Dr Kramer repaired (2) Abominal Hernia's using Robtic Equipment, and I was scoped for a Colonoscopy, all 'Out Patient', in at 8am, done by Noon. It worked out great, very little pain, and necessary as a Senior Citizen. My quality of life has definitely improved, and the entire procedure was very interesting, no incision , just (3) small holes and glue instead of stitches. read more

I am a 59 year old male. I put off having my 1st colonoscopy for years. The main reason was all I had heard about the prep. The awful taste. Forcing yourself to drink all the horrible tasting liquid. Spending the night in the bathroom. I am very pleased to say Dr. Andy Kramer of Genevea Il. was my Physician. Dr. Kramer and his Staff were polite, professional and helpful throughout the process. His bowel prep included over the counter products I bought at Walgreens and Gatorade making it a breeze. The procedure was a walk in the park. He removed two polops. After Dr. Kramer analyized these, he called me personally to let me know now I'm set for ther next 10 years. The pre op nurse I had was amazing. As an RN, I typically have many questions and concerns when it comes to medical care. Dr. Kramer has performed three abdominal surgical procedures plus a colonoscopy on me in the last year due to diverticulitis that had resulted in a serious obstruction. I could not be more happy with the results and the care that he gave me. I was hospitalized for over 30 days, and during that time, he never failed to address my concerns in a way that allayed my fears. He always knew just what to say to encourage me, and I held tightly on to his words during a long recovery. The office staff at Surgery Group has been very kind, helpful and accommodating through all of my appointments. Avoid this place like the plague. I was happy during my first appointment, when I scheduled my surgery, after asking the front desk receptionist if I would need to pay another co pay. She said I would not have to, so I made the appt. Have my surgery, Dr was late due to emergency at the hospital. Fine. 2 weeks later I get a bill for 5.00. Fine. I pay it. Think this is over? no. I get ANOTHER bill for a $25.00 late charge for my $5.00 bill, AND it includes ANOTHER $40.00 co pay. I call to let them know my insurance and their front desk person said I did not have to pay another co pay, (I would have had my surgery on the same day had I known to avoid it) I call, the billing person "Jody" told me I waited too long to have the surgery, so I got billed another co pay. I call to speak with the administrator of the office. I get the outside appointment person, who became VERY rude when she told me that every visit includes a co pay. I said, no, that's not what your front desk AND your billing person told me. A week later the Administrator calls me back. The excuses went from "It's your insurance" to "Oh yea, you're right, but too bad!" I also found out they BILLED MY INSURANCE FOR SURGERY I DID NOT HAVE. Well, sorry, too bad, i'm not paying your $40.00. Go hire some competent people for your office, then I might reconsider. read more

Dr. Kramer was my surgeon on an ugly hernia a couple years ago, I was hospitalized very recently for what they thought at first was another hernia . He was consulted since he was my surgeon. I have nothing but positive things to say about him. I was lucky to have Dr. Slogoff come in and follow up with me and brainstorm on what my medical diagnosis is. Her bedside manner is excellent. Has a great bedside manner, explained the procedure and answered all our questions. He took the time to make sure we understood the procecess with the hospital and pre op activities. There was no rushing you out of the door. the staff was friendly and accomodating and they were excellent with the insurance since we were transitioning between personal insurance and medicare. If your looking for a doctors office with caring, knowledge staff that makes you feel like an actual person and not just a number that will provide money - don't go to Surgery Group, SC! The office staff lacks knowledge of insurance and payments. They provide a no information to patients leaving the patient without needed procedures. They rush you thru their exams and make you wait longer than expected. I was in a cramped exam room for less than 5 minutes and received a bill for over $400! They demand money right away with no options available. Not recommended for the average patient. And be forewarned that they require you the patient to fully understand your insurance coverage as they make no attempt to offer any assistance. Nice attempt to explain from the Surgery Group. They basically take no blame whatsoever and just make excuses! Like I said before - I would NEVER use these people - seriously. There are other better qualified and with far better customer service than what the Surgery Group offers. If you want to pay money for no service, be told misinformation, basically lied to - use these people. Otherwise go someplace else with better standards. read more

Came for my follow up appointment and sat in the room for an hour. Went out to tell the assistant and she would just say "he'll be out" but apparently everybody there is afraid to even tell him something. This place is so unprofessional and never on time it's ridiculous! Avoid coming here!! read more

It is refreshing to be able to write a review about excellent customer service and true compassion. The business office and the physicians were able to assist in clearing up a dispute from a few years ago. While we have not received direct care from the current doctors, I can say that they are caring people. The Office Manager Nicola is courteous, prompt and very understanding. I had an issue come up more than 6 months post-op. They were so accommodating and understanding! Multiple people even stayed after they closed so I could be seen. I made an appointment at 4:00 pm about 2 weeks in advance. I got a call 90 min. before my appointment that the office was closing early. I either needed to come in immediately or reschedule for another day at an earlier time. They would not be there if I came in at 4:00.... Why make an appointment if they won't honor it???? Maybe I should be getting paid because the doctor's office canceled without 24 hours notice. This is the second time I have had trouble with late appointments at their office in Elgin. I won't be going back to this office again or recommending them to any of my friends. read more

Our son had emergency surgery and the procedure was done well. Dr. Shoener was great, made us feel important and answered all our questions. Unfortunately their billing department was unfriendly and certainly not sympathetic to our situation. We paid our bill in full over time yet no one expects emergency surgery to happen and the financial burden can be great. This type of customer service is troubling and will prevent us from ever using Surgery Group SC again. read more
