I originally called Surface Experts (Paul and Erica) because of their superior rating on Angie's List to do my older tile and grout. Basically the whole house except three bedrooms. The price was so reasonable I added the three carpeted bedrooms. So I ended up doing the whole house of tile and carpets. Paul and his assistant, Erica arrived on time and were ready to work. Paul asked about the age of the tile and carpet in order to treat them accordingly. They put up corner guards because their equipment is in the van and only hoses (pressure and vacuum) come into the house. They did a very thorough cleaning of both the carpets and tile. Working about an hour on each. Both worked none stop the whole time. They left the whole house spotless and fresh. I highly recommend this dynamic duo. I've used Paul, the owner of surface experts, several times before to clean my tile and area rugs which he cleaned so expertly, restoring them to new condition, that he was the first person I thought to call to help me out of a terrible and difficult situation. A disabled person urinated in my car on an upholstered seat and it was saturated and wreaked. I called Paul from Surface Experts and asked if he could clean the seat and remove the urine and he said he'd come out right away so it doesn't set more. He came within a half hour on a weekend, and since he was here I had him clean all the interior upholstery seats. He is such a conscientious person that he cleaned the entire car interior, every surface, including doors, trim and mats and restored it back to how it looked and smelled when I bought it! He's a miracle worker!! There was not even the faintest trace of urine when he finished!! Amazing. And he stands behind every job and told me he'd come back out and re-treat if any residual smell was detected later. It didn't, but it gave me peace of mind to know that he'd come back out for free if it did. Some companies might say they are experts but Paul with Surface Experts truly is the best in the business. And he's an all-around great human being who genuinely cares about people and doesn't RIP you off or overcharge for unnecessary work. I moved on 2/17/21 and the Movers I hired punched a hole in the sheetrock in the Ceiling?!! They pointed this out to me, thankfully. The outfit that they contracted to do the repair was Surface Experts Inc. They scheduled a ?Technician? to come out on the 25th of Feb. @ noon. I requested a call 30 minutes prior to Noon so I could get there to let them in. A little after noon I called to inquire about getting the job rolling only to be told that ?Technician? would have to reschedule because he couldn't get out of his driveway because of the 1-1/2" of snow that we received on the 25th. He was rescheduled for noon on the 26th. As I type it's 1:30 on the 26th and the tech just called to say he'll be there in 10 minutes! All of my requests per scheduling were very clear. Muriatic acid was used to remove the carpet glue from the terrazzo floors, which left very rough patches and ruined certain parts of the terrazzo floors. Paul did say this would be used, but never mentioned it would ruin the floors. He had to ask a friend for advice on removing the glue. If Paul is a "Surface Expert", why did he have to ask a friend for advice? Paul knew the baseboards had just been painted and when asked if I should be concerned, Paul said "no". As a result, the baseboards were damaged from the machine Paul used to clean the floors. In a text, he mentioned the following: "A couple of years ago, I dinged some baseboards". If this has happened before, why would you do it again? Paul was supposed to seal all the holes left by the removal of the carpet tacks. Each time I checked (3x's) more holes were discovered. Pauls integrity failed when he refused to communicate with me until I sent him a final text message requesting a refund for the total amount. I am not an expert in floors and I counted on Paul to do a good job. In speaking with other flooring experts, they suggested using adhesive remover to remove the glue, not muriatic acid, which would eat through the terrazzo finish and ruin the floors. Paul was paid $2050.00 to clean/polish terrazzo floors. Paul was not paid to damage terrazzo floors and baseboards. It will cost me twice that amount to repair the damages. His service cannot be recommended. Update 10/02/2018: It's been a year since this review and Paul has not contacted me. To assist with this issue, I contacted Angies List, Better Business Bureau, Federal Trade Commission and the City of Saint Petersburg. Angies List: He agreed to refund the damage to the baseboards in monthly payments, as long as the "negative review" will be removed from Angies List. The "negative review" will not be removed until the damage is paid in full. Paul never responded. Better Business Bureau: Initiated a dispute and Paul never responded. Federal Trade Commission: Initiated dispute and Pauls response "He has no time for nonsense" City of Saint Petersburg: Initiated dispute and Pauls response "He has no time for nonsense" If Paul considers damaged baseboards and damaged Terrazzo floors "nonsense", then he used "no sense" in his work ethics. Before initiating any kind of service with this Merchant, I strongly recommend you do your homework and read ALL reviews. Pauls prior record and negative reviews will speak for itself. read more

