We were all hungry just decided to drive/walk around Qualicum town. Everybody was hungry so we all just agreed to Sushi in which it was just a block away from us. We were looking forward to dining however Covid happened-take out only. Nothing to fret about the beach was 9 mins by car. We ordered the simplest food Dynamite roll with beef teriyaki bento and takoyaki. They took their time cooking the beef teriyaki because it was definitely fresh. I loved the dynamite roll perfect portion of rice and the crab filling. I'd like to comeback here again! read more

This is a great sushi restaurant in downtown Qualicum Beach. Being vegetarian, I can only speak to the quality of the veggie bento box which we enjoy every time we go to the restaurant, but other customers look like they enjoy their selections too. Service is good. read more

My friends and I were very happy to find a Japanese restuarant in Qualicum Beach during our visit! Considering there aren't many Asian influenced restaurants in the area the food here is pretty decent with reasonable pricing. We ordered ebi mayo, salmon oishi, beef teriyaki and tokoyaki. The salmon oishi was decorated very cute with a bunny shaped quail egg and there was good flavour and amount of fish in each bite. The tokoyaki was but undercooked but I liked the crispiness of the outside. It was a nice stop to temporarily fulfill our sushi cravings, but not a lot of places can compare to the sushi we have in Vancouver! read more

Based on reviews we decided to give this place a try and we were not disappointed. We each had a Hama box & ordered a sushi roll & nigiri on the side. Way too much but at least we took our leftovers home for later. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious. We're here on vacation and plan at least another visit before we leave. I don't recommend it. The California Roll was disappointing. The chicken in the bento box was dry, flat, and overcooked. The gyoza wasn't Japanese; they were Chinese dumplings, fried, and dry. You are better off going to McDonald's--I like McDonald's. read more

My two kids (5 and 8) and I were visiting Qualicum Beach for the day and were looking for a good place to stop for lunch. We weren't thinking of sushi (who goes to Qualicum Beach to have sushi???) but we just happened to walk by Sushi Hama and ran into one of the staff outside. After a nice chat we decided to give it a try and boy, were we glad we did! The staff were really friendly. The chef, who is Japanese and trained in Japan, created a flower out of a cucumber end for my daughter! Nice blade work. We ordered a bento box, chicken udon, and 4 rolls. Ingredients were fresh and tasty. The chicken in the udon were grilled first and there were lots of fresh veggies in the bowl. To top it off, they provided us a complimentary dessert - deep fried banana! We've been to many Japanese places in and around Vancouver and Richmond and this is definitely one of the best experiences we've had. This is a small restaurant and just opened last week. Judging from this experience I'm sure they'll be around for a long time. We will be back for sure! read more

Had a craving for sushi on our weekend getaway on the Island and decided to try Sushi Hama as it was recommended by our Air Bnb host. Made reservations on the day of and when we arrived around 7pm, most of the tables were taken. It's a nice family friendly, casual restaurant with cute monthly drawing contests for children. Staff was attentive and friendly. We shared a few dishes including the Salmon aburi, ebi mayo, takoyaki and beef teriyaki with rice. The ebi mayo had a nice sauce but the prawns were a bit overcooked. I liked the texture and taste of the takoyaki and the beef terriyaki was tender and flavourful. The aburi was good but not the best I've had. Worth a visit if you're in the Qualicum Beach area! read more

By far one of the best sushi experiences I've ever had! The Bay Island Roll is absolutely astonishing. That same roll in Toronto is $30! It is a must have roll if you come to this lovely, warm and friendly establishment. The service was great, the taste was amazing and the memories of the dishes were lasting. Put it this way, once i'm on my way back from Tofino and passing by Qualicum Beach... i'm stopping by for another Bay Island Roll! read more

Having tried sushi from every restaurant on vancouver Island South and North Island we were surprised when this tiny restaurant served us the best Bento box we have yet been served. Staff are lovely and genuinely concerned about your satisfaction. We have been back 5 times since they opened and can't wait for the next visit! Long live sushi hama! read more

Don't let the modest interior fool you. The food is of the calibre you would pay far more for in a fancy decor restaurant in Vancouver. Tried the "Jalapeño Bomb", at the suggestion of the server when asking what was unique on their menu. And had tuna sashimi that was of top quality. Lyndsay had tempura and the "Qualicum Roll". All were quite good, made by Peter and his team. There is customer drawn art on the walls, as part of an ongoing monthly contest. So feel free to bring your pencil crayon sketching skills! read more

We had the sashimi and a couple of rolls. The sashimi was half frozen which is the way I like it and the rolls were super tasty. Good gyoza too. There were a couple of families in the restaurant at the same time, which made it a little noisy, however, didn't deter us from enjoying our food. When we're in the area, we will return. read more

Best sushi in Qualicum beach! We stayed in Canada for 3 days and had sushi Hama for 3 times. The chef was very nice and carved a flower and a swan for us! Very good service. Bento box, tempura udon and unagi roll are recommended. read more

There is a reason this little restaurant has great reviews! Great sushi!!! It's a tiny lot little spot tucked in a mock European village looking Qualicum Beach Street where you can expect the sidewalks to be rolled up even on a Saturday night. Apparently it's the place for families with small children who are learning to drink green tea and eat sushi. The cook came out around the corner to check in us. This tiny spot is a great find and avoids many of the pitfalls that bedevil Japanese restaurants. It's not fancy but they deliver on food. The bento boxes were incredibly reasonably priced and all the ingredients were fresh. The sushi rolls were also fresh and had not been sitting around all day. Service was good but the wait times at peak were long. That's probably to be expected since so much seems made to order. read more
