That was the second time that we went to a cooking demonstration here. This time we prepared a Mediterranean meal, Patricia wad our chef instructor. She was absolutely great. Taking her time to answer our questions and showing us how to prepare our dishes. What a great evening everyone had! The first item that we helped prepare was a glazed almond cake. We also prepared a pine nut couscous with dried apricots. Our side dish was marinated zucchini with an oregano and sun dried tomato vinaigrette that our group made. Our main dish was sautéed shrimp with Mediterranean spices and a garlic aioli. Great food and an excellent experience. read more

I always enjoy going to Sur La Table at the Mercato mall. It's in a great location and people who work there are friendly and helpful. The store is well stocked with merchandise and if you can't find what you want, their mail order service is always available. Items are well packed, I have a fair number of plates and bowls, none has ever arrived broken. Shopping in this store is fun, especially if you like kitchen gadgets and seeing the latest items out there. If you buy something breakable, they take great care in wrapping it, so you can get it home without having issues. As a long time customer, I've always been pleased with their good service and quality products. The cooking classes that they offer look like fun and a way to increase your cooking skills! We decided the machine was not what we wanted and took it back, with the idea of buying a different one. We were then told by a different associate that if we used it we could not return it. After walking around and eating dinner, we decided to stop in real quick before they closed. They were closing in 15 minutes so I tried to run to the back to look at some of the clearance items. I did not get a chance to take any photos as I saw a super cool utensil container for my sister. I was looking at all of the prices and they had some markdowns of up to 50% off. They did have some Christmas items that were one of the bigger sales. There were two women working in the store. They were following Covid procedures. They wore masks and required masks inside. One woman came in and checked up on us. She was really nice and offered some assistance. The store was super organized and clean. This is one of my favorite stores in Michigan. We were a group of 11 in our 60s, 70s and 80s and we did the flank steak cooking class one evening. Wendy was wonderful and the food was delicious. I would've rated it five star but there were only four chairs for 11 people! Really no place to sit down while you're eating this delicious meal? We brought our wine and enjoyed each other's company, but they need to replenish the chairs which they said were taken away during Covid. The homemade pasta was so much fun to make. Went with a group of 16 friends and had a great time. Wendy was our chef, Cindy was the assistant. Well organized, easy to follow instructions. We cooked on 4 burners so our group was split into 4 smaller groups of 4 so that everyone could participate. We learned how to make a chicken and chorizo paella, shrimp, stuffed dates and homemade pistachio ice cream. As an ice cream aficionado, Bluebell ice cream is my all time favorite but this was hands down better, sweet, creamy and a rich taste. I would recommend this cooking class ONLY to people who like to have fun !!!! (And we got to eat everything we cooked which made it twice as good). read more

This was my second visit to Naples and my second visit to Sur La Table to partake in a cooking class, since the first one was awesome. This one, also very good, was different in that it was a full (16 person) class. It definitely loses a little something when that big. The final dinner involved us all standing at the table to eat. This part was a definite not cool point in the class. Instructors and participants were all great but hard to actively do more than one thing and lacked the intimacy (and sit down dinner) of the first class. A coupon brought us back to a Thai cooking class at Sur la table. Menu of the day was grilled steak salad, pumpkin curry soup, tofu pad thai and forbidden rice for dessert. We took an Italian  cooking class a year ago and were looking forward to making some Thai food. We were greeted by the staff and provided with a copy of the recipes. BUYER BEWARE!!! I bought a potato masher with a ricer combined (18.99). I bought it because I could not find our old potato masher, which my husband found for me in the drawer. I did use it to see if I liked it better which I did not. Horrible piece of equipment. So, with the receipt and the label that was on the masher, I brought it back. My first question was if I had used it. Yes, but it worked horribly. SO THE NEW POLICY IS FOR ANYTHING BOUGHT AFTER NOVEMBER 1, THERE ARE NO RETURNS FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON. This is not stated by the registers. It is on the receipt but as buyers, we have always known if we bring back the item with both receipts we get our money back. NOT HERE. What if you buy something for someone for Christmas and the item does not work after trying it out (think expensive, several hundred dollar coffee maker?) SORRY, NO RETURNS..... I was so disgusted, I left the potato masher there, maybe they can use it for their cooking classes. Came here to a cookIng class with girlfriend. This was my first ever cooking class, and I'm so happy that I got to have this first experience at this location. We had a 10am class, which turned out to be too early in the morning for many people. So the class consisted of just me, my girlfriend and the incredible Chef John. The chef was very knowledgeable and very personable. Our class instruction was to make pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe. In addition, we also got to make some bonboloni. We made so much delicious food that we had plenty to eat after class and enough to take some goodies home. This class is very easy for amateurs such as myself and chef provides great instruction for any newcomers to the kitchen. And for any fans of shoppers, you do receive a 10% coupon to use within the store upon completion of the class. I cannot wait to come back and take more classes. read more

