Sushi is great here, I normally would get just a California roll but now I get the beef teriyaki bowl plus spicy tuna roll

Everything was fresh to order and well-priced for lunch. Tempura had good batter and cane with rice and salad with a nice, sesame-based dressing and fresh salad greens. Simple and well done. Also had a Bulgogi bowl, avocado/cucumber roll with well seasoned rice (my indicator of all Japanese food). My son had Chicken Katsu and it came on a bed of sautéed veg + rice and salad. These guys put the "artificial" in AI! (get it?) Anyhoo ... this is basic the most generic "Japanese" food available in the area. It is to Japanese food, what Panda Express is to Chinese ... a slew of comforting names, huge portions, and bland flavors that will cater to anyone craving a taste of Japanese food, but with little authenticity. However, I have to give them at least three stars because the food was solid and not too expensive. The food was out extremely quickly and my dad and I both enjoyed the chicken teriyaki platter (with salad, soup, and rice) for ~$9 and a sushi platter that didn't skimp on the portions. Love their salmon sashimi salad! It comes with 12 huge pieces of salmon, salad, and rice, which is pretty worth the price for $10.95! Their bulgogi bowl, however, was not as impressive. Although it comes in a huge portion size, the sauce they use to marinate the meat tastes different from the one used in authentic KBBQ meat. Sushi is one of those things that just needs to be done right. The atmosphere, the decor, the service, the cleanness, and the food all make up for the right experience. Unfortunately, although the food was decently tasteful, the other aspects really bring it down a few levels. First off, I came with my group of friends to this location and we ordered four different rolls to share. The food was average, as expected from a inexpensively priced sushi restaurant in Goleta. However, the cashier did not honor my coupon for my Yelp check-in and claimed that this was not the same restaurant that offered the coupon. The coupon had "Sushi Ai" on it, how is this not the same eatery? Any establishment, not just a restaurant, must honor their terms of agreement and their coupons. Another thing my friends noticed was the lack of cleanness of the dishes and the tables. Overall, it was just a mediocre job, still with wet stains and unidentifiable black marks. Sushi Ai needs to step up their game, especially with many other Japanese eateries to choose from in Goleta and Santa Barbara. First time I've been here. Always nice to see a good amount of business, when trying something new. The service was friendly, and the place is clean and welcoming. I got the rainbow roll, my go to when trying a new sushi place. As you can see from the picture it was very plainly presented. (picture didn't post darn it) Maybe I'm used to a bit more finesse when it comes to how Sushi is laid out. The salad was a nice addition, great dressing. The flavor and freshness of the sushi was good though. So that was nice! I think for a quick on the go lunch, this is a good place. A lot of food for the money. Pleasant and friendly staff. An order at counter and seat yourself styled place. What struck me interesting is if you pay by card at counter, they want you to enter tip . Yes, before receiving the food and before seating. We were hungry so we ordered big. However it was a busy hour so they served our meal to another table and we had to prove our order was given to a table that already got theirs. Of course that table did not say anything.... but at least did not eat or touch it (yes, i was watching) The waitress eventually figures out that it truly was ours, , takes it from their table and puts in front of me. Sigh. Then I had to ask for our soup. Very forgetful. Other orders looked like they were mixed up too. Guess it was one of those days. We have visited this restaurant 4 times now. Most if time its a 5 star. Today was a 3 star. As always, stars can move up or down depending in experience. So, in terms of food and price (if everything served /delivered) its a 5. They need to update their menu on Uber eats and work on their customer service (big time !!) , I wrote in my Uber eats instructions "no onions I'm allergic" in my teriyaki bowl and of course it came with a bunch of onions. When I called the woman on the phone (Stephanie) was rude and told me that they tried to pick the onions out of the veggies it comes with but they couldn't pick them all out because they are premixed......... I couldn't believe her response. I still can't believe it it's like they want a law suit on their hands. So they served me the veggies knowing It has onions.... if I hadn't noticed that there were onions I would have eaten my food. I am very allergic my throat would have closed up and they would have been responsible. Next time call the person and tell them that it has onions already mixed in don't just try to pick it out . Now I'm stuck with food I can't eat. Also on their Uber menu it says their teriyaki bowl comes with a miso soup and when I called she said it didn't so I double checked and it does . Probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. So I came here and ordered the salmon salad. On the menu, it says "served with rice" for the salad. When I get the salad, there's no rice. So, I ask the waitress "doesn't it come with rice?" She looked at me really confused and said no so I was like oh maybe I misread something. I take another look at the menu and, sure enough, it says "served with rice." I show the menu to the waitress, who then goes to get rice, while the waitress next to her says, pretty condescendingly, "well people don't usually want rice with it." And I was like uhhhh? If it says "served with rice" on the menu, I'm gonna expect to get served rice whether i end up eating it or not. On top of that, the lettuce on the salad was so disgusting I ended up taking the salmon off and just eating it with the rice. But then I realized the rice was undercooked so I ate the salmon by itself. THEN, I'm on my phone eating and see that there's a WiFi called "SUSHIAI" so I figure the restaurant as WiFi. I get up and ask the waitress if I can have the WiFi password and she says, "I don't think we can give that out to customers." Like seriously?? I have never been to a business that clearly has a labeled WiFi but doesn't let customers use it. For how expensive it was, you'd expect it to be much much better than it is. But the horrible food and high prices aren't what's stopping me from coming back here, it's the incredibly rude customer service that made me so uncomfortable that I was eager to leave as soon as possible. read more

