Nelson Tile - Review of Kitchen Countertop Installation…read more We worked directly with Chris Nelson, owner of Nelson Tile, for the installation of new quartz kitchen countertops. Our experience raised serious concerns about both workmanship and professionalism. Installation Issues From the start, Chris incorrectly measured the backsplash, resulting in a two-piece installation rather than a single seamless slab. He claimed the transition would be unnoticeable -- the photos tell a different story. One piece is already pulling away from the wall. Other reviews describe Chris as skilled with laser measuring, but that was not our experience. The visual difference between a single slab and a seamed installation is significant, and Chris offered neither a solution nor any cost reduction for this error. Material Quality Chris purchased the material from a distributor he admitted does little business with. Within just three months, we noticed significant chipping on both the edges and countertop surfaces. Chris sent his brother-in-law to repair the chips with filler. He acknowledged this was unusual and said he had seen it once before with another client, categorizing it as faulty material -- yet when we raised our concerns, he simply accused us of being hard on the countertops. For context, we replaced 15-year-old laminate countertops that had zero marks or chips. Over the following 18 months, we continued to experience additional chipping, hundreds of scratches, and pitting across the entire countertop surface. We eventually switched to plastic plates out of concern that any ceramic or glass contact would cause further damage (see photos). Attempted Resolution I had Chris return to the house. It was clear he was reluctant to acknowledge faulty material, but after some pressure he agreed to have the distributor conduct an on-site inspection. The distributor was professional, photographed the damage, and reviewed it with his team. The following week, I received an email from Chris stating that the distributor had agreed to provide a replacement slab at no material cost -- but Chris quoted $6,500 for installation, excluded sink removal and reinstallation, disclaimed responsibility for any damage to finishes, appliances, or cabinets, and required that we agree not to post any negative public statements or reviews about Nelson Tile. Summary Based on our experience and the lack of professional accountability, we strongly recommend considering alternative companies. When you invest thousands of dollars in a kitchen remodel, you should expect quality materials and skilled installation. Unfortunately, neither was delivered in our experience with Chris Nelson. We will have the replacement material completed by a different installer.

So many things went wrong on our project - it would take pages and pages to list but some of the most important problems include: - failing to follow the plan laid out clearly in the paperwork to the extent that they had fish our remnants out of the trash to finish the job (this was admitted to us by their manufacturing tech) - damaging our countertops prior to installation which was confirmed by the company that make the slab and refusing any form of compensation for their error - charging us for something their sales person told us they could do but ultimately could not - blaming us or our contractor for a lost palette of tile that ultimately when I applied pressure they found in their own warehouse I could go on and on and on. When approached about the problems the owners were defensive and rude. I will never use this company again and our neighbors who used their contracting service had a similar experience. He is first-rate, polite, and is fair on the price and scheduling the coating. They did a superb job on our drive. It is a nice, clean, even coat of material that should last several years. Install went quickly and there were no issues of the material ending up where it did not belong. We give them five stars and recommend them highly. They were great, and we have no reservations about Greg and his crew.

A neighbor of ours who worked in construction came over after they were done and told us it's unusual to see people take the time to pack the edges the way they did. But it's very professional! It prevents cars and other traffic from eventually breaking down the edges and it looking terrible. So if you've saved your hard earned money like we did, and are finally ready to change from gravel to blacktop. Call these guys. They actually care!!!

