Baby shower by the lake
Susan W.

Went to a baby shower here yesterday and was totally impressed with this park! It has beautiful spacious gazebos for events, a fabulous playground for the kiddies, pickleball courts, and more, all around a lovely lake. The lawns are manicured, and studded with interesting sculptures. The walking paths are wide and level, the bathrooms are clean, and it is an altogether lovely place for a family outing, or just for a peaceful stroll by yourself. As they say, "Try it, you'll like it!"

Our family absolutely love Surprises Community Park. We love how active the city is and appreciate the time and care they take to make this park so special. During the winter season the park is such a fun experience for photo ops, beautiful installations to see, and fun interactive things to explore. We love taking a walk here, and are also able to enjoy the library and art center nearby. Our kids love the play area and my husband loves the pickleball courts. We love this outdoor space and all it has to offer. Also if you play Pokémon Go... This is a hot spot to play! So many players and it makes for great opportunities on community days! Take advantage of raids during this time!

Great community lots to do for everyone I enjoy the fishing and the dog parks. The community is clean and kind. Lots of parking for everyone and very well lit in the evening and very well taken care of.

Concessions stands.. no cash allowed

Came to watch my grandson play baseball . The bathrooms are super clean, and the bleachers are safe for little ones. The concessions stand only allows purchasing with cards. I hate how you can't use money

Surprise Community Park surprisingly is very large. There is a huge pond with ducks, geese, fishes, turtles. There's picnic areas with bbq grills and clean restrooms. The toilet paper rolls are locked in so one cannot steal the rolls. There's swings, a dog park for large dogs and a separate park for small dogs. You can picnic, skate, and feed the fishes and ducks.

Definitely a lot of improvement over the last six months. Many places on the way from Michigan to Arizona. Nothing is nice is this. As for the goose poop put on your boots.

They have really done a lot to improve the commu itt park, landscaping, art, adding a second restroom across the park from the other, right now they are redoing the playground. It looks like it is going to be super fun. Our girls grew up here since birth. It has been our go-to for family walks and play. Not as many geese as they used to have. That is intentional, I believe. Our homeschool group has been meeting here since 1999. For 2 hours one day a week when school is in season. All the sudden the park Rangers feel like we are displacing the community. I learned about the group from taking one of our older daughters there years ago and meeting these wonderful families with wonderful kids. My neighbors come when our group meets so their young children not quite school age, can play with other children. We are working with the city now as they want to start charging us a lot of money to meet. We aren't there long, and we meet when all the other kids are in school. The city is hurting for money right now. Maybe from all the renovations. We have so much condensed housing and new homes I would hope taxes would help cover all that. Hoping for a future here for our group. Enjoying all the upgrades and changes in the meantime. Fingers crossed!

We love this park and the library. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas and had lovely music.

It was golden hour and the lake was just gorgeous!

This is a beautiful spot for the community! There are many activities for families. Whether fishing, playing pickle ball or basketball, or just taking a walk or picnicking, you won't be disappointed!

Ask the Community - Surprise Community Park

When do they have a food court or swap meet?

I have not heard of the City of Surprise having a swap meet or food court. They do have a lot of events for the community, which may have food trucks or vendors selling their merch. Here is a link to the City of Surprise upcoming events calendar.…

Radio control boats? Is that considered a water craft?

Nothing but a fishing pole is allowed in the water at the park. City park questions or concerns? Ask Yelp or you can call directly at 623-222-2000 during business hours. They answer right away. =)

Are there walking paths? Is there a walking path around the lake? Distance around lake?

There is a walking path around the lake. .5 miles and plenty of side walks you can walk on that lead all the way to the police station if you want and that entire block around the Park, city hall and the police station.

Do you need a fishing license?

Yes - unless you are under 10

Is there a place for my dog to swim at the Park?

Unfortunately no due to the pond is also used for fishing. No animals or watercraft in the water.

Can i bring a canopy to surprise lake?

There's covered areas... And the area around the lake is slightly sloped, but I didn't see any signs saying you couldn't, but I also didn't see any canopies.. I did have a big umbrella though... I think it would be ok.

