I will admit this is not my first time in a croissant class or making laminated dough. I realize we are all at different levels of experience. This is a 3-hour class that did not have enough time to allow the croissants to proof - when I saw that I gave up. I was looking forward to enjoying crunchy, buttery, savory and sweet croissants. This was basically how not to finish your croissants at home - don't let them proof enough. If you can't do that in the time frame make the class longer, warm up the kitchen or don't teach it. If the instructor had paid attention - a little skill building on how to roll out dough would have been helpful. Rolling dough and butter for the lamination is a thing - rectangles, smooth, even thickness, not too much flour. Well our group of 4 knew none of that. Yet the instructor just carried on. She did give a great tip to get your butter the right size so you can make your dough fit the butter. But didn't make up for all the work ending in croissants that never rose/proofed before baking. Three hours, 2 -15 min breaks for unproofed ham and cheese and cinnamon rolls. She showed us how to roll out, cut and roll up the classic croissant - one mini and moved on. Honestly class would have been better getting to a classic, well proofed croissant and looked a lot better than the flat squares and cinnamon rolls. The cooking classes. That's what sets this place apart from any other kitchen store. We went to the Tuscan Surf & Turf class last Tuesday evening, and it was such a fun and hands-on experience. The class started at 7 PM, and right away the chef made everyone feel welcome. The setup was super organized -- all the ingredients prepped and waiting at our stations, everything spotless and professional. We started with steak tagliata (so tender!) served with arugula and crispy fried capers. Then we made risotto, and wow... I had no idea what goes into making a proper risotto. It's a full-on process that requires patience and technique -- constant stirring, timing, and tasting. I walked out of there with a new appreciation for every chef who's ever made a creamy risotto from scratch. Before we even started cooking, the chef did a demo showing how to make brittle and vanilla panna cotta for dessert. Watching the sugar caramelize and seeing the panna cotta come together was so cool -- and of course, we got to taste everything! A few notes: You do have to wash your hands and tie your hair back. Hygiene matters when you're sharing a kitchen space with others! You'll be working in small groups -- so be ready to mingle. We got lucky -- my boyfriend and I had our own station, which was perfect because we could do our own thing and keep it clean. (Some people washed their hands once and called it a day ). At the end, you get to take home all the food you cooked, which is honestly such a win. We had a full dinner for two ready to go by the end of class. The class was the perfect mix of education, fun, and laughter. It's such a great date night idea or even something to do with friends. We learned, we laughed, and we definitely ate well. We've already signed up for another class next month because we loved it that much. And let's talk about the store -- they truly have everything: baking tools, cookware, sauces, spices, chocolates, gadgets, and more. I took my friend to a holiday macaron making class at this location. The macarons were delicious but the instructor was awful. Instead of instructions, he would just make snide comments that we were doing it wrong after telling us once what to do. After giving us another table's batch of macarons on the first flavor, we made sure to make clear distinct marks with our second batch. When he have us the wrong batch again, we found ours at another table and switched them. He yelled at our whole group and told us if we ever did that again, he is going to ask us to leave. The husband of the couple we got paired with ended up leaving. The instructor did not come back to our group the rest of the class. Luckily it was basically over. It was fun to learn how to make the macarons but the rudeness was not worth it, especially with how expensive the classes are! read more

Culmination of 5 years! 15 min early is too early, 7, start time in on time, lol. We went for our Anniversary. Chef Izzy made the class fun. She was engaging and she was very good with the instructions. 4 couples with her and an assistant. The theme was diner in Paris: scallops, mashed potatoes, salad and mousse. It was fun, we laughed, tastes tested, took turns...did us. It's been a few years since we cooked together. His love language my past time ...a great combo. My husband booked us a coffee class at Sur La Table as a little day date. We arranged childcare ahead of time -- my mother-in-law even took the morning off to watch our baby -- and we showed up right at opening on a Saturday morning excited for the class. When we arrived (the class was scheduled for 9:00am), we were greeted rather coldly by a man who told us to "shop around" while they got the class ready. A couple minutes later, he asked for our names, checked the list, and casually told us we weren't on it. We pulled up the email confirmation and told him the name of the class, and he then informed us the class had been canceled "because nobody booked it." The problem? We did book it. My husband had multiple confirmation emails, including one sent the night before confirming the class. Instead of apologizing or trying to help, the store manager repeatedly dismissed us and continued insisting nobody had booked it. We explained that we had arranged childcare and planned our entire morning around this experience, and asked if there was another class we could join instead. His response was that we could join another class "if you want to pay an additional $50" -- said in an incredibly condescending tone. At that point, my husband requested a refund. Still no apology. No accountability. No attempt to make the situation right. While waiting for the refund, I asked the very kind cashier who the store manager was, and I was shocked to learn it was the same man who had been treating us so rudely and dismissively the entire time. A store manager should know how to handle customer service situations professionally, especially when the store was clearly at fault for failing to notify customers about a cancellation. I contacted corporate afterward and was told I would receive a callback from the district manager, but I still haven't heard anything. Overall, this was an incredibly disappointing experience. Mistakes happen, but the complete lack of communication, empathy, professionalism, and customer service is what made this experience so awful read more

