Fresh and friendly spot! Welcome respite and hospitality for us sailors visiting Ladysmith. We had Gangster Roll and Black Dragon Roll. Each was flavorful, carefully composed, bursting with freshness and color.

My girlfriend is in this little town for a job so I decided to tag along. After almost 5 hours of traveling we were starving. So I checked on yelp to find a good place to eat. So obviously this place doesn't have much variety coming from Miami! So I found this sushi place on Yelp with good reviews. So it is literally right next to KFC and you can't miss it. The decor inside is super cute. I'm vegan and my girlfriend is not so Asian is usually the best option for us. We both picked a bento box. I have to say the food was delicious. The miso soup was perfect. The rolls were a little big but delicious. Everything was good. We also went almost during closing time I assume because I saw the waitress put some sushi filled plates on a table near us. By the time I paid and was leaving I saw that everyone from the kitchen sat and ate dinner. In miami it's hard to find places that will even feed their employees and for me to see this made me feel happy. I love employers who take care of their employees.

Just moved to Duncan and was disappointed after going to Sushi House. We're sooooo glad we found Sushi Wara by far the best sushi I've tried on the island. The service is exceptional they remember us every time we go in there and always delicious food every time. Definitely worth the 30 min drive to have a great experience. Me and my husband are vegan and they have plenty of options. We usually like to get the veggie lunch box which is such a good deal for all the food that is included. Just be sure to ask for no sauce on the potato coquette they use mayo in it. We also love getting the avo kappa roll with mango salsa on top to die for! The Sakura roll is also really good. We definitely will continue to go back here when we have that sushi craving!!

Where did this place come from?! !? Stopped in off the highway and was blown away. Some of the best sushi I've found. Great service, fantastic prices, great food. Will be stopping again on all future trips through Ladysmith. Easy 5 stars.

After reading the rave reviews, the landlubber boys and I decided to drop in for lunch. Our overall experience was disappointing and certainly not what we expected. The servers were friendly and welcoming, although the quality of service was lacking. Hits: the Lunch Combos are very affordable; ranging from $11 to $14.95. Hubby's Lunch Combo C was fairly presentable--the miso soup was a bit salty and the salmon, tuna, and shrimp nigiri was nothing to write home about. The tempura (which included only one shrimp, yam and squash) was lightly battered and crunchy. Misses: our green tea strainer was sitting up too high in the tea pot, so you had to wait a while for the tea to steep. Even after ten minutes, mostly hot water poured out. Our server decided to put more tea in the strainer instead of replacing the strainer or teapot. After that, there was still more hot water coming out than tea... The wild sockeye salmon sashimi caught my eye (not included in a Lunch Combo), and seeing that we were in salmon country, I wanted to have a taste. The sashimi was strange--the texture was okay, but it tasted more bland than tap water. How disappointing. I was expecting the familiar slightly sweet taste of salmon; maybe even more so with wild sockeye. It also looked like someone had taken a bite out of three pieces of the sashimi (poor technique and presentation). Our server was apologetic but she didn't give the sushi chefs our feedback. The pan-fried gyoza was awful--it was so greasy, you couldn't even taste the filling. At the risk of breaching protocol, I've decided to include a review from my 16 year old son, CJ: "I ordered the beef teriyaki combo, and while it was flavourful, the meat looked as if someone chewed it before spitting it back onto the plate. My gyoza was so greasy that the paper underneath was saturated with oil--when I bit into it, I just tasted pan fried grease. This was the only time I used the gyoza sauce to choke down each bite. The California rolls were tasty, but they looked visciously cut and crafted. I never thought I'd see myself in a Japanese restaurant where they were so inefficient with their sushi roll technique." Overall, we had a below average experience. We're not going back anytime soon.

I hate giving negative reviews, but my experience at Sushi Wara was disappointing overall. The service is friendly, and the Lunch Combo C was a decent value, but the gyoza was super greasy and the wild sockeye salmon sashimi was strangely bland. I was surprised because previous reviewers gave the sushi high marks. I can think of several sushi restaurants in landlocked Calgary that serve way better sushi. Perhaps I missed out on the clue that Sushi Wara is between a KFC and a McDonald's, so it may be that the expectations of their usual patrons are lower than average. The trouble with experiencing good sushi is that it spoils you forever.

Small Family-owned Japanese Restaurant [Chemainus BC]…read more Wow! The last review posted was written 5 years ago. They originally offered table service but when Covid hit they only did take out and until now in September 2023 they still only do takeout orders. There are two tables for use in the dining room (good for up to 4 seating each) but there is no dining service available. This is a family-owned business (father-daughter). Friendly daughter who took our orders. We were the first one in when they opened for the day. When we originally came here first on Sunday they were closed. The business is closed on Sundays. Their business hours in Yelp needs updating. Open Mon-Sat 11:00a to 7:00p. I ordered the California Roll Bento Box. What would normally come in a bento box was served in a styrofoam box. It's okay since they are now just take out. Everything was delicious... the beef, salad, tempura except for the California Roll, it was not fresh and the kind you would get premade from a grocery store. The restaurant is located in a small seaside town of Chemainus in the Cowichan Valley in the Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Review #3155

We had made…read morereservations a few weeks prior to our trip and I would highly recommend making a reservation if you plan on coming here. The restaurant was packed and the kitchen was hustling. There were so many beautiful and creative dishes passing by our table all night long; if I lived here, this would definitely become one of my regular places to go. The service was quick and friendly. The food was incredible; really fresh and presented beautifully. We had met up with a neighbour who had moved to the area and we ended up staying until the place closed. It was just a lovely evening overall. I would definitely recommend Nori for delicious Japanese cuisine but be sure to make a reservation!

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE If you've a hankering for Asian…read morecuisine in Nanaimo and there's only one place you could go to, Nori should be one of your top picks! Good food, good service, and in a place with good vibes. === 2. FOOD When dining at lunch, the lunch specials offer incredible value; each option includes 4-piece California roll, small green salad, 2-piece gyoza, 2-piece prawn tempura, a miso soup, and a side dish ("okazu") of the day. Some thoughts: - The portions are decent even if you're hungry! - The prawn tempura (at least today) feel more batter than prawn. - The okazu (at least today) was fried - a fancy spring roll - which is interesting as side dishes in Japan in this context are often fish-based?). - Overall, the food quality is good. Buta Shoga Lunch Special ($22) Shoyu, ginger-marinated pork on rice - a good heart-warming combo as any! Sashimi & Sushi Lunch Special ($23) 6 pieces of sashimi (salmon and tuna) and three pieces of sushi (also salmon and tuna) make this lunch special one of the healthier options on the menu. Chashu Miso Ramen ($18) My little guy loves noodles, even if it comes in piping-hot pork bone broth. Depending on your little one, kids 6 and under in age may need a grown-up to help finish this dish! === 3. SERVICE The place is POPULAR and so be prepared to wait. One the most recent visit during lunch, we were lucky to slide in fairly quickly and the servers were fairly prompt and professional. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's basic, yet has a modern open-view environment with a view of the bar/kitchen from across the restaurant. It's similar in vibe to its sister restaurant nearby (Horang) but the service is better and diners with small children will find more appealing seating options here. Wheelchairs and baby strollers would fit just fine and your chance at finding a place to park in the shopping complex lot outside is pretty decent!
