Can I just say that in Ireland there are so many grocery stores it is amazing. I only went in there…read moreto see if they had coffee, which they do, but it's not the correct coffee that I needed. I also wanted to see if they had creamer, that didn't work out as well either. But while I was in there, I could not believe my eyes. The bread, the food, the alcohol, the toys, etc. how much cheaper everything was! I was in there for about an hour and could not believe that here in America we spend so much more on food than what is really needed. The convenience of having so many grocery stores everywhere was also great. What was interesting is that you walk through a barrier with a security guard do your shopping, and then you go to an automated checkout. To walk out of the barrier you have to scan your receipt. It's pretty convenient and I see now here in America Safeway specially in some areas they have come to the same exact process. Well, I walked in there to get coffee, I ended up getting a baguette cheese, meat, cream, cream cheese, coffee, smoked salmon, and a few other items and let me tell you it was delicious. The workers there are not that friendly, and if you want to buy alcohol, you have to do it at 10:30 AM. The store was very clean compared to some stores here in America and there was a lot to choose from.

This LIDL is clean, decently stocked and nicely priced. The grab-and-go food was pretty well picked over this afternoon but I found a sandwich triangle as well as some candies (some of which might survive the journey and go into my suitcase home) and a very inexpensive bottle of sparkling water. Self-checkout worked fine and I don't need a bag since I have my backpack. Easy, pleasy. [Review 1840 of 2024 - 96 in Republic of Ireland - 22862 overall]

They've got my absolute favorite pre made sandwich here (can't tell you what it is or you'll come…read morein and eat it and I won't have any)- but although the sandwiches are more expensive than Tesco, they beat Tesco by a mile. Get your fruit and drinks at Tesco- but get your main for lunch here. It really is good. The hot/cold bar is good as well- nice deli style arrangement of all sorts of goodies.

And no, just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's rubbish; it's substantial, flavoursome and created using fresh ingredients from their palatable in-house deli. For one week at a time a certain type of baguette is decided upon and sold for this unchangeable price, this week it is the tasty BLT whilst last week I enjoyed the Chicken Salad one, all for this unbelievably low-cost price. If that week's chosen 'madness' doesn't tickle your fancy then Londis' deli offers a variety of delicious ingredients to be used as fillings for sandwiches and baguettes. I particularly relish in ordering a toasted Panini with tomato, ham and cheese - a succulent treat on those hangover days. With an internal ATM machine, well-stocked tobacconist and newsagents as well as an impressive selection of groceries all stocked under the same roof it's easy to see why Londis is such an institution to unfussy Dubliners who are looking for a speedy shopping experience that doesn't compromise quality.
