Absolutely the grossest apartment complex I've ever seen/lived in unfortunately. There is bugs and cockroaches everywhere to the point they were in the fridge and freezer, and the solution was so to spray poison in the fridges and all of the cabinets. The manager of this place even said it's normal that the cockroaches live in the walls. The street is also a quarter mile from a garbage truck depot and constantly smells like trash, plus the community is full of animal feces everywhere that doesn't get picked up. Way over priced for how gross and run down, looks like it was painted over and over a million times, units are very poorly managed. Don't waste your money here, management doesn't help in anyways. read more

There is an older male resident on the property who continues to harass multiple tenants as well as staff. His behavior is consistently aggressive, confrontational, and directed especially toward women. He frequently yells, attempts to start arguments, and creates an unsafe environment in and around the dog park. On several occasions, he has also struck one of his dogs when they do not respond to him. His conduct is escalating, and it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously harmed. Residents should not have to live in fear or adjust their daily routines because this individual has not been removed from the community. This situation represents a clear safety risk and a growing liability. Please do not respond with a generic request to "call to discuss." We need meaningful action and a clear plan to protect the residents and staff of Surf House read more

If you're thinking about moving here, be prepared to sacrifice your car's paint job. The trees overhanging many of the assigned parking spots are a magnet for birds, and my car is constantly bombarded with droppings. I'm talking daily splatters -- windshield, roof, doors, hood -- nothing is safe. It's disgusting and damaging. Some trees even drop heavy red sap all over cars in certain areas of the complex. The complex has recently been re-landscaped & a lot of trees were removed inside the complex. They should have also removed the ones overhanging the parking. If you're one of the unlucky ones you'll be stuck paying out of pocket for frequent car washes and worrying about long-term damage to your vehicle. I recommend asking what assigned spot is attached to whatever unit you're viewing prior to signing your lease if you don't want to get crapped on...literally and figuratively... read more

I can't say enough good things about Mary, our current (temporary) manager. The difference she's made in such a short time is incredible. With the previous manager, anytime I brought up an issue, I was met with excuses or the classic "I have to ask corporate," which always felt like a brush-off. And nothing ever really got resolved. Mary, on the other hand, actually handles things. She listens, takes action, and doesn't shy away from addressing residents who aren't following community policies. On top of that, she's genuinely kind, approachable, and easy to talk to. You can tell she cares about making this a better place to live, not just going through the motions. Even though she's only here temporarily while the regular manager is out on leave, I truly wish she could stay permanently. Having a manager like Mary makes all the difference--it finally feels like someone is looking out for the residents and the community. read more

The communication from management here is getting really frustrating. I think some members of management forget that people actually live here and have to deal with everything going on. There is no parking, constant construction, and they enter your units an excessive amount of time. Some of the reasons are justified but communication is sloppy with incorrect or missing information. I've tried to stay clear of bringing any issues to the office because some of the managers aren't pleasant to deal with and are dismissive. I've tried reaching out to their corporate office but haven't heard back either so I'm writing a Yelp review hoping someone gets back to me. Some of the staff is fantastic though Oliver, Freddy, Nora, Andres, & Katie are awesome and do the bulk of the work around here and are the reason for the extra star. read more

I have lived at Surf House (Previously Citron House) now for over 2 years. Overall, I've loved living here, but wait there is more.. Since the new management has taken over and become "Surf House", they have made it so much better here. For starters, the staff and management are amazing. Very on top of it. They keep this place spotless. Within months, they began massive upgrades from new windows/door/paint/upgraded pool area etc. Completely transformed this place and it looks amazing. I couldn't be happier! Friends and family that visit always say it's feels like a resort vibe. It's seriously been great living here and seeing how far it's come since I moved in. Applied for a 1 bedroom which seemed like a mission to begin with, they kept offering the unit I did t want. The one I wanted, I applied online. Paid the application fees showed all documents required. Yet. It took them weeks to get back to me I didn't qualify. Just because I got a new job and don't have 3 months worth of paystubs yet. While I had my previous paystubs from my previous job. My bank account has enough to qualify, and it wasn't mentioned during the application fee that it has to be the most current job? Very confusing and wasted my credit score and application fees just to get declined after weeks of applying. read more