My roommate and I come here every weekend to relieve ourselves from dining common food. You get a good bang for your buck, as there are often combos and specials that provide a lot of food for a pretty good price. There's indoor and outdoor seating and when the weather is just right, the patio is the way to go. The restaurant is set up so that you order at the counter and are given a number. You seat yourself and the workers bring the food to your table. Utensils, hot sauce and napkins are all available in little "stations." The food itself is pretty good. It's not the best sushi you'll ever have in your life, but it's definitely good given how many sushi places are in the area. I've been here around 7 times now and each time I've had a good experience. The wait staff are super chill and the food comes out relatively quickly. Visited Sushi Ai for the fIrst time. I ordered the bento 2 item combo special. The miso soup was ok - meaning it was hot. The rice was ok. But this is where the meal takes a turn for the worse. The salad was mushy and the dressing watery - as if the greens were washed and then drowned with dressing without first spinning the greens. Slow and incompetent. Ordered my food over the phone. (6 hand rolls) Was told it would be a 30 minute wait. Came in 30 minutes and then had to wait in line for 10 minutes. The main advantage of this sushi place is the location : right next to the movie theater. Prices are fair, but the food is quite mediocre. I'd consider this sushi place more like a "fast food" sushi restaurant. You place your order at the counter, get a tag and wait for them to bring you the plate. HORRIBLE service. Came here at 8:30, ordered and gave a 15% tip in advance because that's how they close out the sale. Then they say my order has to be to go because we can't eat indoors after 8:30pm, even though they close at 9pm. So I asked if we can eat outside at the tables and they said yes. Then while I was still masked, I got my drink at the soda fountain and sat at a table to wait for my changes "to-go" order. I started drinking my drink without my mask on, since I cannot drink with it on. Other patrons who ordered before 8:30pm are eating and drinking their food and drinks without masks. I was singled out by the short-haired cashier/order taker for taking my mask off and drinking my drink while waiting for my "to-go" order. After I received my food, I told the rude short-haired cashier/order-taker that it doesn't hurt to be nice to your patrons. She singled me out while other patrons were eating and drinking without masks, she scolded me in front of my kids, and they made a scene in front of all the guests. NEVER again will I come to this establishment that DOES NOT CARE about their customers. Portion sizes are good, but they forgot to remove some of the shell on my shrimp tempura and I started choking.

the rolls are big... a big disappointment. just avoid the rolls.... my boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki which was edible, comes with salad and rice. serving size is pretty large. we both got the baked salmon roll, which took a very long time to arrive. when i saw the sushi, i immediately got a bad vibe. i'm used to having a crispy shell around the sushi when it's baked, but this sushi had no shell and seemed as if it was microwaved to be warm. the sour cream was not a good combo with the salmon, and tasted even weirder warm. my boyfriend ended up just eating the rice and salmon. i couldn't even finish half of it. the best part of the dish was the salad. would not recommend if you want good sushi. read more

Purchased these shrimp tempura's to go and when I received them they were super soggy from the oil. They didn't dry them before putting them inside the box so the oil stayed on the dolly. The sushi D Combo I got was warm by the time I picked it up. Did I mention it took them 40 minutes during the hours of 130pm-230pm I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed maybe lunch rush?