I have been to several cooking classes here but the one I went to today was absolutely horrible! The chef was new and it was clear he had never made cannolis before! There were many mistakes made by him and we had to redo several steps numerous times. It is sad to spend nearly 200$ for this as the finish product. read more

Go-to date night for those who love to cook!! My boyfriend and I decided to book the "winter ravioli workshop" and we were pleasantly surprised by skill of the chef, quality of the ingredients and how involved we got to be in the cooking experience!! My sister had taken a similar class last year and so when i saw there was a ravioli workshop I knew I had to try!! The class allows you to bring your own beer and wine (the will cork it for you and provide glasses) but does not havce any for sale in store. If you want a nice bottle to enjoy while you cook I reccomend stopping at whole foods right around the corner before you head into sur la table! The class began with an intro to the various dishes we would be making and the chef even prepared a tomato basil flatbread for us to enjoy while he spoke! This class was extremely hands on which we loved! I have experienced other classes where the chef does most of the work or you work in larger groups. This set up was great, everyone was split into groups of 2 and given individual ingredients to make the pasta dough! The filling and sauces were divided among us but we all got to use the pasta maker and make our own raviolis. After prepping the food, you sit down for a "family style" meal to enjoy the food--we had 2 types of raviolis each in a delicious sauce, a salad and the chef even treated us to some homemade gelato to end!! Overall, this is an amazing class--my only critique would be that there could be a little more space for each couple. Our class was almost 1 hour longer than advertised and we left happy and full! The cooking classes have really gone downhill since they lost Brian. Their still doing a great is job of creating innovative menus, but they are extremely disorganized now. This is evidenced by the fact that the instructors listed online are rarely accurate, many menus have been reduced to 3 courses from 4, some of the instructors swap out key ingredients last minute (which is extremely disappointing if you were looking forward to a particular recipe), classes are disorderly and instructors have been yelling to command attention from students, vents don't work well so it gets so smokey in the classroom, a couple of their monsters have been down for months. Overall, it's just become a clumsy hot mess, a mere glimmer of the gem it once was. It's not terrible but you just really can't be sure what you're in for anymore, which can be quite embarrassing when you bring guests. I'm hoping it will bounce back eventually because it really was a fun activity to share with friends or a date. read more