I'm gonna give Paul 2 stars instead of 1 because what he did do.... Came out great. He was easy to get ahold of, also, good about getting back to me. I've never used yelp till now... Thought I'd share about this experience. Paul just may fall into the category of what you call, "shyster"..... I'm totally aware that I could go to local hardware store and rent a tile and grout steam cleaner for about $50 per few hours. Thing is I'm a busy guy... Had a lot going on at the time like always and my SUV was full of stuff, I was in the middle of moving so I figured, hell, I'll call somebody, make my life a little easier and let someone make a couple bucks. I don't knock the hustle... Love to see people doing their thing. Thing about Paul is.... When we spoke on phone I let him know I was aware of going rate but when he came and gave estimate that rate went up. I reminded him about our conversation then the rate went back down a little. I still felt it was a little high being how he wasn't going to have to move anything really but I let it go. The day of the job he was here earlier than scheduled. I like that usually but he came inside when he saw me throwing a couple floor mats out front...before I was ready and then attempted to help move my Ottoman for me which happen to have 2 good sized mugs of coffee on it. How he didn't notice the coffee on the Ottoman, I don't know but it inevitably spilled. He said leave it cause he'll clean it up but had a weird little attitude about him. I pick up on these things. The guy was in his feelings about the coffee he just spilled all over my stuff, then disappeared outside. I left the house (small condo actually) to take my daughter to school with a bad taste in my mouth. I'll admit Sometimes I'm not a morning person. My daughter hadn't cleared her floor all the way the night before so I wasn't the happiest and I don't like grown men that spill my coffee and then get a little bitchy attitude with no apology. The job was so small...it took him less than an hour, literally. I was just down the street when he called so arrived in minutes. Floor looked great from what I could see. I was very pleased.... While in middle of my inspection he let me know he had a busy schedule that day and needed to get going. He Was already packed up and trying to leave so I went ahead to square up with him. All of the sudden the rate went back up. I said something about it as he's starting his truck and trying to leave. Shows me some piece of paper that had numbers on it I've never seen that's supposed to mean something to me and was different from the numbers we spoke about. I already know what time it is. I let it go and gave him the money so he'd just leave. I had to because little did this prissy attitude having guy know, I felt like giving him a slap for trying me but I can't go that route these days and.. naturally he doesn't even have change.. so I really need this man to leave before something bad happens. Go back inside to finish looking things over.... Guess what's still on the other side of my ottoman, couch and floor going all underneath and behind my couch...... coffee. Thanks Paul. Paul is not what he seems. And if he's reading this... He knows where to find me. You guys... Go to home Depot and spend a fraction of the price that Paul charges. If you can't do that...Don't let anyone charge you more than 35¢ a square ft unless they're moving some serious furniture around to do your floor. I'm telling you... Stick to what I just told you. 35¢ per square ft at the most.. Even if your floor is real dirty. We scheduled some time for him to come though I had very low expectations ... the carpet was in poor condition and hadn't been professionally cleaned in years. Don't waste your time! I bought a tile and grout cleaning package on livingsocial and I can't use it because they do not answer the phone or return messages. Why do you go out of your way to speak on your voicemail about returning calls the same day or giving a 10% discount if you don't, if you have no intention on living up to your standards? Your voicemail also mentioned doing things for others, which is frustrating when you clearly have no consideration, especially for prepaid customers. I've been calling for 6 days, including leaving 4 voicemails with ZERO response. Wouldn't trust them even if I did get a call back at this point, it's the principle. We really needed our tile and grout cleaned. Surface Experts came out and did a fantastic job. There is no way we could have gotten the tile and the grout as clean as he did. Have you ever tried to clean your own tile and grout? It's backbreaking and takes a long time. The main traffic areas were really bad and it took him a lot longer than he expected, but he honored his price. The communication from him was also very good. read more

