Simply delicious. We ordered the tuna and salmon sashimi, toro, and spicy tuna, spicy salmon and Kama-Kazi hand cones. All AMAZING. Being an Alberta-girl, I have never been served salmon so fresh. It's color was beautiful, a deep red with minimal fat. No farmed salmon at this restaurant! All the fish was melt in your mouth and very generous portions for the price. The service was really good too. We had the most kick-ass server. When you come in, ask for Joanne. She makes great recommendations and is so friendly, attentive and helpful. We came here on our first night in Parksville, after a long, tiring travel day. We came here based on our resort front office staff recommendation. Very quick service, and food was excellent. We ordered a bottle of a Richmond, BC based YK3 sake to start. What a pleasant surprise that there are great local based sakes available! The sashimi was melt in your mouth amazing. Sushi roll was fresh and good. The seafood gyoza and quail egg/ tuna tartare were very good as well. I know there are other site reviews criticizing the warm dishes, but honestly, who goes to a sushi restaurant to order chicken teriyaki ?! The place was family friendly as well, with kids all around the dining room scarfing down their meals. The black sesame ice cream was a perfect way to end the evening. Seems appropriate to update my review after almost 10 years of frequent visits. There are many - too many? - sushi choices in Parksville, and we have tried a few, but none compares to our old favourite. Consistently excellent food and service in comfortable surroundings. Don't walk, run away from this place. We went back after having good sushi a year ago. Now, tempura consisted of one onion ring, one skinny prawn, a piece of overcooked broccoli, a paper thin carrot and sweet potato. The rolls were so small - better value from a grocery store. The food here is actually really decent. But be warned when you go to pay there is no way at all to NOT leave a tip on their debit machine. This is fine as who doesn't tip on a site down meal right? well they do take out too, and who tips much if anything on take out? I found it rude when the cashier/waitress smirked at me as she could see me trying to get out of the tip option. VERY rude. That little thing alone means I will now go elsewhere to get my sushi. Sushi here was great and they have good pricing as well. The woman who helped us was really nice and we received great service. I'd give the sushi a 9 out of 10 because I've gone to some really great sushi spots, but giving a 4 star for the overall experience. We came here because it was one of the few Japanese restaurants opened on a Sunday here in Parksville. As we drove into the parking lot we recalled we've been here a few years before and we thought it was just ok then. Well it's still just ok now. :( The chicken teri don was average. The sauce tasted like it was straight out of a bottle from the local grocery store - in other words nothing special. The broth for the udon was flavourless. The California rolls were fine. The main reason for the low rating was we waited a long time before we received our food. And when we did get it one of our orders - the sushi actually - took even longer that by the time the server did bring it out we had already finished the others dishes. read more

I ordered chicken teriyaki for takeout. It was the worst takeout meal I have ever had. A few stir fried, or steamed veggies in some water coloured by a bit of brown spice. The chicken was a few slices of what appeared to be, and tasted like it was already prepackaged and processed. Absolutely no teriyaki sauce. This long-time favourite in Parksville deserves is reputation. The service is friendly, and the food is GREAT. I love the rolls they do with the tofu/soy wrappers. A Parksville Roll is a great intro for those who are unsure about raw fish -- it's huge, with cooked salmon or tuna, and is NOT ON THE MENU! So, it's a local secret. If you want to show someone how great sushi is, this roll is the ticket. They make awesome sunimono salad, edememe, and gyoza too. read more

This place is horrible, the service is bad, food takes sooo long to arrive, not worth the price they're asking, you get charged for green tea (although the waitress said it was free)-and it comes in a teabag, not loose. The only business they do is from the locals who don't know what good, authentic Japanese food tastes like because they don't have anything to compare it to.