I generally have a good experience in this store. I walked by the store on December 22 and they had a sign outside offering gift wrapping for purchases over $100. For the busy shopper like me, I stopped in to grab a few things. After a $130 purchase, gift wrapping was not offered. When asked about it, they said they did not have time. This was such a fun experience! Our team came here for a team build and it was a great way to build team work and learn some new tricks for the kitchen! We came to one of the night classes for the French bistro experience and it was a great time. We were paired up according to how we signed up and then put into groups of four. Everything had been prepped for us and pre-measured so that we could solely focus on the actual cooking components. There is plenty of time and opportunity for each person to work on each recipe and the chef in charge really took his time to work with each group and give us pointers and look at our work. The class itself was a couple of hours and then you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor by enjoying the meal that you all worked on together. In this class we made chicken thighs and were taught some great tricks that go against what you normally see online in recipes. I tried this method again at home and the result was the best chicken thighs I've ever made. The skin was perfectly crispy just as the chef taught us to make and the meat practically fell off the bone. We'll definitely be coming back to try some other classes. This is a great class for any level of experience you have. The people in our class definitely varied in skill level but we all learned something new that we could apply at home! read more

First, despite the website saying you can bring your own drinks, we were rudely told at the door that it's a dry store and had to take our wine back to the car. Not a huge deal, but the way it was handled felt unwelcoming. We also arrived early, as suggested, but were told (not nicely) to come back because they weren't ready yet. A simple polite heads-up would have gone a long way. The class itself felt unorganized. The chef, Mark, seemed inexperienced in Moroccon cuisine, constantly checking instructions, and worst of all--the ingredients were prepped wrong. first, we weren't given up inappropriate amounts of butter for the pastry itself, then we were given salt instead of sugar for a pastry, which made my fiancé sick. When we let them know, there was no real apology or accountability. Overall, the idea is great, but the staff and execution made it a disappointing experience. I'd recommend Sur La Table classes, but maybe not with this particular chef or team. read more

Amazing Date Night Experience. We went for their Date Night: Steakhouse Signature and made NY Strip Steak with a Wild Mushroom Sauce, Truffled Mashed Potatoes, Cheddar and Spring Onion Popovers, Vanilla Crème Brûlée. Our lead chef was super knowledgeable and course corrected us along the way with great encouragement. Everything we made was amazing. The class is video and photo friendly but you will need to wash your hands before returning back to your cooking. We worked at a station with another couple but there was plenty of food. The class was about 2 and a half hours in total with a break and infused water available. It goes by fast because you're always cooking or observing a demo. Coffee maker did not work was told when we purchased it we could return it to the store brought it to the store. They said no we have to ship it. Review for Croissant Class Enjoyed a class to learn about laminated dough and croissants. It's a multi step class where you use the class before's dough. (Because you have to let it rest and whatnot so you cannot use "fresh"..."just made" dough.) The class room is actually kinda small where it's 4 people per table which is probably about 48" long so..... Not a lot of room. Really only 2 people at a time can do anything. Allot 3 hours for this class....we started a little after 9am and ended a little after 12 noon. If you want to take a class"with" someone.... Be sure to sign up at the same time. They assign work stations and partners. The class was well organized and explained. We also received hard copies of the instructions. Best part.... You get to eat your creations straight from the oven. Wear layers...I started out cold, but then the ovens were turned on and it got warm and stuffy (which wasn't surprising I guess.) I will definitely be taking other classes in the future. read more

I spend most of my free time enjoying leaving five star Hughes and barely do I leave anything but a good review however, after several days of contemplating, I decided that I needed to let the management know what happens in their store. There's a young girl by the name of Erica I believe. She's a smart ass like you wouldn't believe she acts as if she's deserves some kind of trophy for helping you and asking her for something is actually putting you in a state of feeling guilty. We've been coming in there for years and live near this location and enjoy browsing around, but the last couple times we've been in we've had the unfortunate experience of dealing with her. There's a nice woman probably in her early 60s with shorter hair that is so genuine and a black lady with long hair that's extremely helpful as well, but I don't want to take a chance of coming back and dealing with this young girl. She's phony and just the way she is with people that walk into the door is very unpleasant. read more