I also have had horrible experience with this company and person himself. I purchased a deal from Living Social for 149.00. this was to clean 800 square feet of tile. Which keep in mind I had only slightly over 500 sq feet but was told from Paul, I would have to purchase the larger deal since I was over the 500 sq feet . While he was cleaning my for he told me the only was to truly keep my tile clean was to seal them after they were cleaned and this would only be 50 cents a square foot. So I agreed to go to the extra expense and have him seal it when he was finished. (My mistake) . During the entire time he was here to continued to tell me that not to look at the results right away, it will take a couple of days to lighten up. It has never lighten up, well parts are but others are not. Not only did he not get my floors cleaned then he sealed the dirt in. Going back to the cost of the sealing, when he is finished he tells me I owe him 200.00 dollars I said I barely have over 500 sq feet. Well 200.00 is the least I charge for this service. This was never explained in the begin. When I contacted Paul regarding the poor job he had done he became very belligerent and nasty. Every time I would go to speak he would yell and say you will have your turn when I am finished. I contacted Living Social about this they were very understanding, refunded the 149.00 I spent with them, but I am still out the 200.00. It is a lesson learned and when ever I get a chance mark my words this man and company reviews from me will be well known through Pinellas county. read more

Wow! I wish I could give a glowing review like everyone else, but unfortunately that was not my experience. I purchased a Living Social deal for tile cleaning and made an appointment for the end of August. Upon beginning the job, Paul said that the tile was not coming clean due to their being a waxy residue on it's surface. Plus, the grout had a colored sealer on it, which had started coming off as he began cleaning. He said, in order to get the tile clean, it would need to be stripped and the grout sealer reapplied. This would cost $800 on top of the $150 I paid for the Living Social deal. This was a lot more than we wanted to spend, but Paul said the tile would look like brand new so we agreed. Paul said the job would take 2 full days. Day one the tile was stripped, and did look much cleaner at the end of the day. Before leaving, he said not to look at it too carefully until it was finished the next day, because it would look like new. He arrived a little after 8:00 the next morning. Around 9:30, I had to leave the house for an hour, but my husband was at home. I was very surprised when I returned home and he was long gone, given he said this would take two full days. My husband had paid Paul and said he would be emailing me to see what I thought of the job. Upon looking around, I noticed that the colored grout sealer was smeared across the surface of the tile in many areas (and very visible ones), making it look dirty and discolored. There were also stripes of it on the tile parallel to the grout, as if it was applied but not wiped off the tile. It was also smudged on the side of my bath tub and on my baseboards. I understand my tile is difficult to clean and the light color shows everything - but this is just pure sloppiness. There is also a large black mark on my relatively new stainless steel oven from where a rag had been duct taped to it for protection. I waited a week for Paul's email, but it never came. I then emailed him some photos of where I was seeing the problems. No reply. I emailed him again about a week later. He replied on 9/7 and said he would have to come back out and re-clean those areas. He said he was booked for the entire month of October, so he would have to look at his schedule and get back to me. He did not get back to me, so I emailed again. And again. Nothing. Now it was the end of September. So I called and left a message. No call back. Left another message a week later. No reply. Another message the next week, once again no reply. I had my husband leave a message a few weeks later. Still nothing. At this point, I am so frustrated, I say on his voice mail that if he is not going to come back out, I would like a partial refund so that I can hire someone else to re-clean it. Again nothing. It has been 3 1/2 months since the first appointment, and I am confused by the lack of communication and customer service here. I continue to see Living Social deals offered and good reviews posted, yet I am unsatisfied with the job I paid almost $1000 for months ago. And I see this comment from Paul in response to a customer review on his website: "To me, great service also comes AFTER the job is complete. That is why we offer a 24 hours callback to make sure that you are 100% satisfied with your work. You did have a couple of tough areas that appeared once the grout had dried and we came back out to fix the issues." So what happened here? I officially give up. I hired a professional because I was tired of trying to scrub the floors myself, yet now I am scrubbing grout sealer off the tiles one-by-one. And I am out a lot of money on top of it. read more
