terrible employee negligence! I saw a hard working man having to take care of the register AND cook/prepare the food. he was absolutely by himself, no other worker was there to help him and I saw the stress pile up for him. he isn't the only worker who's left alone to take care of everything, there's another worker who mentioned she too would be left alone to do tasks. Absolutely disgusting! The boss behind this should do better by treating their employees with respect, not to leave them alone on fulfilling things. TRY POLLO GIRO and SHOP AT SUPER MERCADO El GUERO before you waste your time and money here. First question, Is the tall gentleman with the haircut of a boy, the owner or manager? And what was he doing hanging out in the restaurant area while I waited 50 minutes for 6 tacos and 1 huarache? Im not sure. But while I waited he had ample time to verbally disrespect me, while freely COUGHING without covering his mouth. His employees followed his lead. I dont have a feeling, I know the employees the restaurant we're having a laugh. I know because I speak the language. Finally the order was wrong. I drove back to return the food without request for replacements or refund. The cook is complicit in the matter too, he knows what was happening, he doesn't aim for cold bad food. At least they're there... All 3 things that I bought from the grocery store were expired. Including the 2 liter of Mug Root beer. How long does pop sit before it expires? I didn't know it was even possible. I was only buying the pop to meet the $5 minimum credit card charge. Can't help but get overwhelmed by the massive menu selection, that hovers over the open kitchen of the taqueria portion of the grocery store. Service could of been a tad-bit better, which could of stemmed from my non-existent bilingual skills. However, she was the only one waitress there, so i'll give it the benefit of the doubt as it was a moderately-packed and could of been a little overwhelmed at the time. Wanted to stray away from my usual burrito/tacos routine so I got a desebrada enchilada plate (little high at $8.99) and a milanesa torta to go. The enchiladas and the rice and beans on the side, were amazing! Desebrada is a type of shredded beef, which was a little spicy and had a good amount of flavor. The milanesa (breaded steak) torta was also above average as I liked the creamy texture from the mayo, guacamole, and sour cream, which made it great for me. The inside might looked dumpy, but don't let that deter you from seeking this place. read more

The restaurant here is delicious and worth the cost. I've been coming to this place for about 12 years. For mother's day, I ordered a pan of the grilled chicken which comes with grilled jalapenos and onions, rice and beans. The chicken is phenomenal! My only gripe is sometimes the workers do not understand English. I also ordered 2 tripas tacos and got home and had 3 tacos which appeared and tasted like a BBQ pork. They were okay but my stomach and taste buds wanted Tripas tacos so of course I"ll be back soon and make sure I order from someone who clearly understands I want Tripas Tacos - yummm yumm! read more

The grocery store is clean and bright, and their packaged product selection is great. I have not tried their meats, but the butcher's cases have some nice-looking cuts of meat that I wouldn't mind trying. You can get better produce with a much greater variety at Cermak Fresh Market nearby, so I wouldn't buy a lot of produce at Supermercado Aurora. The prices are a little higher than a few other places in town, but I love the mom-and-pop feeling of this store. The Taqueria is terrific, especially if you go on a Sunday, when they have a tacos de guisados setup on one side - it's like the taquerias in Mexico that Rick Bayless is always talking about: big bowls filled with different meats, a few sauces, and tons of fresh tortillas that are filled to order while you watch. Heavenly. The pastor meat is very good - it is usually pretty mild and contains little hunks of grilled pineapple. On our most recent visit, it was a little more spicy and dry, and I didn't taste any pineapple. This might mean that the dishes at the Taqueria are not the most consistent, but I am looking forward to testing this hypothesis with lots more trials. The spanish rice is just rice, no veggies or anything special. I don't know what possessed us to order nachos at a real taqueria, so I split the blame for their mediocrity 50-50. Definitely made with canned cheese. And not the good, guilty-pleasure-style canned cheese. The taqueria is a little more pricey than similar places in the area, but it's worth the upcharge. These are also the best tortillas ever - we now get a couple dozen almost every week. It is very difficult to restrain oneself on the trip home, holding the foil package filled with fresh, hot tortillas. Often, we find that a tortilla or two is missing by the time we get home. Also, on weekends, there's a fruit stand on your way out, where you can get cups of sliced fruit, smoothies, and desserts. Lovely. The place wasn't a mob scene like so many other stores on Sundays, though we may have just been there at a quiet time. I like this place! read more