Arrowhead Lakes is where I grew up. It's where I call home (and have since age 9), and I couldn't…read morebe happier that my parents still live here. The neighborhood has definitely quieted down since my childhood days--a time when kids roamed the streets and claimed the ends of culdisacs in numbers on their bikes or rollerblades, both after school and on the weekends. Now however, you won't see much of that. Today the neighborhood is predominantly made up of an older crowd. In fact I don't think I've seen anyone younger than the high school age in the area for some time now, and my parents recently mentioned that they couldn't remember the last time they had a trick-or-treater. So if you're looking to start and/or raise a young family, this probably isn't the ideal neighborhood for you. If you're looking for a quieter more grown scene however, then look no further! As far as the West side of the greater metro Phoenix area goes, the Arrowhead Lakes Estates are by far the best place to call home and everyone knows it. The development offers both lake view properties as well as golf course properties with gorgeous views of the nearby mountains and of course, the lake itself. My experience living here has been on the water, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Who wants to pick up golf balls from your netted yard everyday anyway? The only a downfall to a golf course property. Almost every lake front property has a boat dock to fish off of and accompanying boats to boast which makes sunsets and sunrises all the more beautiful. At Christmas time there is even a light parade open to all who have a boat to participate in. Such a great way to kick off the holiday season! The lake winds around the development--essentially connecting all properties, and even has beautiful waterfalls aligning its path at various stops for your viewing pleasure. All in all, this is a gorgeous place to live, or in my case, get to come home to when I need a break from life.

They were unprepared for the holiday weekend…read more The service was good when it came to accomodating a big group. Half of our group was MIA, so we cancelled one of two pontoons. They didn't charge us, but upgraded us to the biggest 15 passenger for a couple of hundred dollars more. When we boarded, we had to clean the tables up ourselves. The sink was too filthy, thank goodness it had a cover. Suffice to say, they never got around to cleaning it. In fact, they had to refuel it while we were on board...hate that smell makes me barf. We set off to find a nice cove for swimming. We looked around and could not find find any anchors. The motorized anchor did not work nor had anything attached to it. For a pontoon this large, make sure you have two to stabilize it against the wakes from the huge ski boats whizzing by. After a couple of hours, we decided to have some pics by the cliffs off the Agua Fria Canal. That's when the batteries completely died on us. We waited for over two hours for any help. They told us they could't find us. Which was hard to imagine, because my hubby knows this lake like the back and front of his hands when he gave them the exact location. The short of it, they finally came and towed us with skinny nylon ropes. We were afraid of a rope backlash, so we had the kiddos way in the back. It's disconcerting that they didn't seem to have an emergency protocol in place. If they did, it was not in any way reassuring from our experience. Would we use them again? Yes. But next time we will make sure there are two anchors on board, the radio works, filled up tank, and both batteries, including the internal ones are charged. Oh, bring lots of food and water...just in case.

My husband rented a Pontoon for 1/2 day, received thorough instructions from a gentleman who was very knowledgeable about the watercraft. The men walked around the Pontoon making notations about any damages or obvious wear and tear. My husband pointed to a scratch on the side and questioned the gentleman who responded with, "I already got it marked here, I'm right ahead of you on that!" He instructed my husband on how to return to the area to "gas up" and that he would meet us there to help disembark from the watercraft. It was a nice afternoon UNTIL we returned to the dock area to gas up about 10 minutes before time and a young lady (teenager) pulled us in with a look of disgust on her face and made a comment about the pontoon (the scratch my husband showed to the gentleman earlier WHO WAS CONVENIENTLY GONE WHEN WE NEEDED HIS TESTIMONY THAT DAMAGE WAS ALREADY ON THE PONTOON BEFORE WE RENTED IT). My husband went to the office to return keys or whatever needs to be done there and was taking a very long time. He finally asked me to come there with him. When I arrived, he informed me that we were being charged with damaging the pontoon. My mouth dropped and I informed the young lady that we most certainly did not damage the pontoon. This arguing went on for some time, I worked in hospitality for almost 10 years, you NEVER put a customer through this! It was humiliating and it was EXTREMELY HURTFUL TO BE ACCUSED OF SOMETHING WE DID NOT DO! We returned home very hurt, our poor kids witnessed this whole thing, not to mention my sister who was our house guest! My husband contacted the Better Business Bureau, once the Lake Pleasant staff were called out on their comment of "THAT VESSEL SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RENTED AS IT WAS NOT SAFE", they changed their tune, removed the $500+ charge for damages, took 50% off of our visit, PLUS offered us future discounts. However, I WILL NEVER RETURN to the lake they can keep their 50% discount because I will never trust again that we would not be accused of causing damage to a watercraft.
