I was impressed enough that I texted three friends photos, told my wife to start planning our son's birthday party here, and was actively asking managers about upgrading to full access because I had just discovered the larger "Adrenaline" area. For context: it's Indiana winter, it was cold, and I had a hooded sweatshirt on with the hood up because I was freezing. During my 2 1/2-hour stay, I spoke with two managers about memberships--neither said a word about my hood. While walking around trying to keep up my child, I heard someone off to the side say, "Take your hood off." I approached the man, who asked me politely. I politely asked why it was a rule. His response was shocking: "So I can see your entire face on my 50 cameras." This was 11:30 a.m. on a Friday, not a packed weekend night. I turned away to continue looking for my child, removed the hood, and muttered "whatever dude" under my breath. That's when the situation escalated wildly. He charged toward me, yelling: "I'm the owner--if you don't like it, leave!" I had already complied. That wasn't enough. He then shouted: "I'll give you your money back!" And finally said something that truly crossed a line: "If there are off-colored people with hoods up and we ask them to take it down, what would that look like?" I'm still trying to understand why race was brought into this at all. Let me be clear: * The facility is great for kids * The staff and managers were wonderful * We were not leaving anytime soon until this happened But the owner's behavior was aggressive, unnecessary, and completely inappropriate. A simple rule explanation would've sufficed. Instead, it turned into a power trip with racial commentary that had no place in the conversation. Rules are rules--but how you enforce them matters. This happened in a play area specifically designed for young children. Thankfully, my child was not hurt, but that was pure luck. The potential outcome here is horrifying to think about. A sharp weapon in a toddler ball pit represents a serious failure in safety, supervision, and inspection protocols. I immediately notified management. While the manager was kind, the severity of the situation felt dismissed. No immediate safety checks were done. No effort was made to notify other families currently playing. I was told "I just don't want you to leave and go tell all your friends that Smiley's is terrible." I'm sharing this not for attention and not to complain--but to bring awareness to other parents. Smiley's stayed open and operating like it's any other day. I will continue to advocate for children's safety and truly hope this leads to real change so no other family has to experience this fear--or something far worse. We were asked to purchase these from the cafe when we checked in... which if it is an established rule is fine, but a little annoying that the rule isn't universally applied. The play cafe is also a bit more expensive at ~$17 per child ages 1-10 with no discount for multiple children (as of Feb 2026) compared to other play cafes we have been to. It also did start getting quite crowded around 10:00 AM and there didn't seem to be an end in sight. Still, it is a nice cafe and I'd recommend it to others looking for a place to take your kids, especially if you can avoid the peak periods.

The place that looks like a large treehouse with two different floors, three slides, and plenty of things to do within the treehouse. The top level with the two big slides are for kids 5 and up Because you have to climb a ladder to get to the second level. There is an area for the kids under two to play with all kinds of toys. Lots of things for kids to play on and play with such as a kitchen with all the fixing grocery carts that seem to be the most popular area. Also, there was a book rack that you could sit down and read a book and comfortable chairs and couches with large Ottomans. Blocks and small basket ball hoop. There is also a kitchen so parents you can get you a cuppa coffee or water or hot chocolate and watch your kids play. They also have snacks for the little ones, there is a refrigerator. Great job to them and whoever does the hiring. For those having a party there, you are giving a dedicated table with a server. The party area is in an open fenced off area. They do not have party rooms. There are a few places in the play area for caregivers to sit while the little play, but those places few and far between. The slides there are awesome. They are huge and some can appear a bit intimidating. I wish I had a place like this when I was little. They also have a small zip line, a two basketball courts. There is also an area for little kids to play as well. I really like this places vibe. It is relatively clean and trendy, with big murals all over the walls. My coworkers and I had a chance to roll up our sleeves, and get creative! The instruction was perfect, nice pace with just enough direction so that I knew what I was doing, yet I didn't feel like I was being told what to do. We had our own food brought in, but they offered us the space and extra water. We ate and painted, it was fun. I look forward to painting here again sometime.