Since Surf House took over there have been many improvements with the staff, maintenance, building repairs, and professionalism. I believe Surf House deserves (5) Five Gold Stars. The front office manger Joell, Helen and Andres are amazing and friendly. They take the time to acknowledge your animals as well. My dog drags me to the office for snacks for an excuse to see them. Oliver and Ignacio in maintenance have outstanding work ethic as everything is done correctly the first time and cleaned properly after. They smile every time I see them. Recently we had all new windows and deck doors replaced by R3 Construction Services and the work was completed beautifully and they cleaned up like it was their own house. The dog park is also clean. Now a new addition of a dog washing station. Plus free doggy bags for convenience. I have high expectations but this type of care, professionalism and commitment to the highest level of customer satisfaction has to be acknowledged. I just recently moved here and find this property to be a an absolute gem!! A big thank you to Katie for her kindness, professionalism, and patience during the move in process. The entire leasing office staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The property is beautifully maintained. There is construction going on as the property converts the landscape to be water wise. Sad to see the grass go, however that's part of California living with water needing to be conserved. And the new landscape is actually very pretty. The maintenance team are the best!!! I had a small repair that needed to be done prior to move in and the communication to set up the repair was excellent. Parking can be a challenge. However, with Southern California being so car prevalent and Orange County such a dense area a solution is hard to come by. I've been living at surf house for about a year and a half now and I just want to say it's hands down the best place I've lived at so far. The complex is incredible but even more so the staff. Ive been in talks with the front office and they are so accommodating with anything that I've needed over the course of the year and a half. Everything is always clean, there is constantly improvements in the buildings to make the apartments and the buildings look cleaner and nicer. I'd also have pretty great experience whenever I need help for maintenance... as soon as Iopen a maintenance ticket, I get help right away. I love the service and the help i had received from the leasing office. They're always willing to help. Fortunately, i was able to renewed my contract for a 2B 2Bd before the holidays with the help of the Surf house team (Joell, Helen and Oliver). I love living at Surf House apartments! I have been a resident here for the past 3 years and am so happy with all of the updates the new management is working on. They have updated the pool, the parking lot, the paint on the whole complex, as well as fixing the landscaping. Surf house also has a beautiful dog park and recently added a dog washing station near it. The fitness facilities are top tier with a peloton and yoga patio. Been here four years... three different names... all the same problems.... Management sucks. Parking is horrible and their "parking passes" don't get enforced. We still use the parking passes from the previous branding of Citron House and it's been MONTHS. Maintenance and cleaning employees park in the same area as residences creating even more limited space. Reporting homeless or drug addicts sitting in the parking lot gets greeted with "I can not deal with this right now, call the police if you don't feel safe." The lot is "gated" but is always broken and does not get fixed for months so anyone at anytime can come in and out. Overall the management has a careless attitude about any issues that may inconvenience them. Property is not kept up and litter is always scattered with animal feces from all the dogs and wild cats in the complex. If you can afford better do it. read more

We been here for 1yr. Its a Beautiful place to live but Management and neighbors are the worst. We have been dealing with our neighbors upstairs for the amount of noise they make at night, , have talk to the property manager and their resolution is for us to move to a different unit. also the maintenance is the worst. We have been dealing with hot water issues for almost two months and have done nothing to fix it. I don't recommend this place. The building is very old. Pro: I've been living here about 4 years, living here is great, the complex being close to the beaches, parks, freeways. I have good neighbors, there's plenty of parking, it's gated, nice pool and gym, it's dog friendly. Con: always dealing with the management is a pain. The previous management was unresponsive whenever I called and they would constantly post fliers on the door announcing they would be entering the following few days to do "inspections". Constant repavement to the parking lot too where we can't park our cars inside. It's been a month so far with new management AMC (Surf House) and I've left them numerous emails about questions with no response and I have also spoken to the new lady at the front desk in person a few times and she just says "oh i'll tell the manager", and I've gotten no resolution so far. read more

