I've called in here twice now and I've had so many different results in terms of obtaining samples. Firstly, I came in to ask if there was any samples and the staff member seemed nice and probably gave me about 6 or 7 from good brands too such as Sauvage by Dior, Hugo Boss and Jean Paul Gaultier. Secondly, I came in and did the same a week later with a new member of staff and was only given two, one was an opened Hugo Boss Intense and the other was just a standard one. The member of staff seemed a little disinterested on that occasion. Comparing to other Perfume Shop's I have visited, this is typical and is still much better than The Fragrance Shop, who I have had bad experiences with in Liverpool and just a few stores down also in the Manchester Arndale. The store inside is okay, it is pretty much average for any store of its sort and does seem to have a good stock of the main brands, of course it is quite hard to browse without asking a member of staff as near enough everything is behind their till, which is different to the Bradford branch who mainly use this method with some on the back wall too. This store is okay and it is just basically average, average, average, yet I feel only deserves a high two star rating because of immense competition and it should be doing more in a city centre with so many other places to go to win customers such as other branches of TPS, The Fragrance Shop, Boots, House of Fraser, Selfridges, Debenhams - The list goes on so you can get my point!

It didn't help Bodycare and The Body Shop look very similar either. Bodycare is a large shop in The Manchester Arndale centre with great selection, they have a good variety of pain killers, shampoo, soap and lots of other things. The staff seemed polite and for a first time visitor of Bodycare I left happy as they did have a wide range of products for great value. If you are looking for Body products in the Manchester Arndale, I would recommended this large, cheap shop which is located next to WHSmith and near to Thorntons and EE. I have visited this shop a few times now and I have also found a good range of soap products here. UPDATE: After some consideration, including that the queuing system can often leave customers waiting slightly longer, and the design of the store, appearing to get as many products as they can, rather than spacing them out and making it into a modern, cool store, really lowers my opinion of this store, hence I feel a 3 star rating is more deserved.

It was the first store where women of the day felt comfortable and safe shopping alone.... Growing up in the UK my parents would take me there at least once a year (almost every time we visited London actually - so maybe 3-4 times a year. Yes there were upmarket things, and recently we were there and sure there are many expensive brands with absurd prices. But there are also more "normal" goods for sale. Not so much in Manchester - all Louis Vuitton and simile booths all around. A good friend who knows London very well explained that the smaller Selfridges don't have the room for affordable goods and it is all for the very affluent. So come prepared to go home broke or enjoy a window shop! Even the restaurant upstairs seemed very toffee nosed to be honest- not fun :( Review #4 2020

I do think this is a good department store, it is one of the largest and more high-end department stores in the city centre, which is a fading game with Debenhams on Market Street closing and House of Fraser on Deansgate soon to follow. The store looks pretty good and is opposite Marks and Spencer in the Manchester Arndale, sadly Selfridges doesn't have a Food Hall similar to their other branches, at this location, this is a real shame - perhaps that is due to the Basement level of Marks and Spencer (a different business) having a large food section? There are two different San Carlo restaurants in terms of eating or drinking inside, I would have loved to see at least a different brand to add something a little more different, similar to what you see in other department stores such as Harrods etc. They do have some unique experiences here occasionally, Manchester City did bring the Premier League and Carabao Cup trophies here a couple of years ago which was super exciting for me as a big City fan. It can be pretty difficult to navigate at first, but they do have a store plan which is somewhat helpful, the store remains modern and clean. Some of the staff seemed a little snobbish and unhelpful, this was mixed as other staff members seemed great and happy to help. 4*

I find walking into any department store where there are numerous counters of make up and perfume turns me into a kid in a candy store and MAC is like the Willy Wonker of make up. The make up alone is an array of funky colours, sleek packaging and professional looking applicators. Even if you aren't confident when applying make up the tools MAC provide will soon rectify that. This is premium make up so is more expensive than products such as L'Oreal and Bourjois but the products last longer on the skin and in most cases you don't have to use as much meaning they last longer overall. There are several assistants who double up as make up artists working at this concession and you can book in advance for a make over. This will cost you £25 which can be redeemed against any purchases you make on the day. I ended walking out with an extra £65 worth of make up but after Louise performed her magic on me it was well worth it to be able to recreate the effect when I got home. You can be as made up or as natural as you wish, these girls don't just pile on the slap and leave you walking around looking like a transvestite who has just been tangoed. You only have to look at their own make up to realise that the end effect will leave you looking amazing and feeling fabulous. If you have a big night out/special event coming up why not treat yourself, you'll love the results!

I don't usually complain because I worked in retail myself so I know how difficult the job can be but what happened today was just dreadful. I walked into the shop with my mum as she needed a new eyebrow pencil. There was a lady dealing with a customer, which was fine, one was rearranging the brushes behind the counter, after waiting for the appropriate time to ask, I finally got the chance, so I walked up, the lady looked at me, and walked off. At the same time, my mum was also looking to get the attention of the staff, but they were either too busy talking to each other, or simply disappeared and avoided customers. I attempted to get the attention of the third lady when she was free, so I went up and asked for help regarding a brow pencil, she said okay and that was it, she then walked towards her colleague and started taking to her, when I was waiting for help. It took her some time to finally remember I was seeking advice. After a while, she walked up to me and I said that my mum wanted to get a new eyebrow pencil as the one she got last time was a little too dark, so she needed professional advice. She then searched for a pot of pencils, which was hidden behind some ads and handed it to me. No help whatsoever. My mum changed her mind because she felt like she was wasting time, all of this lasted a good 15 minutes. Too much hassle to get some help. The staff didn't seem interested. Don't reccomend the store in Manchester and will not be returning anytime soon.