Maybe she's not new but I hadn't seen her before. She doesn't let me look in peace and is constantly watching me like a hawk. If I touch an item/display she tells me I need to be careful or asks if I'm buying anything. I don't like to shop with someone staring at me from the next aisle or breathing down my neck. I'm an adult and I know how to handle kitchen items. I haven't bought anything since I started dealing with her. I just feel like she's trying to get me out of the store. She also doesn't treat anyone else this way. It feels targeted like I'm being profiled. Other customers get left alone to shop in peace. I cannot wait to come back and take another cooking class!! A close friend of mine came on one weekday evening to take a cooking class, and the particular class theme that evening was "Wok Classics." I have to at least mention that I went to culinary school in 2008 and have an associates degree. During that time, part of my required volunteer experience hours were obtained by helping instructors teach weekend cooking classes to the public. Great experience! So although my friend had never been to one of these classes, and neither have I as a student... I at least have seen them in action on several occasions. (And if I'm being honest, it meant I had certain expectations! Lol) With that said, the class here at Sur La Table did not disappoint in even the slightest! It was well organized, clean, fun, informative and overall a great experience! Our instructor was a very fun, engaging, witty & knowledgeable lady - Chef Molly! She kept the entire group very engaged, and she made sure that everyone was very comfortable at the level of learning and pace that each individual wanted to go at during the class. The recipes were great and produced a totally tasty meal for us to enjoy at the end of class. My friend that was experiencing this for the first time was blown away and had such and amazing time, and so did I even with all my high expectations! Well done Molly, Jake, & Sur La Table! I took two cooking classes in one day at Sur La Table with a friend. We started with a basic knife skills class, then went back for a surf and turf cooking class at night. We are both pretty experienced home cooks. The knife skills class was the better of the two. We actually learned some neat tips and techniques, and we got to practice chopping and dicing and slicing everything from fresh carrots to onions and oranges. It would've been nice if we had more vegetables to play around with, especially for the price, but it was a very useful class. The evening steak class wasn't so fun. Our instructor Molly was nice, but seemed frazzled for most of the evening. She rushed the actual cooking, and was very bossy towards all the participants. It didn't bother me until she told me I needed to remove my steak and shrimp from the heat ASAP or it would be overcooked. My instincts kicked in and I knew better than to listen to her, but I took the meat and seafood off the heat. Yep, they were RAW. Inedible. It was a major annoyance, and I'm still irritated about that because I knew she was incorrect. Other people in the class had to have her put their steaks in the oven because they were also inedibly rare. The things we cooked were overly (and needlessly) complicated. We made a freaking creme brulee, something a standard home cook wouldn't have the time, skills, patience, or equipment to make. We used a blow torch! Making something like that is showy for sure, but it's not practical. My friend and I agreed that we would rather have learned to make something that we could confidently attempt in our own kitchens at home. We were given emailed recipes for the stuff we cooked, but I didn't want to make any of the things on the menu. I guess it was sort of fun to pretend like I was on Top Chef for a night, but I didn't learn anything new. These classes are very expensive as well. I do not think I would do another one any time soon, but maybe I would try something a little more exotic if I attended another in the future. read more

We chose a class where you get to make a salad and 2 personal-sized pizzas. You are in a group of about 10-12ish. The chef who taught us was absolutely wonderful and helpful. I felt like she was very informative and was able to answer any questions our group had. I've taken other cooking classes in big groups where I feel like you don't get to be as hands-on. However, we pretty much did everything ourselves in this class which was awesome. My friend and I enjoyed our experience so much that we booked another one to learn how to cook steak! The tables are too small and felt extremely cramped to accommodate four people. We were a party of three and had another lady at our table to make four. All food was measured and prepped on sheets upon arrival. Therefore, it was mainly assembling the food which did not allow enough tasks for four people to be involved. It felt very awkward. After standing for nearly two hours to eat standing up was not enjoyable. Would have been much more enjoyable to have a small bar stool to sit and enjoy the meal. The 5-star review is for Andrea, one of the store managers that helped us yesterday. We ordered a Breville smart oven/air fryer online and opted to pick it up in the store. They evidently converted to a new online ordering system that is FUBAR. I called customer service to get the # required in order to pick up in store because the order status showed "processing", more than 24 hours after ordering. I unfortunately left that # at home, so Andrea called customer service for the #, but it didn't show up in the store computer system. The SLT customer service computer system didn't jibe with the in-store system. Andrea hung up and called back in hopes she could speak with a supervisor. We said just cancel the order and we'll just buy one at the store, at which point customer service said it couldn't be canceled. This went on for close to an hour, with Andrea never giving up. We ended up buying one from the store and will cancel the initial online order when we're "allowed" to do so. Andrea even carried the box to our car (we pulled up curbside). How's that for going above and beyond? And she apologized profusely for the snafu, although she wasn't at fault at all. She's a wonderful asset to SLT and hope the company recognizes that. We've always had great customer service at this SLT but Andrea seriously is an all-star. read more

I've been here twice. First time was great and felt like what I paid for , which was a date night class for TWO. The last time (NYE) it was the complete opposite. Class was packed with ppl and 4 to a station. It was awkward cooking with strangers for our date night. We paid $200 and had to share a 6 oz steak. I understand your classes are in groups of 4 because that's the response I see you guys giving but that doesn't mean your customers feelings on this aren't valid. If it's a "date night" I think you guys should rethink the amount of ppl. I was so turned off by the last experience, I wouldn't go again.
