This is the santa cruz municipal wharf (hereafter called simply "The Wharf) edition of a small (three stores) fashion and/or gift chain. More fashion then gift really, unless you gift a lot of clothes.
The Wharf has considerable parking, but when in summer parking will be a premium, not to mention the traffic snarl caused by everyone on the entire planet trying to get to this area. So most times you won't have too much trouble parking but if you are trying to get here on a summer weekend, midday, either have an extremely comfortable car that you don't mind sitting in for long periods of time, or go for some park and ride action. In case it matters, downtown santa cruz has considerable parking, offers a free shuttle to the wharf, and is a ten to fifteen minute walk away.
Anywhoo, Surf Life is one of a half dozen or so shopping spots on the wharf, and it's one of the better clothing shops. the clothing is of the beach style-so shirts, shorts, towels, flip flops, ball caps, frilly blouses all with santa cruz on them somewhere. There's a small jewelry counter, heavy on the costume jewelry, and the obligatory refrigerator magnets required by law in any retail joint located within a 15-25 mile radius of the beach. Also a small stationary stand-cards and postcards just in case you need some.
Pricing while high-this isn't wal mart-isn't actually all that over the top for the area. Say 15-20 bucks for a shirt/hoodie, a little bit better at the bargain rack in back.
So if you are looking for a santa cruz shirt/hat/hoodie combo to sport back home this isn't the worst choice and is not too shabby a browse in general. read more