I am going to piggy back off of Ashley W. Review. I am the neighbor who lived upstairs and expressed concerns over the years, who had to recently move out. These concerns have been expressed over the years and most recently expressed again with new management in December and February. Through the years I was told it wasn't mold by maintenance looking at it with blank stares and just pairing it over. The last time I had maintenance come out they asked me "do you shower with your door open and windows because you need to". Then they just cleaned it up. I have the pictures. Prior to moving out I expressed all my concerns once again to Joell. I expressed that I understood the lease break but the apartment really needed to be looked at due to it being inhabitable at this point. I asked if they would reassess the lease break due to the issues I was having. Mold, termites on roof, tub leak and reseal (another story for another day), and the current issue of roaches coming in the electrical sockets. We could not use the electrical. Was told there nothing they could do and they would need the $4.2k prior to move out or I had to keep paying rent if they could not rent it out. The apartment would never be able to be rented out immediately due to the issues we had been having. They wanted that money and that money would assist in gutting that place to make all those repairs. Fast forward after paying the lease break as they would not hear me out or truly take a look at the issues and me moving out.... The place was gutted and had biohazard signs on the place. My old apartment was blocked off and a complete hazard to anyone. There was a van parked by the walk way for Mold, Lead and Abestoes removal. Even though I had moved out I am so glad I have neighbors you had my back who also have been having the same issues and have all the pictures of what has been happening the minute they got my money and I had to leave. Lastly, while I got my full security deposit back (they really didn't have a choice on this one knowing the issues) they did hold overpayment of rent for 2 days for a while. In the end they still owe me a day of rent but told me sorry we running 30 days a month, while I paid until the 31st. Our lease was done on the 29th. I hope you all take this as a testimony to get out while you can or not move here. I myself will be reporting this company and property to the BBB and Health Department. It's sad that you can live somewhere that truly does not care about your well being and concerns but wants that monthly check. read more

Surf House is currently managed by Advance Property Management one of several failed management companies to have occupied the leasing office in the past three years. Each of the three which have been here during my three years of residence this one is by far the most the worst of all the incompetent staff of late. Aside from the unprofessional demeanor of the staff there are numerous problems with aging complex. Structural damage due to termite infestation, dilapidated plumbing, the mounds of dog feces scattered throughout the property lends to a health and safety issue. My own dog has suffered from many health issues as a result. My unit is in almost uninhabitable condition, and due to the constant changes in management nothing is ever followed up on. Perhaps as we continue with on with management lottery here things will eventually get better? My wife and I cannot wait to be released from this nightmare of exorbitant rent and very little return on our money. ASC. read more

Overall, Advanced Management Company goes above and beyond for their tenants. AMC took ownership a few months back, and I have noticed exquisite, prominent changes. For starters, they repaired the spa that was constantly broken every 2 weeks with the old management. Then, they renovated the pool/spa by adding a beautiful awning and tiki lights. They added in brand new security cameras, making us feel more safe and protected. They fixed the parking gate that was constantly broken with the old management. Also, they have been consistently updating the landscape and shrubbery around the property, making it appear more inviting. Additionally, Surf House is a wonderful and safe community for pets! Speaking from a personal perspective, Joell is a magnanimous property manager. She is sweet, kind, professional, and extremely empathetic towards her tenants. She is always quick to respond via email or phone call. She always has a bright smile on her face to welcome her tenants and any prospective clients. She truly makes me and my fiancé feel appreciated and welcome living here. When we had a leak in our pipes underneath the foundation, Joell and the head of maintenance Oliver swiftly took care of the issue by hiring a plumbing team to repair the leaks. Now, our apartment looks as good as new again with no leaks! The maintenance team also made sure to deep clean the areas that were affected by the water that leaked out of the pipes through the floor. I am extremely impressed with how they treated us as tenants. I would highly recommend Surf House Apartments to anyone! read more