Took the "Date Night in Paris" class here for my anniversary with my husband and was blown away!! From start to finish we enjoyed every minute, learned a lot and ate delicious food. We were not expecting a full dinner as it says you will enjoy "a generous taste" on the website but we sat down to a 3 course meal family style after cooking. Everything was so delicious, we actually saved the recipes and recreated at home. I love that it's BYOB and that the chef comes around to each group to personally explain or help. My only advice would be to go in a group of 4 if you want to avoid being partnered with another random couple for cooking. I've been to Sur La Table cooking classes all over the U.S. and recently to Chef Bradley's date night class (Surf and Turf) with Spicy Citrus Shrimp and Grilled Asparagus with Pesto. Wow, did he knock it out the park! We were very impressed. Chef Bradley was remarkably knowledgeable and taught us new techniques that we will continue to do and use for our guests. We took advantage of the 20% discount and bought almost everything he recommended and used in the class. Date night was so much fun and not just a class, but a real chef experience. Growing up in Canada, I used to watch TV shows where they would find the most awesome kitchy gadgets to make the coolest gourmet dishes at Sur la Table....and now that they have one in Naples, I can be a gourmet chef too (or at least look like one :)) This place is a chef-wanna-be's dream, and is quite the hyper-sensory experience - you are welcomed by the smell of sample coffee brewing, you can easily view shelf upon shelf of all these cool items you think you would never need, and you are greeted by knowledgeable and friendly staff. Sale signs were clearly marked, and they have a wealth of clearance items for the thrifty shoppers. The staff was friendly and not overly friendly. They allow you to wander the store. I had specific items to purchase, and my salesperson knew exactly where I could find them and gave me options. So, if you need a potato brush, silpat, cupcake storage or a le creuset dutch oven, you'll definitely find it there in hands reach. Pricey items; however, the quality of items sold and the sales make up for it. This store is situated on a prime spot at The Mercato and is visible from the main drag. Parking can be tricky as it is shared with the Whole Foods parking lot and typical Mercato chaos. Be sure to consider signing up for emails. After reading some of the reviews I should clarify. As a chef instructor here I can say that only once in 6 months has a class that I've taught had only 3 recipies while having 5 instead of 4 has happened several times. When ingredients have been substituted it has been an availability issue, not a chef's choice. When the instructor listed online is not accurate it is because we all work full time jobs and have family issues like everyone else such as illnesses, deaths, and other emergencies and our very accomodating resident chefs will take over teaching the class or find a replacement instructor. On the whole, we don't teach after 8-12 hour work days because of the incredible pay (it is not) or even the need of supplemental income. We do it for our love of cooking and our desire to share our knowledge with others. I personally was faced with the fact that I am not as young as I used to be and can no longer pull 70+ hour weeks, so I had 2 options. Quit teaching part time or cut my hours at my much higher paying full time job. Because of my love for my Sur LA Table job I chose the latter. My income went down substantially but I'm a much happier person because what i do touches peoples lives in a very real way that I cannot do without. I understand that everyone's opinion is valid and mean absolutely no offense to anyone who has had a less than perfect experience in a cooking class but I do feel the need to explain the issues stated here. If it has been a while since your last class, give us another try. When any chef leaves there is always a transitional period and usually it is the customer who suffers. As some criticism is from the month after such a transition all I can say is that the class organization is good enough to satisfy even my obsessive need for order and our resident chef and assistant resident do an incredible job satisfying the ever changing needs and dietary restrictions of our customers. Chef Anita taught our Italian dinner class and we had a wonderful time. I liked that we were able to be very hands on and could volunteer to prepare each of the dishes. We made roasted tomato and goat cheese risotto, grilled fish on a bed of greens, and raspberry sorbet. Chef Anita verbally guided us through the steps, and everything had been pre measured, making it quite simple for a beginner. Chef Anita was very friendly and helpful in answering my questions and was also very patient with a couple students who were overly chatty and distracting. I recommend taking one of these classes, its a nice evening spent learning new recipes, drinking wine (you can buy a bottle next door at Whole Foods), and eating a lovely dinner. read more

This 1 star is for this past weekend. Myself and 2 other friends had a class scheduled for Sunday, 8/27. It had been raining non stop for 2 days. At about 2:30 I attempt to leave home and quickly realized I was flooded in. The water was way above my cars tires and I hadn't even gotten to the gate in my community. Another friend said she was able to get out so she would meet me outside my complex, well when she got to McGregor, the water had reached the hood of her car, her battery light came on & the car stalled. I called Sur la table to cancel because there was no way we could make it to our 4pm class... well the response I was received was "That's too bad, it isn't flooded here in Naples, you should have called 48hrs ago which is the cancellation policy".... ummm excuse me? Had I been flooded in 48hrs earlier I WOULD have called in. I wasn't necessarily expecting a refund, but a credit would have been nice or a discount on a future class. I mean it was all over the news how flooded in a lot of areas were... I didn't just blow the class off. Thanks for the compassion Sur la table. read more

Their products are not unique and can be found online or any other kitchen store. The management should recognize that customer service is what matters, now since we could shop online or elsewhere.
