I had a healthy, successful pregnancy from my very first IVF and 3 remaining genetically normal embryos remaining after I moved to the state. At my first implantation, the doctor asked about the gender (we had 2 males and 1 female remaining. We implanted the female). The doctor said "another girl? What are you going to tell your son one day?" Doctor, that's none of your business. That implantation ended in a miscarriage. For the next two [failed] implantations, my doctor added different medications saying "at this point, the studies are all voodoo, so why not try." She knows more than me so I trusted her, which I shouldn't have done. She tested my thyroid and gave me medication but never told me how important it is to take thyroid medication separate from other medicines. I realize she's not an endocrinologist, but if you prescribe it, you should give the warning. At one point I was taking over 11 pills and a shot. She also assumed that adding more estrogen was the answer and my levels were skyrocketing. Again, I'm not the doctor. As I said, both my implantations failed. I know that IVF is never a guarantee. And I don't completely fault the facility, however, in my journey to expand my family I feel like I wasted a year at Carolina Conceptions. New to the area, I thought it was my only option. It's not.

My first pregnancy was rough--I had extreme morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum), developed gestational high blood pressure that turned into pre-eclampsia, and ended up having to be induced early. So when I got pregnant again, I knew I wanted to do something different. I started seeing LeAnne around 8 weeks, and wow--she completely transformed my experience. This time around, I still had some morning sickness, but nothing like the first pregnancy. She gave me tools, daily practices, and nutritional support that actually helped me manage it. Then, when my blood pressure started creeping up again, I saw her weekly for BP support, and my midwives and doctors were shocked that I was able to avoid blood pressure medication. At 37 weeks, I did labor prep acupuncture with her, and it made a huge difference. Even though I ultimately chose to be induced (because of my history and borderline protein levels), I went in already 4 cm dilated, 80% effaced, and barely needed any Pitocin. I checked in for my induction at 7 PM, started Pitocin at 10 PM, and had my baby at 6:45 AM--such a smooth and positive birth compared to my first. I'll definitely be seeing LeAnne again when we start trying for another baby. Her support throughout pregnancy was amazing, and I know she'll be just as incredible for fertility support and ongoing wellness. If you're pregnant (or trying to be) and dealing with morning sickness, high blood pressure, or just want to feel more supported throughout pregnancy, go see LeAnne. Every time I brought up an issue I was having, the answer was always to add another supplement to my already huge arsenal. I actually think the amount of supplements I was taking was actually taxing my body and my digestive system further. I also didn't like that the first time I emailed her, I got a message back saying she might charge me to respond to that email and any future emails. I understand her time is limited, but possibly getting charged for emailing a question was a deterrent for me in asking questions and seems a bit unethical. My biggest complaint, however, was her demeanor. I found her attitude to be rude, condescending, and arrogant. Eye-rolling during an in person appointment once. The worst was the time I was having a phone consult with her and she went over this long list of treatments she wanted me to start, and at the end, I asked, just to make sure, if all of them were ok for me to take while breastfeeding. Apparently, she either forgot (even though we discussed it at my initial intake) or neglected to check her notes before writing her recommendations. She reacted by getting flustered first, then actually said to me, "Well I guess you could have stopped breastfeeding by now" as if that was an excuse! And it's not like she even asked if I was still nursing! If I hadn't asked, I might have paid for and started taking things unsafe for my baby. I was horrified. If I hadn't been so desperate for help, I would have definitely stopped seeing her right after that. Another time, she refused to give me lab results until I scheduled an appointment with her. She also asked me once to get lab tests that I had already paid for and done, and we had even emailed about it. Again, just not checking her notes in advance. I dreaded my appointments with her, she gave me anxiety to be around because of her aggressive nature, and I got the feeling she was mostly concerned with making money and not taking care of her patients. I never got the impression she really cared. No bedside manner whatsoever. She has since moved out of Raleigh to join another practice and the only communication about the move was via several long, convoluted, poorly written emails. I was surprised at the level and style of communication from someone who has so many advanced degrees. She never mentioned the move to me in person. I just thought it was odd. It came across like she couldn't wait to get out of NC. I'm so glad I made the decision to stop seeing her and wasting my time and money. I have had much better, long-lasting, less expensive success with acupuncture and Chinese herbs.
