was about!…read more We kept seeing this Japanese restaurant get top ratings and heard it was really popular in Nanaimo, so we decided to try it for ourselves. Was it actually worth all the hype? We ordered the Sora Omakase Sashimi (8 types, chef's choice) along with a few other special rolls, and the sashimi was the real star of the show. The fish was incredibly fresh and generously thick-cut, with a great variety of premium sashimi. We were impressed by the creativity, generous portions, and presentation. Compared to other sushi places we've tried in the city, the quality and attention to detail here really made a difference. The prices are a bit higher than some other restaurants on the island, but after tasting the food, we thought the quality made it worth it. If you love sashimi, we especially recommend trying their sashimi options. There are plenty of premium choices. The restaurant itself has a modern-chic atmosphere, and it was BUSY. We saw a mix of locals, visitors, and a steady stream of takeout orders. Despite the crowd, our food came out surprisingly quickly, and the quality stayed top-notch. Whether you want a casual sushi night for two or a place to celebrate with a group, the menu has enough variety to please everyone. We came in wondering if the hype was real, and left understanding exactly why it's so popular. Honestly, Nori deserves the 5 stars from us. We're not the Michelin Guide, but we can definitely see why people are talking about it. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 4/5 Presentation: 4/5 Parking: 3/5 Tips: * Reservations are highly recommended. * Walk-ins are accepted, but be prepared for a potentially long wait during busy times. * The menu is extensive, so take your time deciding. * Great option for everything from date night to group celebrations. Man, my card was one short of a free sub. However, this is one of the tastiest sushi restaurants in Parksville, and is modern, and very attractive in their decor. They have an excellent variety of sushi, that is always super tasty. They also are very nice staff. They are very busy around supper time, so make sure you have time to wait for your meal. I try to go there and do a pickup, but usually it takes up to 15 minutes, so you might want to pre-order if you can. Very clean establishment, limited parking.

Our order came without utensils, one napkin, no soya sauce. The food was subpar including the miso soup that tasted like water. We had to eat with our hands. By the time we got our food the place was closed so we were unable to follow up. We took the time to drop in the next day as we paid a large amount of money. We asked to speak with someone. We were told that there was no manager to speak with. The owner was called and he refused to speak with us. It was more than just a horrible culinary experience. It was about the follow up and customer service. I would recommend supporting businesses that treat their customers with respect.

Inspired by the shops of Vancouver, LA, and Tokyo, and driven by their love of noodles, Greg and Erin Masuda served the first bowl of authentic, scratch-made ramen that Vancouver Island had ever seen. Six years and 40 flavours later, Nikkei Ramen-ya still bustles; if you can't make it to our shop in Downtown Courtenay, you can now find our ramen at your local Vancouver Island grocer. From silky Tonkotsu to vegan-friendly options and crisp karaage chicken, we've got something for every craving. Gluten-free options are available Our review- We met a friend for dinner, we went early at about 4.30pm, it wasn't crowded yet. Ordered our ramen on an electronic kiosk menu board... By the electronic menu board, there are table # stand. Chose a number & put the number that you chose onto your order as identification. Then place the number stand on your table. The noodles were very good, nice soup broth... we enjoyed the noodles very much, we also added a side dish of green beans, dressing on the beans was like the Japanese spinach (Gomae). Beans was crunchy & with that dressing, it was yummy. Overall a very good experience, do check it out if you are in downtown Courtney. You will not be disappointed ! I didn't care too much for the broth (definitely a lot of umani flavor for the dashi) as it wasn't a type of broth i was use to. It wasn't bad but just not my style. The noodles were good. The bamboo shoot was different too but tasted a bit sweet? The pork belly was too thin in my opinion. I'm use to a more fatty pork belly. Soy sauce marinated egg is extra but we gave it a try. You can get "free" extra ramen if you do a review for them. Just scan QR code on the table. You order at the kiosk and pick up your own bowl of ramen. No tip asked.