BEWARE! My neighbor had a repair job done by Pacific Sealcoating. When the crew arrived they…read moremistakenly entered MY property and 'prepped' my driveway without my knowledge and consent. The prep work removed some semi loose material which helped to stabilize the pre existing cracks and thus destabilized my driveway. The crew didn't realize their mistake until my neighbor notified them they were at the wrong address. No one left any sort of message or even a card on my door to notify me. I reached out and spoke with the owner, Jesse Gowers, who said he would put tar sealer in the cracks and take care of it at no charge. He also told me his crew never mentioned to him what they had done, which struck me as very sketchy. Some weeks have passed and I reached out to PS to find out why they didn't do the repair work as promised. Well, they are now REFUSING to do what they gave me their word they were going to do. The owner was extremely irresponsible and unprofessional, callous, and rude when trying to work it out. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Reached out and the quote for the wood was double the price of the wholesaler and the overall quote was quite high. Asked to see what the cost would be if I did all the demo stuff myself and redid the trim myself and got the place ready. Quote barely changed so I decided to just wait. Actually went into the store a month or so later and talked with a nice girl who worked there. At this point I was just committed to hiring out the work as I had some extra money come in. Picked out a few options and was hoping to get quotes for those so that I could pick one and go ahead with the project. Week went by and didn't hear anything. Called and was told they would be sent soon. Another two weeks or more have gone by and no word. IMO the owner seems to be dismissive of anyone who isn't looking to pay top dollar for overcharged work. Will be going elsewhere and hopefully will find someone who won't be charging an arm and a leg and will have some respect for prospective customers.

I hired them for roughly $100,000 worth of residential landscaping work (no hardscaping, just grass, mulch and planting), and the results were extremely disappointing -- both in workmanship and customer service. The experience deteriorated to the point where I had to threaten legal action and report them to the Oregon CCB for breach of contract before anyone took my concerns seriously. A few highlights from the experience: * The project manager showed up to my property multiple times smelling strongly of alcohol -- on the rare occasions he actually came to the job site. * The professionally designed landscaping plan we paid for and provided to Newport was not followed. Major deviations were made without approval, which created unnecessary issues throughout the project. * Their estimate severely underbid the amount of mulch required for the property -- by more than 40 yards. This caused delays, frustration, and obvious concerns about the competence of the planning process. * Coordination between Newport Landscaping and Thompson Pump & Irrigation was terrible. I essentially had to act as the general contractor myself just to get the irrigation pond functioning properly, and it took months to resolve. * Jana, who I believe is an administrative manager, initially came to the property, listened to concerns, and assured me they would make things right. Unfortunately, nothing meaningful happened until I began threatening legal action and filing complaints with the CCB. There's far more I could say, but the bottom line is this: this company appears far too large and disorganized for the level of professionalism they advertise. Even some of their own employees openly complained about the company and management while on-site, which frankly is embarrassing. Read the 1-star reviews carefully. You may get lucky and have a good experience, but you may also end up deeply regretting your decision like I did.

I asked the realtor for advice and got someone to clear out the damaged flooring, etc. We got someone in there but it didn't look like a lot of care was taken. When I was in contact with my insurance company he gave me a list of preferred vendors that he regularly works with. PS., he had never heard of the original demo team (not a surprise). Summit was on this list and ready to aid me in restoring the home to be even better than it was before. They came and did a walk-through and gave me a quotation which seemed reasonable considering the damage to the primary suite bathroom and bedroom. I decided to upgrade the flooring from the original carpeting and had them put in vinyl plank which looked great. Cody was our project manager and he did a great job of keeping me updated considering I was managing this project from a distance as I still had my own house, job, etc., to consider. I worked with Lonnie, Robbie, and Donovan and they were all very helpful and were careful to minimize disruption as I was still working on some things within the house. I appreciated that they cleaned up after themselves (I mean everyone should) but they took care to do that and I was really pleased with the end result. Cody came and did a final walk-through and gave me the invoice. It was really nice to know that it was done and that I could move forward with my project. I hope to not have a need for restoration but if I do I will go to them again. They have workers throughout Oregon and into Washington so I would definitely recommend them.

I had an extremely positive experience with the restoration and demolition team at Summit. We had…read morea leaky dishwasher that damaged our wood floors. We are working with insurance and they have wonderful communication helping us with those claims. When it came to the demo Mickey was so nice. He kept my kitchen, while doing the demo so very clean and made the process feel much less overwhelming by having very little disarray. Not only did they help dry out our damaged area they checked for damage in surrounding areas. Mickey was Extremely thorough and so far this process has been great.
